A Note from the Owner:
Welcome to The Thainy Home: Where Dreams, History, and Serenity Converge
Nestled in the heart of Midcoast Maine, The Thainy is more than just a tiny house—it's a dream manifested into reality. Picture this: in the midst of a global pandemic, a fantasy was born. A vision of owning a slice of land, crafting a cozy tiny house, and creating a sanctuary for personal and shared retreat began to form. Fast forward three years, and that fantasy has been transformed into a tangible haven. The Thainy stands as a testament to the power of imagination, hard work, and a touch of serendipity.
This isn’t just any tiny house—it’s a labor of love, a collaboration between a daughter’s dreams and a father’s craftsmanship. My dad, a master contractor with over 30 years of experience, poured his heart and soul into this project. Together, we designed a space that has not only met but exceeded our wildest expectations. Every detail, from the intricately sealed exterior panels to the cleverly designed storage solutions hidden within the stairs, showcases his unparalleled skill and dedication.
Inspired by my year spent in Thailand—a place of beauty, warmth, and unforgettable experiences—The Thainy draws its design cues from the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok. This historical home, with its blend of traditional Thai architecture and mysterious history, served as the perfect muse for this tiny house. The textiles that adorn the space come from Ock Tok Pop, a remarkable textile company in Laos that works with indigenous groups to create stunning, authentic pieces. Each element of The Thainy is a piece of a larger story, woven together with threads of history, culture, and personal connection.
But The Thainy is more than just a beautifully crafted house. It’s a place where the land tells its own story. Purchased from the estate of George Purington, this land was once a beloved family camp, complete with a pond, rock garden, and overgrown pathways leading into the woods. The Purington family’s legacy lives on, as they continue to visit and fish in the pond, just as they did in years past. In many ways, I feel like a guest on this land, just as you will during your stay.
This land also holds a deeper history, one that stretches back to a time when it was home to the Wabanaki people. As you walk through the woods, breathe in the fresh air, and take in the natural beauty, remember that we are all guests of this sacred land. Treat it with the respect it deserves, and it will reward you with peace, tranquility, and maybe even a touch of magic.
So, whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or a longer retreat, know that The Thainy is a place where dreams are realized, histories are honored, and the beauty of nature is celebrated. Welcome to your new favorite escape—relax, explore, and enjoy every moment of your stay.
