About this property
Lake Front Home close to Nashville IN, Bloomington IN and Indiana University
Relive the 60's in our Strawberry Fields lake house. Nestled in the Monroe/Brown County hills on beautiful Lake Lemon. Serving families as a guest house since 2001 and was a residence since 1957 making it a very old lake house, nothing fancy! We love pets so bring your dog or cat or parrot! Outside there is a boat dock and swimming/beach area, as well as a large yard and a panoramic view of the lake. Strawberry Fields is perfect for families and gatherings. It offers the ultimate in kid-friendly accommodations with its gently sloped access to the lake, and a large but flat backyard that is ideal for throwing Frisbee or playing croquet. There is a fire pit, a charcoal grill and plenty of chairs on the deck. Great place to watch the sunset!
This whimsical Monroe County getaway comfortably sleeps nine with a queen bed on the main floor, a queen, single bed and a trundle in the upstairs master bedroom, and a queen and single bed in the other upstairs bedroom.
It is conveniently located 11 miles from both Bloomington and Nashville. Note that after four guests there is an additional $7.50 per person charge. Check calendar for current prices, they fluctuate. 20 hours a week is spent on just this house cleaning, yard work, shoreline attention. We opened in 2001 and an average of $3000/ year has been spent on maintaining and improving property.
There is a shared dock, we might have our boat on one side and will come down to use it occasionally. The other side of the dock is available for a boat. The outdoor pool listed is actually the LAKE! There was no way to check for lake. We previously offered a hot tub but do not anymore, sorry.

Looking for a bachelor party / house for an away football game. This place was perfect. Didn’t realize there was a bar within walking distance which made it all the more awesome! Ping pong table was a perfect addition too!

Lake Lemon Stay
Great location and home. No hot tub as listed, not cleaned well, ceiling in kitchen leaked water when it rained. I cleaned everything I touched basically but this house would still be amazing for a low key summer break stay with friends to enjoy the lake.
We didn’t spend much time there do to having a wedding, very roomy and the view is amazing. I want to come back just to sit by the water with a cup of coffee in the morning and wine in evening
First things first-we LOOOOVE this little house. It’s charming and inviting and the absolutely perfect views and location. We had our daughter’s family which included our 9 & 10 year old grandsons with us the first night and they explored and played ping pong for HOURS! The second night we only had our 2 year old grand daughter and she explored and played with all the toys, and on the swing set. She did not want to leave. There were games and tv with several channels and a dvd player with a lot of movies. The AC was great and the beds and pillows were very comfortable (all 3 queen sizes were great) The 4 star rating for cleanliness is because much of it is dated and many of the dishes (washed by previous guests we’re assuming) were dirty and placed randomly in cabinets. We own a cabin and love it, this place feels more like that than a spic n span lake house. We prefer this however one of our guests didn’t stay. Because of it. If you’re wanting fancy, spotless place, this isn’t it. If you’re laid back, want cozy and great views with reasonable prices and walkability to a super cool bar/resturant, this is it! We even watched the IU rowing teams practice! Love it here!!
My family and I enjoyed our stay at Strawberry Fields Lake House. We loved the view that we had of Lake Lemon. Thought about returning for a third time.

It was okay
The house and property were nice with the water front but as we were there, the owner of the house kept popping up During our stay conversating and having an Attitude And then on the day of departure was 11 o'clock. And the owner was there at 9:30 in the morning. Watching us as we were cleaning up. Then also One of our friends we're walking on the deck and fell through As many things of this property were very old and not well maintained. We had fun but I would never stay there again
Great stay and so much fun in the water. Cute cozy cottage with great access and amenities to for enjoying the water.

Great Location - not so great accommodations
This home sits right on Lake Lemon with its own dock which was so convenient. The lake is beautiful and not too much traffic. You are required to anchor down and swim in designated areas but overall being in the water was fantastic.
The home has great bones - hardwood floors and pine walls and cabinets and a stone fireplace were so pretty. But the cleanliness and decor need improvement Both inside and outside the home was cluttered and not very clean. The lawn had not been maintained and weeds around things in the yard were extremely tall. Poison ivy and spiders about got us all!
We had a blast despite the home feeling chaotic and not very clean. There are so many eclectic decorations on walls and sitting around on shelves that the home itself felt chaotic. She has a diamond in the rough and some TLC and decluttering would make this home a 10. But as it sits we would not stay here again.
The lake view was beautiful. Great fishing.
Comfortable, pet friendly home. Owner was accomadating and reached out to let us know she was available if we had any needs. We had a great time here.
We loved the lake front house lots of room for the kids and stuff for them to do. Stores and stuff not to far to drive. Just very relaxing we enjoyed our stay. Thank you Sura for letting us stay in your house on the lake
Absolutely loved the outdoor space - double swing on the shore, fire pit, back deck off the dining room & kitchen, gorgeous view of the lake! Indoors is very 1960s - Beatles and LOTS of memorabilia from the time. If you're an old hippie, you'll love it. If you're fancy, not so much. It's all a matter of what you like. It was just fine for four women who were born in the early 1960s and raised on farms near a small town. Love the owner, honest and down to earth, great communication, very responsive to our requests. Lots of sleeping spaces for families and welcoming to pets. Enjoyed our time there.
Mouse and bug infestations cut ohr stay short. We are having trouble getting a refund that the host agreed to.

Great location - needs attention
The water is beautiful and the yard is nice - we wished we would have brought tents and just slept outside.
The house is old and old is ok - dirty is not. While i appreciate the work the owner puts into keeping up with the property, the home needs a professional deep clean.
The lake view was outstanding. The kayaks allowed us to see the lake and sounding area better. We had a great time.
We knew the place was an old farmhouse, but the house needs updating. There was a lot of stuff in the house which made it cluttered. My suggestion would be to remove most of the decorations in the living room and dining room to allow for space to congregate.
We needed a place with multiple bedrooms for family weekend at IU and this home provided us with everything we needed. It was a quick 20 minute drive to campus plus we had space for our family and dog and a great view of Lake Lemon. If you are looking for something fancy, this may not be your answer, but if you need space for extra people, a pet, and enjoy lake life, this may be for you.
Overall property exceeded our expectations. Photos don’t do it justice as the back lawn and beach area were much more accessible and fun filled then we thought it would be! There was a boat but we had been drinking so we didn’t take it out but I didn’t see that mentioned in the description. Overall a great time.
This house is what it says it is. The pictures and description are not misleading. It's an old, lived in lake house. My family and i had a great time. If you are the "camping" or "outdoorsy" type this house is probably your vibe.
We showed up on Friday and had no power until Sunday morning due to terrible storms in the area. The signal is...not great in the area, but when the power is on, there is wifi.
There are a bunch of water toys. We loved the kayaks that we were able to take back into the channels on Lake Lemon. There was also a great foam water mat that was awesome in the lake after a long day of hiking in the nearby national parks.
Despite not having power (which we were accommodated for), we had a great time. And Sura, the owner, came down and said hi and told us about the area. She handled the situation amazingly and I would definitely come back.
Tons of fun toys to play with on the lake
Walking distance to bar/restaurant
Huge flat lawn with dock on lake

Beach home
The location is beautiful, we had a good time, however, there were some issues. There is a large leak in the kitchen, looks like a major plumbing concern, water coming through the floor. The owner came right away and did try to resolve the issue, but it does need some attention. The cleanliness could be better. We appreciate that the character of the house is genuine and organic, however, it might need a little help.
The biggest issue was that we couldn’t find one smoke detector in this two story home. THAT is a big concern.
older house, lots of outdoor things to do, roomy enough for my family of 6

Not clean
The house was quaint and would’ve been nice of it were clean. Spider webs in the sink(along with the spider). Hair in the bathtub and the toilet was dirty. The hand soap as well as the dish soap bottles have been repeatedly refilled with a different soap to the point that the soap was discolored and the labels were coming off. We did love the big plate glass window overlooking the lake and nice deck. I understand how difficult it is to keep a rental clean, having cleaned them ourselves, but cleanliness is vital in a business like this. Also be aware that there is no dryer in the house if you want to do any laundry. Having paid so much for a three day stay, we were disappointed and left a day early.
Enjoy the comfort of this home, my dogs and friends really enjoy it 😊, peaceful and very calm place to stay.

About the host
Hosted by Sura Gail Tala
I moved here January 1984 after growing up at a lake 10 miles from the White House and was happy to find this unknown lake, almost abandoned and no one valued it. I started buying land and houses in the area, hanging onto them and slowly remodeling them.I have worked extremely hard to keep these houses and I continue to work hard keeping them going along with 4 other full time rentals and my mini farm and 34 acres of mostly wooded land. My partner found me in 2020 and he jumped right in to help maintain and improve it all!
Why they chose this property
I live near by and wanted a place to park my boat and swim so I use this house when guest are not there . I do go get my boat sometimes.
What makes this property unique
There are very few houses on this lake for rent and this is the only one with a great swimming area. It’s only 10 miles from IU and Bloomington and 11 miles from Nashville IN.
