We were double booked and locked out with our belongings inside.
My family had a horrific experience with a Vrbo property in Whitehall, NY last night. We booked our stay August 26. We checked in yesterday afternoon, occupied two rooms and went to a wedding. When we returned at 10:30 there was another family in the home! They were afraid and wouldn’t let us in, despite acknowledging seeing our belongings inside. We tried the code we had used to unlock the door in the afternoon and it had been disabled. The other guests had booked it through a different company.The host wouldn’t respond to either of us in either platform. We called the Sheriff’s office who responded by sending three officers. Our uber driver fortunately waited with us. The officers chaperoned us as we finally were let inside to pack our belongings. Just before midnight on Saturday night, we were left without a place to stay in a small town with no hotels. When we contacted Vrbo, the customer service agent said it is our word against the owner who is denying this occurred. The Sheriff’s office is going to release the report and their body cam footage, but it will take time. This was a complete nightmare. Luckily we were able to get a hold of a family member who let us stay with them in the rental they already had six people staying in. This could’ve gone even worse. These owners should be banned from both platforms. Future renters should be warned about these scam artists
