Great property right on the ocean ... perfect for Striper fishing from rocks in front of the cabin. So close to path to Little River and access to Reid State Park or private Sea Beach, both short walks from the cabin. Owners easy to communicate with.
We experienced a double rainbow during our stay!
We finally made it back to the cottage after nearly 25 years. It was a wonderful time with lots of relaxation as well as seal, dolphin, and whale sightings from the deck. It was great to see how much of the cottage has remained the same all these years later. By far the best getaway with the best view. Thanks for the great week.
Photos depict much but not the sounds of the waves crashing and the smell of the salt air! This was perfect for our family and we had a great stay ... loved being able to walk to Reid State Park and Sea Beach. Caught Stripers off the rocks in front of the cabin as well as on the other side of the point at the boat ramp.
Will hope to return!
I was so sad to leave! Our week at DotSea was wonderful and relaxing. The waves crashing on the rocks below are hypnotic, and the view is outstanding. This is a really special place, we would return in a heartbeat.
To speak to more specifics:
The house is a basic cottage, but very well equipped, clean, and welcoming. Plenty of dishes, utensils, cooking tools, and spices. The DotSea binder had lots of great info and guidance and the owner was extremely responsive. The wifi was super solid. There is a small tv screen with a first gen appleTV, which was totally sufficient for the rare times we put something on in the evening. The weather and outside temperature vacillated quite a bit during our week and the house had good fans as well as cozy heating blankets to cover all possible temps. Be advised there is no AC and the hot sunny days heat up the cottage quite quickly- good days to get out of the house and hit the beach. The Queen mattress was fine. The daybed in the living room was great for reading on the cooler days. We used the very nice binoculars to check out the lobster boats and identify the ducks that came by every day.
We utilized the gorgeous private beach within the association which was a minute away by car or a short walk. We also used the complimentary state park pass for Reid. There is also a great freshwater lake 15 min away in Arrowsic (Sewall Pond) for legit swimming if the ocean is too cold.
I could go on and on.. suffice it to say, this was a great rental and would recommend it highly!
We had a wonderful week at DotSea! Beautiful view, super comfortable house and lots of quiet. The view is spectacular
and we saw so many hummingbirds come to the feeder. Looking forward to another visit as this is now on our list of favorite places. Thank you for sharing it with us!
This cottage had everything we needed- electric blankets were great for the chilly September nights. The deck was perfect for watching the sunrise over the wide open Atlantic, and lobster boats pull in their catch!
The photos don't do this place justice. It was amazing. Attic stairs to the loft are only for the young. Drop off in front of the cottage is a bit scary and you need to keep an eye on it when people and dogs are off the deck. But I could not have asked for a better cottage or location for my first visit to Maine.

Lovely!
The views were beautiful! The kitchen was perfect with anything you could want to cook a meal. Very quiet neighborhood and a short walk to the private beach. Staying late in the season we had all kinds of different weather to watch the ocean waves. Thank you for the perfect stay--hope you have an opening for next year!

Beautiful beyond words!
Be prepared to be in awe when you first arrive at DotSea. The photos do not capture the beauty and sound of the ocean vista. It really is stunning! Inside the cottage is a bit roomier than the photos led me to believe and it is very comfortable and clean with everything one needs. We have AT&T and had phone service; wifi came in nice and strong. We even used the Apple TV to watch a movie or 2.
As someone noted in an earlier review, it's really not a great rental for people with very young children. The cliff is steep, but if you have sure footing, even an old gal like me can get down to the rock ledges below. And the ledges...perfect to fish from all day long, and believe me, that's just what my husband did. We saw many seals, dolphins (porpoises?), osprey and eagles!
Indian Point is a delight to walk around, offering pathways to get to different vantage points to view the ocean and it's own private beach. One such pathway leads to Reid State Park if you cross the Little River at low tide. You can actually see parts of Reid from the front deck. I have many photos of the morning fog peeking through the trees and rocks at Reid.
Your first drive through Indian Point will be a bit scary as the road is curvy, hilly and narrow but you quickly get used to it. There are a couple of places to get lobster and good seafood closeby.
All in all, DotSea has moved up to the #1 spot for our family vacations. Thank you for sharing this little slice of heaven.

amazing views
Family had a great week, weather was perfect for 7 days. The access to the tidal pool in front was a steep walk but it was great to explore. The beach whether it was Reid or the private beach was easily accessible. The camp was just that, a camp no glitz or glamour but had all the things needed to live comfortably. I hope to go back once my child gets older. The sea cliff is about 25 feet and is maybe 3 feet off the front porch so you need to keep a close eye on your young ones that can walk.

About the host
Hosted by Meg, Rick & Dan Hoadley
Meg, Rick & Dan are the owners of DotSea. The siblings have been enjoying the cottage since the 1980s and have taken over ownership and management from their parents, Lynn & Garrick Hoadley. DotSea is lovingly named for the original owner and close family friend that built this retreat in the 1960s.
Why they chose this property
Our family was lucky enough to be a part of the story of DotSea because of the very special woman that built it. Dorthy "Dotsie" Chynoweth built the cottage in the 60s on the rocky coast of Maine as a summer getaway. Dotsie had an adventurous life and for years taught school in New Jersey. She retired to a small town in update New York called Gilbertsville. Years later a former student, Lynn Hoadley, also happened to settle in Gilbertsville. Lynn & Garrick had spent years living around the world throughout Garrick's career in the Navy. They chose Gilbertsville because it was near Garrick's hometown. Dotsie became a close family friend to the Hoadley's and they enjoyed visiting DotSea for years as guests. When Dotsie was no longer able to visit the cottage the Hoadley family purchased it from her.
What makes this property unique
DotSea is just a few very short feet from the rocky cliff that separates land and sea and boasts amazing sunrise views. The wall of windows facing the ocean gives a clear view of the crashing waves day and night. The stars come out in full force for an amazing show. WIFI and landline phone service available. Accommodations are rustic (be ready to wash your dishes by hand...) but Dotsea is the place to disconnect, relax and be present. Enjoy!
