About this property
1830s Estate in Historic Downtown Mechanicsburg
Thank you for checking out my place! I am new to VRBO as of July 2024, but have been listed and hosting on "another site" since May 2023 where I have a rating of 4.95/5 stars. If you would like to see reviews on that site please let me know and I will forward you the link.
**Please see additional host's note at end of description about pets.
With construction beginning in the Mid 1830’s “The Old House” has been a keystone of the Mechanicsburg community for nearly 200 years. Beginning in 2012 a renovation and restoration project began to modernize the home’s facilities while maintaining the charm, character and generations of history that make this home special. From the rustic nature of the early finish, to the bespoke mosaic work of a previous owner, the home’s most outstanding features have been maintained and preserved in a manner to celebrate all eras of the home’s existence in equal measure rather than turning it into a “period piece.”
The home itself at over 3000 sqft features 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. There is a first floor master with en suite bathroom, a 2nd Floor Jack and Jill bedroom suite that shares a bathroom, and the final bedroom lofted above the kitchen with a private bathroom and walk in closet. The living area is open and spacious with enough seating for 25 for large family meals and enough space for even large groups to spread out.
The home also includes all the modern conveniences, fully renovated kitchen in 2023 with commercial grade hood and gas range, gas heat and central air, updated plumbing and electrical as well as a floor plan and design as sensible and functional today as it was 200 years ago.
The home sits on just under 2 acres of land with parking for up to 25 cars, a pool and lots of room for fun and outdoor games or to wander and enjoy nature. One of the most amazing things about the property is that while it rests at a busy intersection you will find any traffic noise to be less than you would expect and not far from the road the sounds of cars will become background noise beneath the birds singing and sounds of nature.
The homes central location provides a unique opportunity to have both the feel of a private country setting while maintaining the walkability of a downtown location. Multiple restaurants, bars, groceries, shopping, post office and other conveniences are all located within walking distance.

Hello and thank you so much for your interest, before you go any further I want to give a heads up on a couple things that may be important to you before booking. To many guests these things will be a bonus, but to others it will be a deal breaker so I wanted to make it as clear as possible before you request a reservation...
While you are here there will be 2 cats on the property. One is indoor/outdoor and the other is outdoor only. You will be asked to either care for the cats during your stay or give me permission to make arrangements for the cats' care while you are staying. You should also be aware that myself and my dog, while not in the house, may also be living on the property during your stay. Again, for more details or concerns, please contact me before booking.
