cozy getaway

My family was delighted with our stay at Hummingbird Hill. Jim has obviously put a lot into this place and he made our stay so easy and comfortable. It's packed with toys of all kinds for adults, children, and dogs. Our dog's favorite thing was the big property to explore. Our 8-yo loved the music room. My wife and I loved relaxing in the hot tub and several of the cozy spaces inside for family time. The solar powered level 2 EV charger was a nice plus on our spring break road trip. We also enjoyed having such a short drive up into the national forest for a day hike. The privacy and uniqueness of this property would definitely make me consider returning.

Fun storytelling stay

*“What an absolutely fantastic stay! From the smoothest check-in and clear directions to the fun, cozy living space and amazing outdoor adventures just steps away—Hummingbird Hill was the perfect family getaway! We celebrated six birthdays here, and this space made it extra special.Every corner of the house has a story to tell, adding to the charm and character of the stay. Jim, the host, was incredible—quick to respond and always ensuring we had everything we needed. And the cherry on top? A perfect sledding hill right in the front yard! The only tiny surprise was that the listing photos showed bunk beds, but while there weren’t any, there were still plenty of comfy sleeping arrangements.I highly recommend this stay for any family looking for a fun and memorable retreat. And you can bet we’ll be back soon!”**

Well equipped vacation rental

I was surprised at the amount of things that were available for our use. There were organs, guitars, ipads, coffee, milk and eggs in fridge. Due to illness, only me and my daughter used the cabin and we only used some coffee and candy left for us. The two beds we used were very comfortable. It was close to the wedding venue we attended and the nearby Woodshed Cafe was a great place for breakfast.

Perfectly time vacation

As I was leaving town on Tuesday I found my neighbor dead in his driveway from a heart attack. This vacation was perfectly timed for my husband and me! Had a nice time away and enjoyed the patio. Spent my birthday at the cabin. Looking forward to our next trip to Naches.

Relaxing Time Away from Home

We all had a great time together. It was relaxing and comfortable. We were amazed with the snacks and supplies that were available to us. We would have liked to have a higher quality toilet paper, but we survived with what was available. The bed my husband and I slept on was very comfortable. The children we had with us were ages 10-14. They found ways to be entertained, but we noticed there is lots more for toddlers and preschoolers. We did not make use of the hot tub.

Fantastic place for a family retreat

We were so surprised when we arrived and there was a kitty pool full of clean water and toys ready to go. In the house gifts for the family and again the kids and even treats for our dog. He truly thought of everything. The house was large and had everything you could ever need. I highly recommend staying here and we will return.

Wedding

The house was a 3 year olds dream! Our grandchildren ages 3 and twin 1 year olds loved all the toys! It was 10 minutes from the American Homestead where our youngest daughter got married. It is a pet friendly house however we did not bring a pet and my son in law was having an allergic reaction to the pet hair.. We all slept like babies.

Hanson Family Fra-la-la

We had another amazing stay! Several family members joined Mike and I and our aging dogs for the first weekend. We celebrated my 1st teenage birthday on Friday, and had a fabulous Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday. Friday night was the first time in a hot tub for several folks; the experience made an impression on my grand niece who informed everyone "this was the best-best-best-best-best (about 27 bests) BEST DAY EVER!! The neighbor goats visited and the dogs were very curious. You could see the thought bubble above their heads: what kind of dogs are THOSE?!? The rest of the week was much quieter and we certainly enjoyed our time there. Thanks again!

Another wonderful stay

I have stayed at this property several times over the past few years and have enjoyed it every time. Obviously because I keep coming back. I like checking in and having the entire property to myself without somebody overlooking me. I know some people enjoy having a property manager on-site but I do not.I want to be left alone. I come on holiday to the mountains to get away from everybody. Any time I have a question, Jim is quick to respond. The house is comfortable. The property is beautiful. I enjoy the patio more than anything!

2nd Amazing Stay at Hummingbird Hill

My other half and I, with our two senior citizen dogs, had a lovely getaway here. Our first trip was in April, loved it! I thought in late October (this trip) the hummingbirds would have been gone but they were still there! We enjoyed the view, the quiet, the hummingbirds, the eclectic decor (so fun!) and the care that Jim puts into making his guests feel welcome. Our Chihuahua-mix Willie loved the doggie treats (small like him) and I think ate the whole bowl! ;-) We have a week+ planned in spring 2024 with a number of family members and I am so looking forward to it. We will be making memories and enjoying the many amenities that are part of the Hummingbird Hill Resort experience. My 12 yr old nephew will be in awe of the music room and little drone toy. This is a wonderful place to spend any amount of time. Thanks Jim!

Cute little rustic cabin

If tou need to get away and reset, hummingbird hill is the place to go. Tucked away off the beaten path, it is quiet and charming. House is spacious with an amazing wrap around porch, and bedrooms are nice. We originally had 10 adults and 4 kids on our trip, and after some last minute sickness, only 5 adults and 3 kids came, which was perfect. More than that and it would have been a bit cramped. The host was so gracious and left us a hummingbird feeder to take home, handmade keychains, and left coloring books, puzzles, and a ball for the kids to keep. He also left out blueberry muffin mixes, and had lot of little toiletries in case you forgot somwthing. Even left a bowl of dog treats in case youre traveling with a furry friend. Our stay was so nice, had great things to do with the kids (outaide swing, pool table, foosball table, large buckets of toys) and we all enjoyed the views. Traveling with smaller children might be difficult, there are lots of decorations which makes the house charming, but might be troublesomw for more curious younger children. Would definitely come again, and recommend to reset, unwind, and relax!

There were so many special touches throughout the house that assured that we had a wonderful stay at the Hummingbird Hill Resort. We would highly recommend this property to friends & family. Hummingbird resort

if you enjoy a nice outdoor hot tub with 2 grills on the deck and nice views of the night skies and Hummingbirds, This IS the place to stay! Oh, don't forget about the mini foosball / pool table downstairs and ample play areas for young ones too. The big TV & AMPLE movie selection and internet access will not leave you wondering if there is anything to watch. PLENTY of knives and cookware too. The wall to wall carpet will keep your feet warm in the winter while the AC keeps you VERY COMFORTABLE even when it is over 90 degrees outside :) Jim has a great place here and I will be letting my Family and friends know to look this property up for their next get away. Close access to town ( about 20 miles) neighbors are not right next to you and the forest lands are very close on a VERY well maintained road to offer you lots of outdoor adventures to be had! We all had a great time. :)

About the host

Hosted by Jim Farrier

Host profile image
I'm Jim Farrier and I purchased this wonderful log home as a weekend home and vacation escape. I love the mountain air with the gentle summer here and the deep fluffy snow in the winter. For 20 years, I've worked about 210 miles away in Vancouver, so I drive a lot, but I've made it here most weekends in the past 17 years. My interests are nature, meditation, gardening, music, science, business, AI, energy, spirituality, hiking, exploring, creative thinking, alternative health, developing peace and well being. I believe that life is complex with unseen forces and that we are all connected with our roots into the land. I like unusual unique things that have real value even though only a few special people can see the true worth.

I grew up in Tigard, Oregon and lived in Portland much of my life. I became tired of the city and I was fascinated and drawn to the Columbia Gorge and would travel and hike incessantly in the beautiful areas. I currently live in The Dalles and have a long commute. I worked for a division of a large multinational electronics corporation. My work has been multi-faceted, dealing with both Information Technology, Project Management, and Market Research. I like to use both the analytical and intuitive side of my brain for both my work and play. My education is continuing in IT, Project Management, electronics, communications, and business. I hold an MBA from Marylhurst University. I never stop learning and I keep pushing the envelope to understand life. I've recently obtained Project Management, Agile and CompTIA IT certifications.

This place allows me to really relax, but it is also a place to dream and be creative. I feel inspired every time I set foot on the property. Among the trees, the hills and the wood, life's problems seem to evaporate and real answers seem to come naturally and spontaneously. For me, this has been a marvelous place to dream, make music, enjoy relationships, write, learn and explore life to the fullest.

Why they chose this property

This mountain lodge is a peaceful place. It is a place to relax with room to spread out and expand in all directions. It can be a place to think and solve problems, but mostly to unwind and let your cares fade away. This place grew on me from the moment I saw it. It seemed spectacular and unusual in all respects. While I never expected I would use it much, I've spent hundreds of hours in the hot tub, relaxing, meditating, watching the birds fly above and the trees sway in the breeze against the backdrop of the steep rocky cliffs that make up the gorge walls. This place is magical for me and it feels alive with a gentle energy that holds and supports each thought and emotion. Being here brings peace of mind. Also, this has been a good place to visit with family and talk, relax and just have fun.

What makes this property unique

While it is relaxing in its own right, this place is a good jump-off point to explore the entire area from Mount Rainier National Park to all the points of interest in the Yakima valley and even further. The log construction makes this place have a different quality of sound, warmth, and comfort. There are over 200 art pieces, displayed. Some guests have described Hummingbird Hill as going to grandma's house. If you've ever wondered what it was like to live in a log house, you would hardly believe the difference and the nuances of the experience. It really grows on you.
