Spent a wonderful week at this house located on Carlow Island, on the outskirts of Eastport. House was the perfect size for our family of four, very clean, and had everything we needed for our stay.
House was easy to find following the directions, and check in was no problem. Do make sure you stop and stock up on groceries on the way in, as hours are limited with stores in the area. Took a few minutes to figure out the cable TV, but was not a problem after figuring which buttons to press.
Everyone loved the views of the bay and Deer Island, and we enjoyed evening walks on the beach. My boys made friends with the neighbors dogs who got their walk in the evening also, and looked forward to seeing them each day.. Please take note that it is a rocky beach, as are most beaches in downeast Maine.
House is conveniently located to several attractions and activities, provided you don't mind driving a little. Eastport is quiet, but we managed to catch some mackerel at the breakwater after a local lent us his spare rods, stocked up on mustard at Rayes, and hiked at Shackford State Park. We visited West Quoddy lighthouse in Lubec, explored the coastal trail, and also hiked the bold coast trail in Cutler, which provides excellent views of the rocky Maine coastline. Boyden Lake in Perry is 15 minutes away, and provides good bass fishing along the shore, and has a boat ramp. One son wanted a sandy beach, so we spent a day at Roque Bluffs State Park near Machias, about an hour away. Also visited St Croix National Historic Site near Calais on rt 1. And if one really doesn't mind driving, Acadia National Park is a little over two hours away, and we were able to see most of the major attractions in one long day.
Definitely try Quoddy Bay Lobster(check the hours), the Friendly Restaurant, and do not miss the Polar Treat(the lobster rolls might surprise you!). Overall, we loved our vacation in Eastport and wouldn't hesitate to stay at this house again!
