Goldfinch Cottage is a spacious four-bedroom, two-bath home situated in a quiet residential neighborhood less than ten minutes from Plum Island beaches and historic downtown Newburyport. The house sleeps eight in comfort and privacy and has a large outdoor space and many nearby attractions.
DOWNSTAIRS, the bright main floor includes:
* Living room with a cozy electric fireplace; Frame TV with Roku for movie nights; and board games
* Dining room with room for eight
* Well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, induction stove, and many small cooking appliances
* One of the bedrooms is downstairs with two twin beds
* One of the full bathrooms is downstairs
UPSTAIRS you'll find the other three bedrooms and bath:
* Two bedrooms with queen beds
* One bedroom with a pair of twin XL beds and a laptop-friendly workstation
* A recently-remodeled upstairs bathroom with a glass showerUpstairsTwo queen
OUTSIDE, the cottage has a large fenced yard with a deck, gas grill, wood fire pit*, outdoor heater, covered bar, and dining area. There is also a basketball hoop in the driveway
* Note that fire pit use is not allowed during very dry seasons when either the state or the town of Newbury occasionally issue burn bans.
A BASEMENT recreation space has a junior-sized ping-pong table and a piano keyboard. There are also laundry machines available in the basement
ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES. For guests with limited mobility, Goldfinch Cottage features one downstairs bedroom and bathroom with shower grab bars and a raised toilet seat. The living room recliner has a motorized lifting seat. The house is not wheelchair accessible because of two steps from the ground to the main floor, and narrow interior doorways.
AMENITIES FOR GUEST COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE include a kitchen stocked with basic cooking supplies (such as oil, salt, pepper, coffee and sugar) and supplies in each bathroom (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash). For those traveling with children, we have a high chair, a portable crib, and games. For those interested in outdoor activities, we offer beach chairs (3), beach towels, a cooler, and saucer sleds (2) for your use.
SMART & GREEN HOME. The home has smart technology for your safety and for the protection of the home. This includes a security camera beside the front entrance directed at the entry and driveway and a Minut noise-monitoring device in the main living space that does not record sound. Tampering with these is against house rules. There are no cameras or recording devices inside the house. Because many house systems depend on WiFi, guests are not permitted to tamper with or disable the WiFi.
The home is equipped with many energy-efficient and green features that help keep the house comfortable including a new heat pump HVAC system and rooftop solar panels.
LOCATION: Plum Island, with its beaches and large nature reserve, is just eight minutes away. Newburyport’s shops and restaurants are just five minutes away. The house is just 45 minutes from Boston and near the Newburyport Commuter Rail station. We recommend cars or bikes to help you get places during your stay, there isn't much within walking distance.
Even though the house is in a suburban area, it's close to nature and there is plentiful wildlife in the area. Beyond our neighbors across the street and behind us is open land that leads to marshes and forests. Guests should expect to see insects, spiders, and other wildlife during their visit. We do not spray or put poison inside or out to eliminate wildlife except to control dangerous or destructive animals.
PROPERTY ACCESS: Guests have access to the entire property except for a few locked storage closets. The closet in bedroom 1 is a locked owner closet. Guests using this room have suitcase stands, wall hooks, and a nearby hall closet. People who take care of outdoor spaces (e.g., gardeners and snow removal workers) may be working on-site during your stay.
Your booking includes damage protection insurance, covering accidental damage such as spills or broken items. Please let us know immediately about any accidental damage during your stay.
