About this property
Private Detached Cottage ~Near Downtown Phoenix!
Beautiful private guest house in the coveted Willo Historic District! This quiet retreat is the ideal location to walk to St. Joe’s and Barrow Neurological Institute. Well appointed studio provides a hotel quality stay w/a bit of warmth and charm. Relaxing backyard space to enjoy our gorgeous weather. Enjoy one of our bikes to ride around the historic neighborhood just north of downtown. Attend conventions, concerts and sporting events easily. We’re centrally located for Spring Training games!
The guest cottage is about 400 sqft, with a full bathroom, kitchenette, and a large sliding door closet. This part of the property was built much later than our 1939 home and was remodeled not long before we acquired the property. The space has an air purifier with a UV-C light option. Disinfecting and cleaning the space is very important to us to provide a safe space for travelers. It has nice, newer fixtures and a walk in shower. The queen size bed features a 4" dual layer mattress topper (gel memory foam and plush fiber) so it is extremely comfortable. The sheets are 550 thread count or higher as well. The kitchenette has a microwave, small refrigerator, a small oven, a two burner stove top, and coffee maker. There's also plenty of dishes, glasses, pots, pans, and utensils.
The guest cottage is located in the rear of the property. Access is from the front of the property through the side gate at the back of the driveway. The guest house itself is a free standing unit with both a regular door entrance and a sliding glass door. The guest house will be completely yours during your stay. Please feel free to enjoy the entire yard, which features two covered gazebos for dining or working outside.
We (Jamie and Chris) live in the main house on the property. We both work days and nights in the downtown area, but you may see us in the backyard occasionally having a glass of wine, gardening and watering plants, or playing croquet. Since we are long time Phoenix residents and enjoy the culinary, arts, and night life of the downtown and surrounding areas, we are always more than happy to help with advice on travel and activities.
The Willo Historic District is a truly magnificent neighborhood. As one of Phoenix's most beautiful historic neighborhoods, Willo is located just west of Central Avenue between Thomas and McDowell Roads from 1st to 7th Avenues. The Willo is walking or bike riding distance to many museums, restaurants, cafes, and shops of all sorts. It is nestled along the Central Ave corridor just north of downtown Phoenix. You are a short cab or Uber, bike, or lightrail ride to all the downtown amenities, including the home stadiums of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Phoenix Suns. There's also no shortage of live arts and performance theaters and venues, along with amazing bars and restaurants! Talking Stick Arena, Comerica Theater, Stand Up Live, The Van Buren, Valley Bar, Crescent Ballroom, Symphony Hall and Orpheum Theater are all in downtown Phoenix. This is a great central location if you're in town for Spring Training games as well! Make this your home away from home for a night, a week or a month. Great for staycations to explore the downtown area!
Everyone seems to think “Willo" when they think historic Phoenix. Well-kept homes and manicured lawns make up almost a square mile of charming residential neighborhood just north of downtown Phoenix. Tudors, Bungalows, and Spanish Colonials—classic historic examples from the 1920s and 30s with hardwood floors and multi-paned windows– line the streets to welcome admirers in the southern end of the Willo Historic District, and you'll find classic 1940s and early 50s Ranch-style homes as you get closer to Thomas Road. Travel north on 3rd Avenue (one-way street) or south on 5th Avenue (one-way street).
The Willo District is within one mile of the I-10 freeway and 3 miles from I-17 and SR-51. It is a less than a 10 minute drive to Sky Harbor Airport. This is a great location if you are coming into town for baseball games as you can take the light rail directly to the ballpark. The Biltmore area is a 10 min drive and old town Scottsdale is a 15-20 min drive. The Encanto light rail stop is just a half a mile walk from the house adding a unique benefit to this great location. We invite guests to easily take advantage of all of the great restaurants, shops, arts districts, sporting activities, employment centers, etc along the light rail line. This truly is old world charm meets new and modern conveniences. There are also Grid Bike Share stations spread out near the neighborhood and throughout the downtown area. Download the Uber or Lyft apps for extremely easy and affordable transportation while visiting Phoenix. If you don't have Uber, I can provide a code that will discount your first fare.
FYI...we have one very little friendly dog that lives in the main house and will be going out in the backyard a few times per day. Please make sure the gate is always latched.
