About the host
Hosted by Anthony J Vardaro
Your hosts are Tony & Cheryl. We love to travel and have stayed in vacation rentals for years before we got our own place. We live in Palm Springs, so we're close by to assist you for whatever is needed. Tony works as an architectural tour guide in Palm Springs. Cheryl worked for years as a travel writer, and wrote many travel books to Hawaii, including Hawaii for Dummies. That's why our condo looks like it does!
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the Ocotillo Lodge condominium complex in the Twin Palms neighborhood of Palm Springs from the first time we saw it on a Modernism Week tour in 2018. We bought our unit in 2019 for us to stay at when we visited, renting it when we weren't there. However, in 2022 we bought a house in Palm Springs for ourselves but have continued to rent the condo. We even still do staycations a couple times a year even though we're 5 miles away. The Ocotillo is a magical community that brings us a sense of peace and community that the house doesn't provide.
The Ocotillo is a classic midcentury modern building, designed by noted architects Palmer & Krisel, and opened as a hotel in 1957. In 1996 it was converted into condominiums. In 2024 it was designated as a Class 1 Historical Site by the city of Palm Springs. The complex is almost unchanged and was recently repainted in the original color pattern, and the original signage, with a font hand-drawn by architect William Krisel, was restored. Other than the later-added gym room, you'd be hard pressed to not think you've entered a time machine to 1957!

What makes this property unique
Our Hawaii/tiki/Polynesian interior design will transport you into vacation mode as soon as you pass through the door. The private patio, equipped with a firepit accessible by three sliding doors, adds plenty of that indoor/outdoor living that is a cornerstone of midcentury modern design. And your mere steps from the Ocotillo's keyhole-shaped pool, the largest private pool in the city!
