We love offering our family home as a vacation home to those who have been drawn to enjoy an amazing experience on North Captiva Island, just as we have for over twenty years.

Our philosophy is, “Mi Casa, tu casa” (My home is your home).

From the moment that you begin the planning process, our expert team will be on hand to help you get to the island, escort you and your luggage to our home, be on hand 7 days a week to address any issues that arise, and then help you and your guests back to the dock to return to the mainland.

We have teams that can deliver ANYTHING you need from nearby Cape Coral to you 7 days a week: fresh groceries, seafood, beverages, and anything you can think of.

Included in your rental fee is access to North Captiva Island Club with its large, heated pool and outdoor bar and restaurant. Guests can check-out kayaks and other equipment on a complementary basis. (based on availability).

The main level of the house (which is elevated to 23 ft. and allowed us to escape the worst of recent 2024 Hurricanes Milton and Helene), offers breathtaking bird’s eye view of the Gulf of Mexico, Pine Island Sound, the Salty Approach Airstrip. The lanai is the perfect place to enjoy the sunsets and sunrise, read a book, create island arts and crafts, take a nap or simply do nothing at all. Since the house is adjacent to the island’s private airstrip, watching small airplanes and helicopters land, take off and taxi down the runway is a thrill that you will not soon forget.

The fully equipped kitchen is located on this level so you can enjoy the amazing views while preparing meals. The dining room table is made of distressed wood. Here you will enjoy countless hours dining or playing games with the family. The main level has a full bathroom complete with a shower and tub for ease of bathing little ones or enjoying a soak. Two bedrooms are also located on this floor: one room has a queen size bed and an entrance foyer that can be closed to allow this bedroom to become the second master suite. The other bedroom has a full futon and 2 twin beds. Both rooms are tastefully decorated and are the perfect place to rest after a day at the beach.

On the second level of the house is the master bedroom retreat complete with two private balconies. The “Sunrise Balcony” offers views of the sun as it rises over Pine Island Sound to the east. From the comfort of the outdoor bed, you can also gaze at the Milky Way and all the wonders that the night sky has to offer. Shooting stars and a meteor shower or two are not an uncommon occurrence. From the “Sunset Balcony” you will enjoy the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico, views of Cayo Costa and so much more.

The master suite has a romantic canopy bed and a private sitting area. The master bath has a large two person shower as well as an over-sized soaking tub – the perfect place to rejuvenate.

Also located on the second level is a separate bonus sleeping room with a trundle bed that comfortably accommodates two. This bonus room is well appointed with a mall dresser and makes a for a cozy place for kids and kids at heart!

STILL NEED MORE BEDS for those friends and family that just could not stay behind? We know what that is like! Our family is made up of 9 siblings so we understand the importance of spending time together making memories. Sol Mar offers sleeping accommodation for up to two additional people in beds on two convertible twin ottomans and room for two more on the convertible sofa (queen bed) in the living room.

We also provide an outdoor grill, dining table, sitting areas and hammocks.

Main Level
Travertine limestone floors throughout, fully equipped kitchen, dining area, separate laundry room with full size washer and dryer; full bathroom with shower and tub, one bedroom with a queen size bed and foyer entrance that can become a second master, another bedroom with a queen futon and two twin beds, flat screen television in each bedroom, living area with TV, and a game and video library, lanai and wraparound decking throughout most of the exterior of the house.

Second Level
Master bedroom suite with a king bed, 65" smart TV, separate sitting area and desk, master bath with a deep, jetted tub, double sinks, a shower for two, sunset and sunrise balconies. This level also has a separate and private sleeping room, dresser and a trundle bed that comfortably sleeps two.

Sol Mar on North Captiva is the island home of your dreams. Sol Mar will live in your memories, calling you back to your home away from home. Ultimately, you will return. As for the views…well you’ll just have to see for yourself!

Loved our stay!

We had an amazing time at Jose's Hideaway! The proximity to the beach is perfect and the pool/hot tub area was very relaxing. We had a family of 11 stay here and there was plenty of beach chairs, pool toys and space for everyone. We loved the option that we could go to the club to eat a few times and took advantage of their beautiful pool area as well, as part of our rental benefits. Thanks to Lily & Kristen for the great accommodations and assistance with everything. Highly recommend!

Amazing House with everything you need

We have been to north captiva 5 times and this was the first time at sol mar. I can definitely say this is the best house there, you get everything you need. You wake up with a water view, watch the airplanes take off, watch the sunset from the main house or deck area and more. The pool deck area is perfect and comfortable for everyone to enjoy. I definitely recommend this vacation house for anyone looking to relax!

Wonderful Vacation

Lily and Kristin could not be better hosts. The communication was excellent. They were gracious and definitely wanted to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The home is well appointed and VERY comfortable. The beds were inviting and the views are unparalleled. We love North Captiva. We have vacationed there 4 times and it’s been a uniquely wonderful experience each time. Thanks for the lovely time at Sol Mar!

Great get away.

The property was as listed, we had plenty of room to play and longe around. TORTUGA was great with checking in and out. They handled our few issues promptly. I would highly recommend this property for a great get away from it all. Another plus was the air strip. We seen several plans come and go . The kids loved it.

It was exactly what I hoped it would be

The entire house and view of the ocean was amazing. I loved that I could view sea life from the balcony and run down to the beach before it was gone, as well as watch the sunset from the pool. It felt secluded and very VIP the entire time. This will definitely be an annual trip from now on, and wouldn't want to stay at any other homes on the island. I also loved being by the mini airport; even though there was only a couple plains landing during the day, it was always exciting when one took off or landed! Can't wait to go back.

Sol Mar is the place to stay!!

This is our 2nd year coming to the beautiful SolMar home. They have everything in the home one could possibly need. Lily and Ana Marie are the best people and truly care that you have the best experience. . They treat you like family! The pool , the view from the balcony, cabana room, the grounds were all spectacular. My son in law caught 4 juvenile sharks and a stingray right off the beaches. Highly recommend water shoes for shelling! Can’t wait to return next year!! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

AMAZING...Exceeded expectations!

We did make memories that will last a lifetime My daughter and I spend a glorious week at this amazing home. We saw dolphins, manatees and many different types of birds. The home was truly a home away from home. The only bad thing that happened was that we had to leave. On the ferry back to the mainland we were planning our next getaway. If you want to visit a truly magical place where you will be completely rejuvenated. This is the place for you. Thank you for making our vacation such a wonderful experience!

2022 - Return visit

We had another great experience at Sol Mar. the location of the home is fantastic with clear beach/gulf views along with regular (and exciting) plane and helicopter takeoffs and landings. The upgrades to the pool and grilling area are terrific and made the overal experience very relaxing and enjoyable. We also chose to stay another week at a nearby property and the management group and owners were kind enough to work with us so we didn’t lose any of our groceries (to heat) in the transition. A great family location for great family memories! This one will be especially memorable for us as our daughter learned she was accepted at West Point while we were visiting.Thank you!

My One Particular Harbor

In today’s crazy hustle and bustle world, there a few places that can truly take you away from reality. Captiva is one of those places. No matter what is going on in my life, when I am there, I am at peace. Whether I'm sitting on the balcony watching the sunset and the planes landing on the stripe or sitting beachside with a good book, I am in my happiest of places. The house is the perfect oasis. From the spectacular views to it's warm and tropical feel, SolMar is the complete package! And finally, to quote Jimmy Buffet (who has written many songs about this island!!), Captiva is my "one particular harbor". I go as often as I can!

The house was as described. Magnificent. Clean. beautiful, great views, and access to the beach. The house itself warrants a 5 star review. The management company on the other hand was terrible. The only way to communicate with them was thru either text or email. Non responsive to issues. That is why I gave it a 3 star review.

Great vacation

We absolutely loved the location of Jose’s Hide-a-Way. Convenient to beach’s and beach club. Thank you to Laurie Rosen of Tortuga Properties. She was the property manager of the house and was fantastic. Definitely use Island Girl Charters for transportation. They brought all of the groceries and luggage right to the rental for us. The pool and hot tub were fantastic. Only snafu was the casita bedroom. Unfortunately we were unable to use this room due to moisture and a very musty smell. The A/C was broken in this room also. The owner should not advertise this as a 5 th bedroom. The Master bedroom is lovely, the other room upstairs is a twin trundle. Suitable for two children or one adult. We were a large family so we made it work. Listening to the waves lull you to sleep at night made our stay amazing. It was a great vacation. Perfect weather !

Leaving Is Hard. . . . .

. . . . no really, clearing this lovely house for check out was hard! There were twelve of us, three generations celebrating Pop's 75th birthday, and it was a fantastic vacation. But going to sleep in paradise on Friday night and waking up in boot camp Saturday morning was tough! There is a long list of chores to be done for a 9:00 am. checkout. A smaller group with fewer children might have had an easier exit, but we did it and we'll be back next year!!!! Sidebar: three of our kids required antibiotics from the Publix pharmacy for ear infections, strep throat and a badly cut foot (Web MD to the rescue!) If you are unsure about dealing with the unexpected on an island, don't worry. The Tortuga staff are ready to help and it will all work out in island time!

magical, breathtaking, absolutley amazing

My 5 days at this house were literally the most magically days of my life. The home is absolutely beautiful and you will have no reason to want or need to leave the house. There are decks throughout the house that all provide such breathtaking views. The outdoor amenities are so relaxing and filled with everything you need from a grill, the beautiful pool and spa (and all the toys and floats provided), ping pong table and an amazing place to lounge. Just steps away from the pool you will walk out onto the beautiful private beach and feel as if it is your own! Along the side of her house is a gorgeous grass runway where you can watch small private plans land and take off (this is not a typical run way I will tell you that and it is absolutely not noisy but actually an experience to get to see). Every time a plane would take off or be landing, we would all run to the side gate to watch, such a great experience (we were lucky if we got to see this 2 times a day so not something that is occurring all day long). I have traveled many places in my life and there is nothing like this home and the experience it provides. It is in such a perfect location and you truly do not feel like you are in the states. This little island is so amazing and this home is one of the best parts of it, it offers everything you would need or want to provide you with the best vacation of your life!

A Perfect Winter Getaway!

This property is amazing! The house is very spacious which allows for large groups to still have privacy. We had 9 adults, two slept in the casita, the others up in the main house. Beds are very comfortable (would be nice to put a queen size bed in the casita though as the bunk beds weren't all that comfy) but good enough for our 23 year old boys. They enjoyed having their own privacy as well. Kitchen is very well equipped and we made all of our meals here after having groceries delivered to the house the morning of our visit. The view is outstanding, and we walked to the beach every evening for sunset. We watched several planes land and take off on the airstrip, we all enjoyed that very much. The pool was a very special amenity and we got plenty of use out of it and the hot tub. We rented an additional golf cart to use and we all enjoyed driving around the island. Go to the sandbar to find rare shells and sand dollars! The reason for only 4 stars instead of 5 is because the hot tub and pool were the same temp, you couldn't heat the hot tub without heating the pool as well and the blower wasn't working. Also, the bikes provided are not in rideable condition, they are super rusty. The kayak was available for use and that was also nice. Overall, a property that is well worth its rental rate. The homeowners have very tastefully decorated the house and Tortuga Properties is great to work with. Thanks for a great week on your beautiful island!

About the host

Host profile image
Our family emigrated from Cuba many decades ago. As islanders, the ocean is an integral part of who we are and where we want to be. Sol Mar means Sun Sea and they are the perfect combination of words to embody North Captiva Island. We bought Sol Mar on a wing and alot of prayers so that our family of 9 siblings, countless nephews, nieces, spouses and grandbabies would have a gathering place to laugh, to make memories, to enjoy each other, to rejuvenate, to heal. We come together in this special place to share the simple joys that life offers and to relish the gift of time. Our hope is that you will do the same.

Why they chose this property

Why Sol Mar? The answer is easy: Sol Mar is a state of mind.

Sol Mar is our family home. Although we have owned this house for over a decade, we were able to realize our dream of becoming part time island residents a few year years ago so our theme, "Mi casa, tu casa" truly comes from the heart. Sol Mar is a gathering place, a dream realized through love and founded on the premise that we must take the time to slow down, enjoy each other, rejuvenate, love, laugh and like children; play. Our hope is that every family, every group, every couple, every person and every child that comes to Sol Mar experiences the wonder that is Sol Mar and the magic she creates.

What makes this property unique

Sol Mar is the only home offered for rent that is uniquely located just steps from the beach, adjacent to the airstrip with a and amazing views.
