About this property

Stunning Mojave Desert, CA Home - Recreation, Views, Death Valley & Other Parks

Rocky Top Ranch is our private vacation retreat in the Mojave Desert that must be seen to be believed. This spacious, 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home is perfect for a tranquil and rejuvenating getaway, any time of year. Hike, bike, or explore the Mojave on your off-road vehicles!

Rocky Top is located in the far Western Mojave Desert, near where the desert dramatically transitions to the Sierra Nevada, the tallest mountain range in the US. It is a 2.5 hour drive from Los Angeles, and a 3.5 hour drive from Las Vegas.

Not only are multiple National Parks within striking distance, but Rocky Top Ranch offers seclusion, luxury, and door-step accessibility to hiking, and biking. This historic and beautifully-appointed home is situated on 4 privately-owned acres, within 1000 square miles of pristine, public access, Federal Bureau of Land Management desert preserve. There is plenty of driveway for your off-roading vehicles, transportation or other recreational equipment.

Rocky Top is solar-powered/off-grid, yet just two miles of desert road from the nice-sized town of Ridgecrest, California, and the adjacent China Lake Naval Air Base. Rocky Top Ranch is the best of both worlds - privacy and luxury set within a gorgeous natural desert environment, yet close to a town with major grocery store chains, convenient restaurants and, yes, two Starbucks!

Enjoy spectacular views of 4 mountain ranges, incredible sunsets and unparalleled stargazing in an area rich with ghost towns, museums and antiques. If you get lucky, you might catch Naval aircraft flying test missions and maneuvers over the BLM preserve at eye-level from one of Rocky Top's many verandas. The Sierra Nevadas, Death Valley, Sequoia, Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks are all driving distance from Rocky Top Ranch. Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the Lower 48 States, is only 15 miles away and fully visible from the ranch. You won't find a nicer or more comfortable place to stay for hundreds of miles.

This beautifully updated home is wonderful for a large gathering of friends or family. It has 4 private bedrooms with beds for 12 guests, and 3 full baths. We have turned one large bedroom into a cowboy-themed bunkroom, perfect for kids of all ages! The great-room area features nearly 360-degree views of the mountain ranges, a well-appointed and well-stocked kitchen with every appliance you might need, saloon-style bar seating, a separate breakfast area, and pass-through to a large dining room that seats 8 or more comfortably. The dining room doubles as a conference room for business meetings. Rocky Top Ranch has stunning outdoor eating and socializing areas, as well as multi-tiered verandas perfect for sunset watching and star-gazing. There is a gas barbecue available for guest use.

Three of the spacious bedrooms are located on the first floor, while one of the two primary en suite bedrooms is upstairs. Guests are welcome to use the laundry room that has both washer and dryer, as well as a pet bath. (Well-behaved and well-trained pets are welcome!)

Additionally, Rocky Top Ranch employs an on-site Property Manager who is available nearly 24/7 for your needs. He is there to ensure you're every comfort, and he maintains the solar power and other infrastructure so that you have no stress or worry. However, unless you have questions for him during your stay, you will have complete independence and privacy.

Guests have access to all parts of the main house and surrounding property. (The separate coach house where the Property Manager lives and the garage are off-limits.) Guests may also use the exercise room and basketball hoop, after signing a waiver. Rocky Top Ranch has a ping-pong table, bumper pool table, poker table, and many board games and books for your entertainment. A drop-down, large-scale projection screen is located in the main living area for movie nights, to watch sporting events or to binge watch your favorite series. Our StarLink Wi-Fi assures excellent connectivity.

Although this is our private home, we hope it feels more like a luxury resort. Bed linens, towels, toiletries, hair dryer, kitchen cooking basics, drinking water -- all are provided for your comfort and convenience.

Make memories that will last a lifetime at Rocky Top Ranch!

a MUST stay

This secluded home, surrounded by a picturesque desert landscape was close enough to town but far enough to gaze at the millions of stars we don’t see while at home. The second dining area was stunning for the special 80th birthday celebration we had. So many interior design details that stood out; the wood carved Indian welcoming us when first walking in, the wrap around windows in the living area with the hammered copper bar, all the seating areas, the library nook, the train tracks & wooden bridge and of course the water trough that John filled up for my granddaughter to wade in and cool off. John even gave us a tour, which included the amazing little train. We loved the details he shared. We definitely will be back later this year to enjoy once again.
