How Your Total Payment is Disbursed:
A $150 cleaning fee will be included in your booking. VRBO describes this as "Host Fees." This is the ONLY required "Host Fee." If you are bringing a pet, check the box for Pet when making your reservation, and a Pet Fee of $75 will be added. VRBO calls this a "Host Fee" as well.
"Guest Service Fees" are set, charged to you the Guest, and collected by VRBO as their fee. In addition, VRBO charges the Owner a "Commission" of 5% of the rental amount and fees (Cleaning and Pet Fees), plus an additional 3% of the Guest's total booking amount (Rental Amount, Cleaning and Pet Fees, VRBO's Guest Fees, and all taxes) for "payment processing fees."
VRBO collects local and state taxes, which are set by the state and local taxing authorities, and pays them directly to the taxing authorities, as required by law.
Required Taxes:
NORTH CAROLINA 4.75% General Sales and Use Tax
CHEROKEE County 4% Accommodations Tax
CHEROKEE County 2.25% General Sales and Use Tax
Thus, the Owners receive approximately 85-90% of the total of the nightly rental rate paid by the Guest. All other fees and charges are paid to third parties, including VRBO, local and state taxing authorities, and cleaning services.

About the host
Hosted by Randy and Bonnie Rich

We live on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia. Our kids are in college, so we like to divide our time among the lake, the mountains, and the beach. We've had a vacation rental on St. Simons Island since 2017 and really love sharing our homes with other families.
This is our personal vacation home, inherited from my Dad (our children’s “Granddaddy”). We love and cherish the cabin and strive to take good care of it the way he did. We had the shadow box coffee table custom made to fit the drawing board, which he had set up on the kitchen table. We kept it just like he had it with all of his tools laid out, and set it down into the shadow box. Daddy was a young 76 when COVID stole him from us. He still did consulting engineering work from his kitchen table, rode a Harley and drove his Jeep on these beautiful mountain roads, and did all of his own maintenance on everything he owned. He and I hung and placed all the family photos, which is why I chose to leave them when we started sharing his cabin on the vacation rental market. I added the photos of him and his firehouse as a young Dad after his passing. These were taken when I was a newborn. We hope you enjoy your stay here in our peaceful place.

Why they chose this property
We love all the hiking, river activities, wineries, and unique, privately owned shops and restaurants that the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains have to offer. We think our cabin and the little private gravel road it sits on look like they are right out of a storybook. The other two cabins on our road are also recently remodeled; one is a retired couple's mountain vacation home, and the other is the retirement home of a veteran. We have a wonderful community here!
What makes this property unique
Granddaddy's Cabin is warm and rustic and recently completely renovated. So it also has all the comforts of a modern home. We are very fortunate in that we have fast fiberoptic cable, so we can stream TV and work remotely via Zoom when we need to. This is rare in the area.
