About this property

Mt Hope Heritage Home - Step back in time in this unique three bedroom home.

Your Mount Hope adventure begins at this terrific 3-bedroom house. Nestled in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, this charming property offers a cozy retreat for guests. This home is less than 30 minutes away from the New River Gorge National Park, Winterplace Ski Resort and the Scouting High Adventure Center. This historic home has plenty of rooms including a comfortable living room, study, formal dining room, a dine-in kitchen, and a screened-in back porch, so there's plenty of space for everyone to unwind. The house features all the convenient amenities you would expect.

This home is one of the oldest in Mount Hope. The house was built in 1910 as the home and office for the doctor that served the people living in "The Little Town with a Big Welcome". James and Lucy Wilkins, my grandparents, purchased this home in 1940 from the doctor. James was the accountant for the New River Coal Company having moved to the area in 1920s. This home has been restored to its original appearance reflecting the styles of the Victorian / Art Nouveau eras. Come and step back in time in this unique home and enjoy all that Mount Hope and the surrounding areas have to offer when you stay at our place.

Overall fantastic!
No complaints at all. The house is comfortable and has all the amenities anyone would want. The decor is a terrific blend of modern and vintage, very tastefully done. It is too bad that Mt Hope itself has seen better days, but if you are looking for proximity to the national park and other local restaurants and amenities, this location is perfect - you'll be within about 20-30 minutes to most everything. The house is on a fairly busy road, but it was quiet inside, so that was not an issue for us. One suggestion I would have for the owners would be to provide a power strip or two in the bedrooms - between my wife and me, we had four devices to charge (phones, tablets, watches) and there were not enough easily accessible outlets in close proximity to the bed. Overall though, this was a wonderful place to spend a few days!! We would absolutely visit again, with no hesitation!
