Arrived to stay with my wife and was not able to enter our rental. After about 15 minutes of trying to enter the rental and contact a host or customer service, we were greeted by the home owners who told us this is NOT our rental, and that somebody is else was currently staying there at the rental.
I had received confirmation emails from VRBO and paid for the rental. The situation was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. The host family was nice, although I felt as if I had invaded on somebodies space and could have put myself or others in danger had had I actually entered the rental with others inside.
The hosts were nice at pointed me to a hotel to find a stay as our plans needed to pivot quickly. This whole experience was odd and left me with a bad feeling about the check in process. Make sure to reach out with the host and confirm your rental, don’t trust a payment and a confirmation number.
