Great location, some issues.
It was a great location and accurate description. Because the house is so remote my cell phone had no signal (which I have no issue with). My problem was the WiFi password was not listed in the welcome booklet… so I actually had to drive about 2 miles back the way I came (thank goodness not to many turns - no maps) so I could get enough of a signal to log into the VRBO app to get the password from that. (No phone signal so I couldn’t call the owners) That was very frustrating. Note: all 3 chairs and sofa are NOT comfortable… chair seats are broken and sofa had a box spring type seat that you feel the springs and box. They all look great… but have issue sitting in for any amount of time.

Great Location | Decent Home
The location is beautiful - it definitely makes me want to visit the area again. Communication and easy check in were 5 stars. Location of seeing the peaceful lake just steps from the cabin was 5 stars. Gave a couple of 3 stars due to uncomfortable furniture - this is not a place to stay in and cozy up for multiple days. Luckily, we had a lot of out and about plans; the living room had very uncomfortable chairs and couch. There was also a lot of dust under furniture (we dropped something and it rolled under the couch) & around vents/ceiling. Compared to other rentals we've stayed in, it just didn't feel as clean as it could be with more attention. Overall, the beauty of the land draws you in and I would consider staying again just for that. If there was more comfortable furniture and not as much dust, this would definitely be a 5 star, go-to U.P. rental.

Beautiful Lake Superior Shore Home
Overall, we were very happy with the property. It was extremely clean, beautifully decorated, and the location was unbeatable. The only drawback that we would mention is that the queen sized bed desparately needs a new mattress. My husband and I ended up having to sleep in separate beds to avoid rolling into each other because of the dip in the center.

Nice Getaway!
This little cabin was the perfect little getaway after a busy season for my husband and I. It was right on the lake and a great distance from town - just about 10 minutes away. Super cute, clean, and just what it looks like in the pictures. They have a few different cabins under this management in this same location so we'd love to come back and check out their other properties, too! Definitely recommend. Thanks for a great stay!

Anniversary Celebration
Enjoyed a great week with previous neighbors, both couples celebrating June anniversaries. Location is great to access all of Keweenaw Peninsula. Ate breakfast and dinner in. Kitchen and grill were very functional. Had unusual heat for June, and early onset of biting flies and mosquitoes. Cottage windows were lacking some screens and kitchen screen door needs work to keep the bugs out. Hopefully more attention will be given to this before the brunt of summer arrives. At the same time, windows all need washing. Hard to enjoy the amazing views through cloudy windows. (FYI, did not ask for these things to be done during our stay). Would stay here again. :)

A lovely getaway
We loved this quiet getaway with water access. Though situated near other rentals, we felt we had plenty of privacy and space to explore. The water provides great sunsets. House is adequately supplied and you can get anything you need in nearby Calumet. We will be back!

Beautiful lake view stay
Very enjoyable stay. Small, cute two bedroom cottage with very clean, fresh linen and furniture. Bed and pillows in master bedroom very comfortable, no complaints from guests in bedroom with two double beds. Plenty of room around the kitchen table for games, nice assortment of games available to play. As noted in other reviews, two small cabins are directly in front of this cabin, obstructing clear lake view (we were aware of this prior to arrival), but lake view is still beautiful and very easy access to Lake Superior. Yooperlite flashlight available in cabin. We purchased an additional flashlight prior to arrival - to have 2 lights available for 4 adults. Worth purchasing a better quality light if you plan on doing some rock hunting as we did. We essentially used our light only. Property manager provided some small treats like oatmeal, snacks and coffee. Otherwise some basic cooking supplies in cabin. Town is very close and has everything available you may need. Overall, great stay with plenty of roads and shoreline for long walks. Our dog was very eager to explore the property. We did have a fire on the beach, first bundle of firewood is free, then $5 for each additional. We were unable to find the bundles on the property or lighters/matches, but there is plenty of drift wood on the beach to use. We did not contact the property manager for assistance as did not want to bother him. He was very responsive, helpful and friendly. There is also a sauna available that we did not use. Overall great stay, great location and would stay again!

Great Stay
Really nice little cottage just a few feet from the Lake Superior shoreline. The beds and furniture was very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies and equipment. Check in was easy, even arriving after midnight and communication with the owner was easy. Good high speed internet and television. Five stars for this stay, thank you.

If you are searching for a magical place in the UP, this is the place for you. It's nestled along the coastline with a few private beach areas to explore, and the owners thoughtfully decorated their cottage with love. The welcome snacks and almanac made us feel very welcome upon arriving at a warm & toasty cabin from our long drive. Our dog Butterscotch loved every minute! Thank you for a great stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Chart House and definitely plan to return to Northshore Cottages! The house is decorated beautifully and the amenities were so thoughtful and high quality. We really appreciated the bowl of snacks (and even a little bottle of hand-sanitizer) on the kitchen table. The inclusion of a UV flashlight for hunting Yooperlite was icing on the cake for these rockhounds. VERY neat! We were lucky enough to snag two pieces of Yooperlite on our last night there, as well as several other great finds. The towels and sheets are VERY clean and very high quality. I was amazed at how clean the stove and oven were (not always the case in rental houses!) and the thoughtful way that everything was presented and set up. It was wonderful! The only couple of things to note (though this would certainly not deter us from returning) is that the windows could use new screens and the house new screen doors with a tighter fit. We had issues with bugs getting in the house at night. Bugs don't bother us outside, or even the odd bug inside when you are staying so close to nature, but getting bitten by mosquitoes while you sleep every single night kinda sucks. I smooshed several inside the house in the morning that had recently eaten their fill of us and woke up more than once to one buzzing around my face. The last thing is just that the kitchen was lacking some basic stuff like a sheet pan and a tea kettle. The tea kettle wasn't a big deal b/c we just warmed up water in the microwave for tea, but the sheet pan was tricky b/c we cooked most of our meals at the house (the joys of vacationing in a pandemic) and the sheet pan was something we needed for a few things we'd planned to cook during our stay. We've rented a lot of houses and they typically have all the basic kitchen tools, so this kitchen felt a bit light on necessities. But there were also some things you don't always get, like a slow cooker! We didn't use it, but I thought it was cool that it was there. In any case, we absolutely plan to be back. The feedback about the screens and pots and pans is really only to set expectations. Don't let it deter you from visiting this gem! We plan to become regulars!

Loved this place, we shall return. 😊
The cottage we stayed in was just what we wanted very cozy, the view of the lake was remarkable also great for those of us who are rock collectors. Short distance from the town of Calumet where you can buy your groceries or stay in town for a bite to eat, absolutely loved the cottage we stayed in. Seriously can't wait to return.... 😉 Thanks

Perfect Getaway
The cottage was exactly as described. It is in the perfect location just outside of Calumet on a long stretch of Lake Superior. The cottage itself is not directly beachfront; however, it has a beautiful view of Lake Superior and it is close enough where we could hear the waves crashing along the shoreline. The shoreline was quiet and private and the perfect combination of beach and incredible rocks. The owner, Philip, is very responsive, genuine, and friendly. We loved our stay and cannot wait to return.

About the host

Hosted by Philip Roberts

Host profile image
Hello, My name is Philip Roberts. My grandparents purchased this property in 1927 as a residence where they had a small farm and ran the C&H Mining Co. Waterworks. Year- round my grandmother enjoyed sharing this special place with the most attentive hospitality and today we strive to meet that standard. While there have been some changes over the years, we like to think that time has somewhat stood still. The serene peacefulness of this little private beach location is unparalleled here on the Keweenaw Peninsula. Enjoy the most restful sleep, breath the cleanest air, and swim in the cleanest most refreshing body of freshwater.

Why they chose this property

The Roberts family has enjoyed this beach property for three generations. We completely remodeled the cottage in 2010-11 to upgrade and conform to travelers needs and preferences. We love to share this special place with visitors from all corners of the world.

What makes this property unique

Running alongside this cottage is a small babbling brook, otherwise known as Brewery Creek, that opens up to the lake on the beach. On the beach you can enjoy a camp fire under the stars or even catch the northern lights, swim the Great Lake Superior, hunt the perfect rock or agate, fish till the sun goes down, barbecue on the charcoal grill and picnic at the picnic table, or take a nature walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the beach and forest. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or snow-shoe right out your front door.
