Isolated Creekside Knotty Pine 1930s Lodge on 575 Acre Forest Preserve

Rates vary by date, please click on rate tab above for complete information
Charming historic four bedroom lodge on 575 private forest preserve overlooking a breathtaking naturally-reproducing trout stream with waterfalls cascading through a thickly forested glen with a cool soothing swimming hole and a gorgeous mountain view. The view of the stream from the lodge looks like a Hollywood movie set. Only 75 miles from Manhattan, 125 from Philadelphia.

Exceptionally private, half-mile long driveway (gated); for 75 years was a private hunting club but now is maintained as the owner's exclusive retreat. Privacy and discretion assured; specialized and experienced in hospitality for high-profile clientele requiring exceptional service. Vintage furniture in knotty pine 1930s lodge, all natural materials (no sheetrock) with cathedral ceiling, stone wood-burning fireplace, furnished screened porch, large deck, picnic table set on slate patio and interesting artwork.

Large great room/dining area, newly remodeled bathroom and kitchen. Fully stocked tableware, pots and pans, spices, etc.

Four (4) Bedrooms, all with queen size beds, the master bdrm and bdrm # 1 has a sink and mirror in room. TV/DVD player in master bedroom; wireless internet access and cable TV.

Tremendous privacy, but with nearby caretaker. Two additional properties on Dwarfskill Preserve are also available for rental. The cottage (vrbo#: 431732) has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4; The cabin (vrbo#: 445407) is a 1 room cabin and sleeps 2. Inquire about special pricing for all three together.

This building is one of three rental properties at the Dwarfskill Preserve, which include a 4 BR Lodge, 2BR Cottage and 1Rm Cabin. The buildings are spaced around a large circle at the end of a 1/2 mile driveway. The Lodge faces the Dwarfskill Creek and its screen porch and deck cannot be seen from the other two buildings; the Cottage faces a meadow, similarly private. The Cabin sits between the other two buildings, at the beginning of the trail to the waterfall on the 575 acre property. The only other habitable structure on the property is the Caretaker's Barn, halfway up the driveway, which is not available for short-term rental.

Guides for fishing, hiking or tours, or private catering, massage and spa services, available by special arrangement.

The cabin is located only 6 miles from Milford, PA, which Atlantic Magazine once called 'the prettiest county seat in America'; 3/4 of the village is in a National Historic District featuring galleries, antiques, coffee shops, boutiques and specialty shopping.

Heritage attractions include Grey Towers (Richard Morris Hunt-designed 19th c. stone mansion), The Columns Museum (featuring the blood-stained Lincoln flag, which cushioned the President's head moments after he was shot) athree restaurants, patisserie, day spa, vintage menu collection and permanent exhibit of Hudson River School paintings. The day spa, Badea & Soul, offers massages, facials and body scrubs/wraps in the comfort of your lodge rental, by pre-arranged appointment.

Milford is also adjacent to the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Park and the federally-protected Upper Delaware Wild & Scenic River offering a wide array of river activities, including tubing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, eagle-watching and more.

An unforgettable getaway amongst the whispering pines

This was my family's third stay in The Lodge. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in a most beautiful setting, this is the place! From the sounds of the rushing falls below, to the whispering pines that stand as guardians round the historic cabins, this place offers a quiet place of peace and rest, away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. It truly is like stepping back into another place and time. The highlight of the historic lodge is the beautiful, rustic fireplace which brings old fashioned warmth and cheer on a cold, winter's day. The owner/caretaker was extremely helpful and he responded very promptly to all my emails. We are very thankful to have disovered such a gem of a place and we hope to be back again and again!

Amazing place to disconnect and reconnect with family.

What a beautiful location to reconnect with my family this past stay. The property is very rustic which is exactly what we were looking for. Walking outside the lodge and hearing the water running was so relaxing. My family hiked up and down the river every day even when it rained. We fished, we swam, we explored the waterfalls. The property really is magical with moss beds and mushrooms and endless beauty. We brought mountain bikes, which my kids enjoyed riding up and down the road and a few of the trails. My dogs were so depressed when we got home, they loved, going out and roaming the property and the free space on our hikes. We happen to visit during the end of a meteor shower, and having access to open sky with limited light pollution was breathtaking, lots of wildlife to observe and nature to take in. Before we even left, my kids asked if we can book it again for next year.

Beautiful property

We stayed in the lodge w 8 people. There was 2-3 feet of snow on the ground. We brought snowshoes, sleds, and cross country skis. There was too much snow for the skis. We were able to snowshoe around and see waterfalls, beautiful river spots and sled once the snow was packed. We cooked our meals. Some tools for cooking were missing like a whisk and there are some good cooking staples but no sugar. We loved the time to play games and sit by the fire enjoying the fruits of our labor in the kitchen. Would definitely return. Beds were very comfortable and there was a much enjoyed shower w fresh towels. The view of river and especially the sound of the river was beautiful.

Amazing property which easily can become the beginning of many more trips!

We stayed at Dwarveskill back in September 2020 and this review is long overdue. Unreal experience on a pristine property. You truly feel immersed in wilderness and have an amazing swimming hole within arms length. I cannot begin to explain the morning experience as I sat on the deck sipping my morning coffee as the running stream provided music to my ears. 10/10 and highly recommend.

The most magical place you could possibly imagine

I can't express how truly beautiful and this place is. This was my second time staying at the property. I really just don't know where you'd find anything comparable to this place. My friends and I rented all 3 cabins and had one of the greatest weekends we could hope for. Campfires and acoustic jams all night. Our 5 dogs roamed free all weekend long. Incredibly beautiful waterfalls. "Privacy and discretion assured" is right on. Think of it as really, really nice glamping. Some of my friends complained about the beds being less than top-tier, but - other than that - it really is something special. Also - we were amazed to learn that the owner of this property is the mayor of the town, and has a documentary about him on Prime. He is a true hero and fighter for what is good in the world. I plan on coming back at least once, if not twice a year. Sean/Xavier - if you're reading this - every one of us is rooting for you both now and into the future. Thank you for having us, and keep fighting the good fight!

I had high expectations, and they were blown away. This property is so gorgeous and private, pictures cannot do it justice. Quiet forest, clean air, and cascading waterfalls along a scenic hike. We’ll be back!

Just What Was Needed

Us and several of our friends rented the lodge. We had another couple rent the 1bed cottage. We deemed that 1 bath wouldnt be enough to have 4 couples in the lodge, so this worked out great! Frok the moment you arrive, you relax and feel like a kid at camp. Between the waterfall, hiking, swim hole, fire pit, and screened in porch this place was so refreshing. While they were clearly working on it, there were a lot of down trees that need to be removed from the water. My only complaint is that the bed in the master wasnt comfortable and was super loud and springy...the slightest movement made so much noise. None of our friends complained so maybe was isolated to the master, but did make it a little difficult to sleep as well as I would have liked.

Exactly what we were looking for

I told a lot of my friends on Facebook about this place. As I mentioned there, we were looking for a getaway escape to a nice clean cabin in the mountains that provides a chance to feel closer to nature while still retaining a satisfactory degree of comfort. More specifically, we were also seeking a place with a running creek in the backyard that allowed for swimming. This provided exactly that experience. The cabin was very clean and spacious enough for a family of four. The area was isolated yet close enough to town so that we could make short trips to pick up essentials. The creek was great, we went swimming several times while we were there, and it is close enough to hear while hanging out on the back porch. There are even lights along the creek that you can control from the cabin if you want to turn them on at night. We saw a rabbit, chipmunks, a harmless garter snake (in the woods, not the cabin, haha), butterflies, an eagle. So if you are looking for this kind of experience, this is the place for you.

An absolute gem

The listing does not do this place any justice. It is something straight out of a postcard into real life. The sound of the creek in the back is soothing. The water hole was a hit with the kids. I saw some people commenting on the downed trees but that was not an issue at all. It was easy to enjoy swimming around. The area and the land is clean and beautiful. Everyone was very helpful with giving us information on trails and the waterfalls and fishing. We are all amateurs with fishing but caught 3 trout that were big enough to eat and several other fish we threw back because they were too small. But it was enjoyable because it was active the entire time we fished. Everything about this place is 5 stars.

Hundreds of acres of Northeast Wilderness, minutes from Milford

We stayed in the 4 bedroom lodge in early August. Nothing Do you remember when you were a kid in the summer, and your mom gave you some breakfast, handed you a sandwich for lunch, and told you to play outside until dinner? If you have kids from age 8 to 18 or so, you can totally pull that off here. Just acres and acres of wilderness and creeks to explore. The area just downriver from the cabins has very little undergrowth, just a lot of pine needles and leaves, and served as the 40 acre or so play area for our kids. The three cabins sit on a hill about 30 yards from the river down a steepish hill. The river is dammed up there with a nice 8 foot waterfall on each side of an extremely refreshing swimming hole. The water is very cool. There is another 20 foot waterfall about 100 yards downriver. Neat place to hang out for a picnic. The rest of the stream is mostly small falls and ankle deep pools. Fun to explore, and very pretty land. About the 4 bedroom lodge: 1) The kitchen is small, but very well equipped. Lots of pots / pans / coffee / spices, etc. If you get warm, don't miss the exhaust fan above the sink. Behind that cast iron door is a great fan to keep the kitchen cooler. 2) The main room is very spacious, and comfortably holds 8 people to hang out, eat, play games, etc. 3) Only one bathroom, so you have to plan ahead for showers with 8 people. However, two bedrooms have a sink for brushing teeth / etc. 4) The porch is lovely. While my kids were off in the woods, I spent almost all my time on that porch reading, relaxing, and listening to the waterfall below. 5) The bed linens were clean, fresh, high quality, great wool blankets to keep warm, lots of towels for the shower and the river. Finally, staff / owner were fantastic. Helpful, friendly, cheerful. Overall, this place was excellent for us. When we booked, we had planned to go into Milford to explore; it's a short hop, less than a 10 minute drive, so this would be a good base for a weekend exploring Milford. But, we fell in love with the property, we wound up hiking and playing in the brook all day during our 5 day trip. If you have a relatively outdoorsy family that likes to hike / explore / swim, this place is amazing. One very small negative: a lot of trees are still down in the stream due to the big winter storm. It didn't really hinder any activities or access to any of the property, but the place likely will look better after those trees are gone.

Great, large cabin with a rustic feel

The property is pretty amazing. The stream and several waterfalls are nature at her best. The fallen trees from the recent storm have hit this entire area hard, and the trees down along the stream create a little concern, but the young kids had an absolute blast swimming across the swimming hole and venturing up the small falls at the bottom of the hill. hours of fun every day. the property is a blast for walking, hiking and the dogs loved it. You feel much further away from civilization than you actually are. the town of Milford is a lot of fun for a day trip or 2. Great history, great food and the Italian deli had an amazing choice of hand made foods. The cabin is rustic, but clean and spacious. the deck overlooking down the hill to the streams is big and a great place to sit and relax. Overall, this is a really laid back, large, clean cabin that sleeps a large family, with pets, easily. I think we will be back!!

Christmas at Dwarfskill Preserve

Dwarfskill Preserve is a special place where all of nature's bounties seem to meet bringing beauty and serenity to all who visit for a time. Our family do to unusual circumstances came to spend Christmas at the Preserve this year and it was a Christmas that will long be remembered by friends and family who came to visit or to stay for awhile. We arrived prepared but really much that we needed was there already anticipated for us. We had large family dinners, sat with stories and tea by the fire in the Lodge, and hiked to the falls by the swimming hole and then to the larger falls beyond. On one rainy day we took a short ride to the charming town of Milford visiting shops and stopping for coffee and tea at the Fauchere Patisserie. The town was beautifully decorated for the holidays! Whether it is the sound of rushing water that fills the woods greeting you when you arrive or the generous hospitality of Sean and Cindy (and Alfie) there is a prevailing sense as you walk its grounds that the Preserve is someplace rare and wonderful.

Gorgeous relaxation

Three generations of my family stayed at the lodge and it was delight. Everything was described, including the secluded, beautiful surroundings and comfortable, stocked cabin. We went for a cold swim in the creek, caught some little fish, cooked out on the grill, and the sound of rushing water lulled us to sleep. We never even left the property after the first night, even though our intentions were to see the sights.

Beautiful cabins and stunning scenery

Recently stayed in two of the cabins on the Dwarfskill Preserve property, and my friends and I (11 early-thirty-somethings) had an amazing time. The cabins were clean and spacious, with well-equipped kitchens and grill for cooking out, comfy beds, sinks in a couple of the bedrooms, and plenty of space for us to dine in and lounge around. The property is stunning—we took full advantage of the river and swimming hole, with a quick walk down to a nice-sized waterfall. The cabins were convenient enough for quick runs to town, and the owner met up with us initially to guide us out to the property. I wish I lived on the East Coast—would definitely come back for many more stays!

Great weekend getaway

We loved our stay at the lodge for a long 4th of July weekend. The lodge and other buildings are on a large and beautiful forested property with a creek winding through. It's a gorgeous setting to explore and relax in. The lodge itself is very comfortable, and has a great propane grill for outdoor meals. The creek is beautiful and close to the lodge. Great for a cool swim near the dam. The waterfall a bit farther down is well worth the short walk too. Sean was very responsive and accommodating. We'd love to come back sometime!

Hunting Cabin

Loved our stay. We took our 4 kids and enjoyed the remote privacy of the space. We hiked down the hill to the creek and enjoyed chucking rocks and snapping photos. The kitchen was well stocked with knives, pots, baking sheets, wine glasses, plates, platters, everything. The fireplace is quite shallow so don't plan to keep a roaring fire going all day, but the heat is GREAT and the windows are tight, so it's easy to control the temps inside. There are 4 bedrooms each with full or queen bed. 2 of them have their own sink, which spreads the one-bathroom issue out and no one notices it at all. Lastly, the owner Sean is responsive and generous. He gave suggestions about where to eat, what to do, and how to enjoy the place to its fullest. Really, it's a lovely cabin.

Lovely property

W stayed at the lodge while attending a wedding at the Hotel Fauchere. The house was perfect for 2 couples with kids and a dog. While we didn't get a lot of time to explore because of the wedding, our time in the house was relaxing and serene. We did get a chance to hike down to the dam, and then to the waterfall, and its definitely worth it. Looking forward to another trip the the lodge soon.
