About this property
Riverside 4 bedroom House in a stunning village, close to miles of beaches
The house is built against the walls of the village chateaux in one of the 'Most Beautiful Villages in France'.
There is a large airy living room with a traditional open fireplace and several big french windows opening into the garden. A modern fully equipped kitchen, and separate dining room. Four bedrooms, 2 with queen sized beds, the third with two single beds, and forth with full sized bunk beds. There are two bathrooms, plus a separate WC. The house stocked with toys, games, books, films on CD and disk (in English). The staircase is steep hence may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns.
On the patio there is a sheltered arbour with a large table and chairs for meals outside. There is a sheltered garden that looks out over a river and oyster beds – great for bbq’s or catching crabs in the river. Parking in the driveway for at least 2 cars.
Walk to loads of restaurants (there are currently about 12 in the village), a bar, patisserie, Oyster coop, plus shops & galleries. The gate opens into the village port which is the berth for visiting sailing boats. The port is a popular crabbing location and interesting swimming area when the tide is up on hot days!. The multiple river channels around the village make perfect fishing spots and that are home to a wealth of bird life.
Mornac-Sur-Seudre is a gorgeous little port with houses with traditional blue shuttered windows and narrow streets lined in the summer with colourful Holly hocks. For oyster lovers - the village is the center of the famous Charente 'Claire' Oyster region. The house overlooks the river Seudre, with the village on a peninsula on the edge of the Foret de la Coubre national park, the Isle D'Oleron at the tip and kilometers of beaches along the southern flank.
Beaches: There are miles of sand beaches a few minutes drive from the house including sinking World War 2 bunkers. The sheltered town beaches in and around Royan and St. Palais are really lively lined with bars and restaurants. At the end of the peninsula are the broad wild beaches of the Cote Sauvage backed by large sand dunes which are more exposed and popular with surfers,.
Sports: There’s huge choice of water sports just a few minutes away along the coast, plus a golf course, and riding stables. The beach/port in Royan has a sailing club for children and adults, as well as deep sea fishing charters; surf schools, wind surfing, etc. There is a local kayaking center a short walk from the house with boats for rent to explore the local river channels. For those into extreme sports, there’s a very popular spot for kite surfing, plus wide beaches for land yachts. For cyclist, the area has miles forest trails through the national forest (Foret de La Coubre).
Local sites: try the Roman ruins in the Saintes and St Jean Angley, or a boat trip to the Island Forts off the I'sle d'Oleron. La Rochelle is impressive with its world class Aquarium, Naval museum and wonderful old town. Nearby Cognac frequently hosts events such as Jazz festivals.
Of course there are the Bordeaux vineyards on your doorstep for a spot of wine tasting. It is also worth trying a glass of the local 'Pineau de Charente', a regional fortified wine. For young families, a day trip to the “Puy du Fou” theme park is a must.
