About this property

Pine Ridge Cabin House - Cozy Retreat In Woodland Setting With Hiking Trails

The Pine Ridge Cabin House is nestled on the edge of the woods at Old World Garden Farms and offers a great space to get away and enjoy nature. Conveniently located just 2 miles off of I-70, the house features a cozy living room with a large smart tv (free Samsung tv shows/movies and you can log into your Netflix/Youtube/etc. accounts with the provided wifi), fully equipped kitchen with electric stove, microwave and full size refrigerator and a full bathroom with a walk in shower and a large loft bedroom. There is a spacious covered back porch with a gas grill, outdoor seating and dining table and fire pit area, all with views of the wooded ridge below. The extended property includes hiking trails, pavilion and pond that are open to guests to explore. Guests have full access to the Pine Ridge Cabin and can take advantage of the connected hiking trail that starts at the end of the shared driveway. It is an easy/moderate hike, but does have hills/elevations and will require some exertion. Once you exit from the woods you will enter into a large grass meadow. You can turn and go back to the Pine Ridge Cabin via the trails or head up to the gathering barn where you can enjoy the company of other guests and/or the owners. You can also walk back to the cabin via Pisgah Road via the hosts driveway. There is another hiking trail that is located near the pond/pavilion area on the other side of the owners property that you are free to use. There are also several state parks within easy driving distance where you can enjoy lakes, hiking trails and more.
Once you enter into the shared driveway you will pass through stone pillars and gates that will take you right The Pine Ridge Cabin House. Please park on the side of the cabin (2 car maximum). Once you enter through the keypad door you will enter into a cozy space that has everything you need for a quiet and peaceful getaway. There are shades for most windows and doors for your privacy. There are two triangle shaped windows at the top peak of the living room wall that allows for natural light to come into the indoor space. These two windows do not have blinds and there will be natural light from the adjacent wooded area that comes through during daylight hours. The upstairs loft is the main bedroom equipped with a King size bed, wardrobe and desk area. There is no private door to the loft area. There is a second full-size sofa bed in the main living room. Sheets, pillows and blankets are located in the upstairs wardrobe. Before using the sofa bed, roll the cart below the t.v. to the right (behind the table and chairs). You will then be able to pull the sofa bed out without moving the couch. The bathroom is equipped with a small stand up shower, toilet and sink. Towels, washcloths, and hair dryer are supplied. Limited supply of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toilet paper and paper towels are also provided upon arrival. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator with freezer, microwave and oven/stove. It is well equipped with everything you need to make breakfast/lunch/dinner. There is also a gas grill located on the covered back patio area. Please move the grill away from the cabin siding when operating and there are grilling utensils in the drawer next to the refrigerator. An outdoor dining table and various outdoor seating areas are available for your enjoyment. Be sure to take advantage of the fire pit as fire wood is provided free of charge. This beautiful piece of property is nestled back against the woods and does come with the possibility of various outdoor insects and wildlife viewing.

About the host

Hosted by Mary

Host profile image
We are Jim & Mary Competti, and in late 2010, with 4 active teenage children and 2 full-time professional careers, we decided to follow our shared dream of creating a small, self-sufficient farm in the middle of Ohio. Not long after clearing the land, we started a blog to share & document the process along the way. To be honest, it was not our original intention to create a Home, Garden & Recipe website. We began writing about all of our adventures. Like planting our first vegetable garden, raising chickens, building our barn, & all of the other crazy projects we found so exciting to tackle. We shared the successes and the mistakes while building our little farm – and everything in between. And then people from all over the country began to ask us for more information. How did you grow this? How did you build that? And what is your favorite recipe for making salsa? We are still not sure to this day why, but the blog somehow resonated with folks from all over. First with a few followers, then a 100, and now over 15 million monthly viewers, and followers from 220+ countries. It is often said if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. And for us, that statement couldn’t be more true. As the website grew, we began to write & speak about our adventures all around the country. And for two people who love to travel, it made it all the more special. In April of 2016, we published our 1st book, Growing Simple, the story of building the farm. In 2018, we published our second book, Raised Row Gardening, while building 2 more websites, This Is My Garden, and Make Your Meals. It was at that point that we knew we had found what we loved to do, and what we were meant to do. Over the course of a few years, we each retired from our “professional” jobs to follow our passion. We now have a family of six Home, Garden & Cooking websites that allow us the opportunity to share and help others who garden, cook and build and create projects all around their home.

Why they chose this property

In 2021, we decided to move to our current 46 acre location to have more room for test gardens, and a space to host others and events including garden classes, cooking classes and more. You can find us on most days somewhere on the property building, creating, cooking – and most importantly, doing what we love. We enjoy sitting in the various areas that we created at the farm for all of our guest to enjoy. From watching our favorite sports at the barn bar or pavilion area to sitting at the pond looking for fish to pop to the surface, we hope that you will enjoy the space as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy not only the beautiful wooded views but relax at the fire pit which includes free firewood. Want a little exercise? Stroll through the wooded trails and you will most likely see deer. You can also enjoy various outdoor seating areas which include a barn with bar countertop or head across the street to the pond and pavilion where there are more areas to relax or explore another walking trail. This isn't your standard 'home away from home'.
