About the host
Hosted by Dan Chase
Alicia and Dan met in 2015 while teaching at the same school in Asheville. We married in 2019 and live just up the hill with Dan’s two beautiful daughters and our cat, Luna. Our combined time in Asheville totals over thirty-five years. We have lived in this beautiful cove for many years, and we absolutely love what this special location has to offer. We enjoy gardening, cooking, eating, fermenting, hiking, playing music, and exploring our hometown of Asheville, NC. We love traveling the country and the world, but are always are grateful to return home.
After many years as career educators we both stepped out of the classroom to pursue new dreams. Dan launched a guided hiking company, Asheville Outdoor Experiences, with a mission to help others reclaim their human nature through connections with land, water, and wildlife. He also tutors students in math and college entrance test prep. Alicia is a consulting teacher for The Center for Responsive Schools and trains teachers across the country. Additionally, she supports local students as an executive functioning skills coach.
A side passion project is creating our own hot sauces, pepper jelly, and BBQ sauce from our garden vegetables. Alicia is a photographer who captures the beauty of nature in this area, including the animal photographs and stunning Catawba Falls image displayed in the cabin. Dan enjoys picking up new hobbies and loves learning about fishing, hunting, fermenting, and smoking and preserving food.

Why they chose this property
We live just around the corner from this cabin in Chunns Cove which offers a unique balance. We are nestled in a wooded mountain valley--peaceful and lush with visits from black bears, wild turkeys, bobcats, hawks, owls, and other wildlife. Yet, we are an easy 10-minute drive to downtown Asheville with its restaurants, breweries, shopping, festivals, historical sites, concerts, and more. Travel is also convenient to the Biltmore Estate, Pisgah National Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and area waterfall hikes.
We hope you enjoy your time here as much as we do!

What makes this property unique
The Homestead Hideaway is a true log cabin with pine D-log construction. We built it to be a real mountain getaway where you are tucked away on the valley hillside with a rustic feel but with the comforts of full kitchen with new appliances, high speed wifi, and a Roku-enabled TV.
