This rental management company just can't get it right
I read the reviews prior to renting and so some of this is on me for not trusting the earlier comments. However, much of what I was reading was related to the fees. So I did the math upfront and was willing to pay the fees on the back end, realizing that altogether, I wasn't paying more for similar square footage and location than other VRBO places. Our orientation to the place was fine. Javier showed up on time, was pleasant and hospitable and walked us through all of the necessary elements of the beautiful condo. He even came back to do a tech check when we reported that the children's TV wasn't working (that never got resolved BTW).
The problem's began day 2 of our 9 day stay. Apparently, the building decided to do maintenance work directly outside of our condo. This included jackhammering and sawing into the plaster wall right under our bedroom window from about 9am-4pm every day (except during the weekend). So not only did we not have privacy (bedroom window) but the noise caused made the place uninhabitable during the daytime and the dust that they kicked up made the patio overlooking the beach unusable as well.
However, the main problem here is with the rental management company.. They were completely incompetent during our experience. When we first sent them a report of what was going on, we received a text response, "not true!". It wasn't until we sent them videos of the work being done with time stamps that they said that they would look into the matter. We were told repeatedly that "this would be the last day for noise!" but other than the weekend the noise consistently would last from about 9-4 every day. After the 4th day of noise and after another video sent by text to the RMC, the reply was, "you need to check out of my property today by 2pm, you will receive a partially (sic) refund". We were surprised and upset to say the least. We have two small children who were being displaced as well.
The "partially" refund was the equivalent to 2 days stay (with the fees) which were the days that we didn't stay...not really compensation for the constant jackhammering that we heard outside our condo days almost every day. The real kicker is that the building itself had an administrative office and when I went to them with my concerns, they said that the owner knew about this maintenance months in advance and apparently decided to rent the place anyway. Be careful with this one. You may be in store for a real headache.
