Staying at Sherrie and Deana’s private apartment in Maplewood was an absolute pleasure, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment I arrived, I was charmed by the neighborhood—a perfect blend of character and tranquility with welcoming, friendly neighbors. The apartment itself is stunningly designed, with every detail thoughtfully curated. The towels and linens were luxurious, feeling as comfortable and high-quality as any five-star hotel. The bathroom is modern and spacious, and I especially appreciated the powerful hot shower, which was so refreshing after long days out.
The kitchen and living spaces reflect a contemporary yet cozy style, with every amenity one could need, whether you’re preparing a meal or simply unwinding. I loved the interior design; it’s clear that Sherrie and Deana put their heart into creating a space that feels warm and inviting. Above all, Sherrie and Deana are exceptional hosts—attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely kind. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was flawless, always checking in to see if I needed anything. This place is truly a hidden gem, and I feel lucky to have experienced it. I’m already looking forward to my next stay!
My husband, son and I attended a memorial for my brother in Summit, NJ. We are from WA state. The place is very clean and comfortable— it seems mostly new, and is quite tastefully decorated. The host was friendly and very responsive. The only issue is that the description of the place made it seem that there were beds for three people to sleep. This Included very comfortable sofa bed ( as described in the narrative) and it also listed further down as a double sofa bed. In addition , we were told there is a second comfortable sofa that could be used for a 4th to sleep on, which was great because a niece could then stay one night if needed. Unfortunately, the sofa bed is actually a couch and can be slept on when the three back cushions are removed. It is Nevertheless still a couch( when asked, the host told us it is a very high end “love sack”) The other couch is also comfortable for sitting and watching the Dodgers, but too short for my 5’5” niece to sleep on

Hi I'm Sherry and I am a native of Barbados and a 30 plus year resident of the NYC and New Jersey area. I am a nurse that enjoys travel, entertaining and meeting people from all around the world. I have an amazing life partner, and 3 amazing children (one out of college and 2 in college) I'm excited to host guests in our home and ensure the best hospitality that I can.
Why they chose this property
I chose this neighborhood over 21 years ago as it is a wonderful area to bring up children, has wonderful schools, beautiful homes, is a very safe area, great restaurants and is a very diverse and inclusive community. Additionally due to the fact that I work in NYC, it's proximity and accessibility to Manhattan via the train is exceptional.
What makes this property unique
The home is spacious and beautifully curated. Natural light is very important to me and as such, there are lots of windows and French doors throughout the house and the apartment to allow light to flow in. Additionally obtaining a nice, hot, 'high water pressure' shower after a 12 hour or 24 hour nursing shift is important to me; as such all bathrooms have spa tiled floors and high flow/pressure shower heads; bathroom comfort is important to our family. Lastly, the home is a classic 1920s bungalow that has a 6 foot/2 inch ceiling on the ground floor, which makes me feel special and tall in the garden apartment unit, but 'note to self' for individuals over 6'2" (it likely is not as special/comfortable, NBA players better suited to stay at the local Hyatt) Final note of what makes this a special stop above the comforts of the apartment itself, is the proximity to transportation hubs including NJ transit 'Maplewood train station' that delivers you to NYC Penn station in 40 minutes, and EWR/Newark airport only a 15 minute 'low cost' uber ride away.
