Absolute gem!
Thoughtfully designed, beautifully decorated, tranquil setting. From the cozy fireplace, to the hot tub and fresh baked scones upon arrival, the hosts took care and attention to details to make a really wonderful stay. They were easy to work with and super responsive. We can't wait to return!

Everything you need and nothing you don't
A quaint yurt set about 300 feet from another yurt that presumably the owners reside in. It has a microwave, stove, toaster, grill, and double shower head shower! The bed was lovely as was the fireplace. We also enjoyed the hot tub and the propane heater for cold nights. Perfect for two adults looking to relax. Lots of local things to do such as music bingo and trivia at the local breweries.

Enjoyed our stay here. The yurt is beautifully decorated and loved watching the birds. Didn’t feel as private as I thought it would, but overall a very nice get away.

Peaceful perfection
We were looking to unplug and unwind after a hectic season of life and this was perfect. The yurt was amazing! The Christmas décor along with gas fireplace added so much to the peaceful vibe we were looking for. The second you walk in you felt all the stresses of life fade away. We loved the fresh baked scones and the selection of teas and hot cocoa as well as the live plants. We hiked the path through the beautiful woods and enjoyed all the signs of the natural world. The host had all the bases covered for an amazing getaway. We will definitely be back!

Fantastic getaway
Such a great experience! The yurt has all the creature comforts we were looking for plus a ton of charm and coziness. The fireplace kept us warm inside while the hot tub took all of the chill from the outside. The bed was very comfortable and the view out the top past the indoor plants connected us with the pines and stars. The Christmas decorations—both inside and out—were such a nice touch of home that we immediately felt welcomed. The homemade scones were delicious! Add to all this the convenience of a large city within ten minutes for groceries, goods, and restaurants. Easily one of our best vacation stays within the state.

Yurt stay
This was a great weekend getaway for younger parents that needed a good break from kiddos. We loved the design of the property, only thing was having some more bush/fence privacy. It was great getting to soak in the hot tub with the cold fall air and the occasional drizzle of rain. There’s a great trail to walk on and explore the property and the neighborhood. We enjoyed the fire pit and all the nature there was to be in for the weekend!

This was the perfect place to stay for my best friend and I for a girls weekend. Gorgeous fall colors and the cutest yurt!! Very clean, everything you could need supplied there. Hot tub to relax in and then a bonfire to sit and warm up next to. We just marveled at how cute it all was the entire time. Definitely will book again in the future!!

I was ecstatic to find this property. My husband and I found ourselves in the Grand Rapids area for our honeymoon several years ago. We decided to re-visit the area and found this beautiful yurt property. Our stay was so relaxing and enjoyable - from staring at the stars from the hot tub, a nice stroll through the trails on the property, and still close enough for fishing, shopping and dining. We will we back! And thank you for having us :)

Beautiful retreat in the trees.
David communicated great before during and after my stay. The yurt was cozy, clean, and very comfortable. The bed was heaven and watching the stars through the skylight was amazing. This is the perfect space for a solo or couple. The hot tub was a treat after long days out and about. The outdoor space is breathtaking with plenty of seating to take it all in. My only regret is not getting a fire in, but fire danger was high. Do yourself a favor and book here, I know I will next time I'm in town. Thanks for a great stay, this place is a hidden gem!

Peaceful Yurt
Thank you for sharing your wonderful wooded sanctuary. This was our first yurt experience and it surpassed every photo and video on your Facebook page. It was a much needed weekend away for my husband and I and even though we were both born and raised less than 5 miles from the Yurt it was a perfect place to recharge. We both noticed all the little "extras" that the hosts thought of and provided and I can honestly say there wasn't a single thing that would have made it more welcoming or comfortable experience. Thanks again, we'll be back!!

You won't want to leave!
Now I want a great big skylight above my bed at home! What a delightful stay and probably my favorite vacation rental ever. Maybe it was the hot tub under the stars. Maybe it was the huge skylight right above the bed. Maybe it was the big nine-point buck that wandered so closely by our window in the morning. Maybe it was the meadow and woods that the yurt overlooks. Maybe it was the private walking path through the large wooded property. Maybe it was the tasteful decorations and immaculate cleanliness. Probably it's all those things together that added up to our lovely relaxing stay. Yes, this is a "yurt" style building, with a big high timber ceiling and a large skylight, but it's more of a deluxe year-round cabin than the soft-sided glamping tent I usually think of when I hear "yurt". It's got solid insulated walls, heat and air conditioning, a large outdoor paved sitting area, and everything you need for cooking (stove but no oven). One caution. This is really a rental for two people at most. There's a king bed and comfy seating for two, but no couch or hide-a-bed for kids or a third or fourth person. My wife and I highly recommend this VRBO. You won't be disappointed.

Refreshing peaceful stay
Beverly and David have put great thought and care into this beautiful property. They thought of everything. The property sits nestled in trees and is easy to locate. Parking is adequate with a wagon to transport your luggage and food from your car to the property. Lighted walkway at night making the journey easy to see. Grill available that works great! In the kitchen, a beautiful cooktop, fridge, dishwasher, as well as pots and pans, utensils, plates and cups and everything you think you will need. Provided different spices. We were greeted with home-cooked blueberry scones. Basket, full of teas, popcorn, hot chocolate. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful s’mores bucket with graham crackers, marshmallows, and Hershey bars, as well as the poker to cook the s’mores. The fire pit was very lovely with comfortable chairs. They also took such great care and time and providing a great experience to be able to make a fire, especially for this city girl! They had a fire pit, bark pieces, kindling, and dry wood provided and long stemmed lighter. Also had close by hose to extinguish appropriately after use. Set by the yurt is a beautiful hot tub. We have stayed at many VRBO’s and this hot tub was top-notch. The temperature was perfect. Inside was a beautiful king size bed. The space was utilized very well. The bathroom had dual shower heads and was well crafted. We highly recommend this beautiful property as you will not be disappointed!

About the host

David and I have been happily married for 36 years! We raised our three children here in Grand Rapids before moving away to further our careers in nursing. Two years ago, we purchased the 10-acre piece of property on Jess Harry Road and moved back to Grand Rapids. We fell in love with the trees!
We built our first Yurt as a temporary situation but discovered that we liked our circular home with its window to the sky! We’re able to experience a closeness to nature that we’ve never had before. The sound of the rain on the roof is amazing! Looking through the dome as clouds drift by during the day and seeing the stars twinkle at night is a privilege that few people know. We’ve found a sense of peace and quiet in our tiny house as outside noises seem to bounce around its orbit. If it were not for our beloved Cocker Spaniels, Buddy & Holly, we would not know when visitors have arrived! Initially, friends & family worried about how we would fair in the yurt during the long cold MN winters. The gas fireplace keeps the house warm and cozy. The snow magically slides off the roof. Watching the snowflakes float outside the windows is mesmerizing! You truly feel like you are living in a snow globe! It’s lovely!

Why they chose this property

Throughout our relationship, we have enjoyed searching for and visiting unique vacation getaways; cabins, bed and breakfasts, a Creamery turned into a hotel! As we are entering our retirement years, we thought what fun it would be to create such a place ourselves and the idea for La Prairie Yurts was born!

What makes this property unique

“The Robins Nest” is the second of what we hope will be three if not four Yurts on the property. Visitors will quickly understand how it got its name. Robin along with other bird species are numerous. Our guests will also spot deer, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks. We sometimes hear the distant cries of coyotes and were visited by a couple of little black bears this past Spring. It’s the perfect retreat for folks that want to experience being at one with nature and yet so close to the city of Grand Rapids. Just ten minutes away are shops, restaurants, breweries, arts and entertainment, lakes, trails and historic sites. We love Grand Rapids, and we love our Yurts!
