VRBO support amazing, host horrible and rude, left early

I booked this through VRBO as a wedding gift for my son-in-law and his new wife. Because it was booked under my account and therefore showed my name, when I requested the booking I included that in the message and the host accepted the request and confirmed our booking without any further comment or question. I even later included the name and contact information for my son-in-law staying at the property before he ever arrived. After their arrival the host began messaged that I needed to change the reservation to include their names because I was in violation of VRBO policy and seemed to be unaware of my messaging at the time of booking. When I attempted to add them as guests on the website it stated that I was unable to do so because no changes can be made after the day of check-in arrives. (this part is very important). When I told the host, his exact reply was "please call the 800 number so they can tell you how to do it. if I knew I would tell you. thanks". When I called I was again told that yes it was past the date and also told that you are allowed to gift bookings this way and that no policies were violated. They notified the host and he got angry and continued to harass more aggressively. He told me that I need to "teach [my] kids to follow rules" and accused them of being there illegally. VRBO told him three times there were no violations and ultimately they left a day early due to harassment. He declined any partial refund requested by VRBO support team
