We are located across the highway from the lake shore but you can still hear waves rolling onto the beach as well as the wolves howling their night song,, and sometimes during the day as well.
Judge Magney State Park is just down the road. If you bring bikes you can ride the under 3 miles down the road to it and hike the awe inspiring trail to Devil's Kettle!
Just a short 20 min drive north is American Falls, a boardwalk in to a gorgeous falls on the Pigeon River that is beautiful at all seasons (and is a great Walleye fishing river downstream).
We are 17.3 miles north of Grand Marais so just a 15 minute drive south and you are there and can enjoy all the GM has to offer. Most weekends in the summer there is something going that is a fun filled day. Then you can return to the natural woods of the area.
Our property connects to a 200 acre parcel of woodland that is trust land so you can hike or hunt that area right from the bunkhouse. There are no trails or roads in that 200 acres.
Between our bunkhouse and GM there are beaches where you can enjoy the shore, rock pick, read a book or just take in the calm or lapping waves.

About the host
Hosted by Julie Dahlberg

Tom and Julie spent many years visiting the Boundary Waters, local resorts and decided to buy land and build a cabin that would overlook Lake Superior. Having spent a couple decades enjoying the location, watching moose, deer, bear, wolves, pine martin & eagles come visit the property we decided to build the bunkhouse so more people could enjoy these Northwoods as we have. Tom & Julie reside in the Excelsior area of MN.
Why they chose this property
We loved the natural look of the Boreal Forest and being close to Lake Superior. We wanted a respite where there was no lawn to mow, but rather rock beneath our feet with ledges throughout, where we felt a part of the forest, even though the highway is not far away. We feel both isolated in the woods as well as a close connection to civilization, the perfect mix.
What makes this property unique
The Superior Bunkhouse is a rustic location that allows guests to experience the Northwoods in its natural state, the beauty along with the natural cycles of the Boreal Forest and its wildlife.
