Enjoy watching the whales breach and the turtles play in the waves during the day. At night, let the sound of the waves lull you to sleep in this beautiful private home located in Pahoa. This custom two-story oceanfront, east-side of Hawaii, home is so close to the gorgeous Pacific Ocean you’ll feel like you are on a cruise ship. Home away from home
This house was a wonderful place to stay. There was no air-conditioning in this place but it was not needed. The wind coming off the sea was sufficient to cool the house and sometimes at night it was cold. The sounds of the waves crashing against the cliffs was the best "white noise" to fall asleep or read your favorite book. The place is stocked with the tools you need to cook with. The neighbors are quiet and friendly. The place is conveniently located close to the Volcano National Park so you can vist the Volcano. We did get to see the eruption during our stay. Several hiking trails beaches located near by. Kona is about two hours away but is worth the drive for the beautiful scenery. Mauna Loa is beautiful. The owners are very nice and are easy to reach if you have questions. Don't feed the chickens! Lol

House
I would rate it a 4.5 . Front windows towards the ocean have a heavy film on them and view is not clear. Pool was cold. A few bugs but you get that in most warm climates. If those were improved I would give it a 5. But the real question is would we stay there again, yes would definitely stay there again. Great location and views right on the ocean and it actually has 4 bedrooms.

Amazing home
It was amazing to wake up to this beautiful view and listen to the waves crashing along the lava wall. It is so relaxing. We had the best time here and can't wait to come back. The owner and housecleaner were extremely nice! Thank you so much for opening up your home for us to experience hawaii in an amazing home. Close to stores, volcano, beach, ziplining and much more! Beautiful house overlooking the ocean
This is our third stay in this house. The house is immaculate and the views are next to none. The waves splashing on the lava banks are fantastic and the sound is so soothing. The location is close to Pahoa with great restaurants, grocery and drug stores. I will be back!

Our Ohana does at least 3 Staycations a year and this is one of the more calm, welcoming relaxing homes we’ve stayed at. Can’t beat being right on the ocean. Will put it on our list of VRBO favorites, and definitely rent again.

Great stay on the Big Island.
Our family (2 adults, 1 older child, 2 younger children) stayed at Ka hale ma kahakai for 2 weeks in Aug 2024 and were not disappointed. When we first walked in, the expansive view was unbelievable and the house was impressive. The house was very clean, spacious, well stocked, nice appliances, great showers and very comfortable beds. We didn't use TVs but Wifi seemed good strength for all our devices. Washer/dryer were new and worked well. Pool and yard were a great addition. Pool wasn't big enough to do lengths, but was great for a swim on hot days to cool down. Lots of patio furniture on lanais and by pool to relax outside. The neighbourhood felt safe and neighbours seemed friendly. Although there is no A/C, and was warm in day, the fans and trade winds did make the house cool at night. However, because of this, the house did stay humid so you have to be prepared for always feeling damp...but I think that is the norm in Hawaii. As for location, we were there for an multi-day event in Hilo and we did find the drive in "rush hour" to be very busy from about 6:30am-8:30am, and then again on return from 3-6pm. It sometimes took over an hour. I may not have been completely prepared for that. It is a single lane road for the most part, and there aren't many bypass roads. As well, even though there is a Malama Market in Pahoa, it is quite costly so we found shopping best in Hilo. This would be the only downfall.

Great Views
The house is much bigger than you would expect from the pictures. We had 6 “adults” - which was me and my husband, and our 18 & 20 year old children and their significant others. The lower level was perfect for the kids, with direct access to the pool and their own living room. The master has spectacular views on the 1st floor. Location is a bit more remote, but it served as a good base to head south, north or west. If you stay here and you need to feed a lot of peopl, a drive over to Costco in Kona would be a good idea as the local grocery stores are high in price (in alignment with the rest of the islands). Would stay here again.

Amazing Views
This home had the most amazing views of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. It was so nice at the house, that we didn't want to leave it to go elsewhere. My daughters loved the pool and sunbathing while listening to the ocean waves crash into the lava rocks. We also loved watching the turtles right from the backyard pop up out of the water. The sounds of the ocean at night while sleeping was also amazing and so calming. I would definitely stay at this home again, it was so peaceful and had everything we needed.

Home by the crashing waves
Overall the house was amazing - especially its proximity to the ocean and the clean pool in the backyard. The house was very spacious (it had a fourth bedroom of which I was not aware). The constant sound of the waves crashing into the shore is what made this house special to me. Sitting on the lanai on the left side of the house was so comfortable with the constant Tradewinds and the view was breathtaking. I was concerned that the kids would not tolerate not having air conditioning, but overall they did just fine. In the middle of the day in July it did get a little hot, but the mornings and evenings were just fine - especially on the lanai. The washer was broken while there and a new one was coming from the main land at some point. We hand washed our clothes and then used the functioning dryer. Being able to do laundry on a long Hawaiian vacation was great. Connie, the property manager, was great. We were a bit slow to get out and they had a quick turnaround between guests. Connie was patient and treated us kindly. Overall I highly recommend staying at this house. I would certainly stay here again :)

A Wonderful Experience!
This home looked great in the pictures, but they honestly do not do it justice. Definitely the nicest property we ever stayed at! Immaculate, roomy, and well supplied, it exceeded all our expectations. The sunrises were different ever morning, but each one spectacular. The abundance of sea turtles for watching in the water near the shore may have been our favorite part. Thank you for sharing this place with us!

Paradise found
We split our vacation to stay half on each side, and stayed here first. Because we are staying on the Kona side for the second half, we landed in Kona, so it was quite a drive - THAT WE WERE TOTALLY EXPECTING! This is not a complaint, just a statement ;) We arrived in the dark, but were still able to see what a beautiful home this was! We were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks below. We woke refreshed to the most beautiful views! Our days out were nice because we planned it so that we visited areas on this side while here (Volcano Park, and the coast up from Hilo). We walked the neighborhood and were greeted by a neighbor, we noticed that the Big Island has the friendliest locals (we have stayed at all the main islands)! We were sad to leave, but left feeling so relaxed and refreshed! The home was clean, our bed was so comfortable, and we had plenty of towels, dishes, and more available to us. We ate most meals there, and used the barbecue. This home is off the beaten path, in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood with the most amazing views! Thank you for sharing your home with us!!

Windward coast home
Overall we are happy with our stay of six days. It was extremely windy with rough surf for the first few days resulting in salt spray on the house and moisture inside. There are hoses outside so you can wash the windows to see outside. Once the wind decreased and the sun came out it was really good. The house has all tile floors, practical but noisy. Any sounds from the main bedroom could be heard in the bedroom below. There was plenty of kitchen equipment. We saw two whales cruising by. We did use the pool - noodles are provided. The maintenance staff were very responsive. Restaurants and groceries are 15 minutes away. Both the local fish and Mexican restaurants are very good. So is the grocery store. The photo shown is a good example of the surf at this house. Beautiful.

We live in Alaska and frequently fly to Hawaii for vacations. The tropical life greatly appealed to us so we decided to purchase a home in Hawaii. We have been married for over 30 years and have 3 lovely girls.

Why they chose this property

We chose this home for several reasons. We fell in love with the view and believe the house is in a perfect location. We decided to do a vacation rental so we could share this wonderful environment with others. It will also help us maintain the property until the day that we can retire there.

What makes this property unique

We like the tropical breezes, the expansive ocean view and listening to the tropical wildlife. We enjoy the fresh island fruit and creative island drinks.
