About this property
Cozy cabin on Private Lake in fabulous Amherst. Near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
With 63 acres to explore, you will have plenty to do while enjoying your stay. Spend your evening enjoying the solitude on the dock with solar lighting. Spend the day hiking the trails or exploring the property. Or if it is hot outside, perhaps a swim in the three-acre lake (with a slide into the water) or fishing for bass, bluegill, perch or catfish are more to your liking. A pleasurable adventure is in your future.
Our tiny house is 128 sq ft and has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation by the lake. A large full-size bed with a preformed mattress, and a twin bed with a preformed mattress on the bunk above. The kitchen has a small refrigerator, a coffee pot and a two-burner stove. Dishes, pans and utensils are provided so that you may cook the farm fresh eggs from our free-range chickens that you harvest each morning. Safe drinkable well water is provided in the tiny house, and more is available upon request. A compostable toilet is also provided. There is a table and chairs inside to enjoy your meals if the weather is not cooperating. But if the sun is shining, you may want to use the bistro table on the deck, or the seats surrounding the firepit (with cook top) overlooking the lake. There is also a barbecue grill outside. Around back, there is an outdoor heated shower to wash off the cares of the day. If streaming is your pleasure, the cabin has internet access for work or play.
The lake is easily accessible. The dock is lit in the evening so that you can enjoy the peace and quiet and listen to the birds and frogs. Or use the hammock to take a quick nap in the shade. Kayaks, inflatables and life jackets are available to use. The lake is also stocked with bass and bluegill for your fishing pleasure (however, we do ask you to catch and release).
All of the above-mentioned space is available to guests and there are 63 acres of mountain trails that you are welcome to explore at your own risk. We also live on the property, so the outside environments are shared. If you do go up the mountain, we advise you to take ample supplies and water, suitable clothing for your comfort and a compass as the weather can be changeable and you can easily get turned around. It might also behoove you to let us know of your plans, just in case. Please ask for directions to the trails.
If you want to go exploring, we are only 32 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway... and there are numerous wineries, breweries and orchards in the area. Liberty University is only 15 miles away.
Go exploring or stay and enjoy the beauty and solitude of the private lake.... It is your choice... either way, we know you will enjoy your stay at our cabin on the lake.
There is a one-and-a-half-mile gravel road leading to our house. Once here, you will have the option of parking in our paved driveway and walking the 50 yards to the cabin (we can help get your gear to the cabin) or driving down a steep dirt road to park near the cabin. This is normally fine if you have a 4-wheel drive...unless there has been a recent rain which makes the road very slick.
We are always looking at ways to improve what we offer, so please feel free to take notes. We would love to provide you with the best possible experience and look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful space.
