About this property

Delightful Long Lake - Wonderful Frontage - 4 Kayaks, Dock, Fire-pit & Grill

Lakestone Cottage boasts a private dock on crystal blue Long Lake, with a sandy bottom at the shallow shoreline leading out to the pristine deep blue water. Perfect for adults, children and dogs. The spectacular sunset views, directly across the lake, and the calling of the loons create a seldom experienced serenity. The cottage, built in 1936, is one of the few original homes in the area, and the property is choice for all the right reasons! The well maintained, picturesque, modernized stone cottage, features a wood burning fireplace, wrap around picture windows to enjoy the water and sunset views, and a true retro kitchen to help recall the mid-century simpler, relaxed lifestyle. A completely remodeled bathroom, Roku provides Netflix, local news and other stations, along with wireless broadband access and central air conditioning provides the expected current necessities. The kitchen is also outfitted with a microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot, washer and dryer.

Long Lake Township, Traverse City, MI, Short Term Rental Ordinance states that only 1 boat may be moored, and while 4 persons may stay overnight another 2 are allowed to visit until 11:00 pm. This is not a party place!

2,900 acre Long Lake, just a 9 minute drive from downtown Traverse City, is known for it's walleye and perch fishing and one of the larger lakes in NW Michigan. 4 single seating kayaks and life-jackets are stored on site and ready for your use! Power boats, SUPs and pontoon boats are available locally, (with the best service and pricing), at Long Lake Boat Rental enabling you to enjoy all the amenities this beautiful lake has to offer. Not in the least of which are the 4 islands with sandy beaches and hiking trails waiting to be explored. Two marked moorings are provided at the end of the dock to moor a boat overnight and extra parking is adjacent to the garage for boat trailer parking. The Long Lake boat launch is just minutes away as shown on the map.

The fire ring near the shore beckons to be used for an enjoyable evening of roasting smores while watching the sunsets. There is also a hammock and extra seating throughout the lawn, as well as the patio chairs and tables. A gas grill and utensils also are on site to help provide quiet relaxation from a day of sight seeing, touring wineries/breweries, biking the trails, fishing, touring the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park, etc. No wonder National Geographic Magazine just voted the Grand Traverse area one of the top 10 family vacation spots in the world. Lakestone Cottage is the perfect home base for a week of exploring and playing hard with all that the area has to offer. (Or a sweet little hide-a-way for some quiet time.) Upon booking I can provide information on what will be happening throughout the area, as something is always going on!

All linens, full cooking and dining ware, coffee pot filters, dishwasher and laundry detergent, paper towels, tissues and TP are included to help accommodate your stay. Two full size grocery stores and a gas station is just 5 miles away. The 2 queen size beds which provide sleeping for 4 boast nice bedding and the bathroom towels are all of better quality.

One half down payment at time of reservation, balance due 30 days prior to stay.
June, July and August full week rentals only.
3 night minimum rest of the year. Note off-season special rates.

Perfect Long Lake Cabin Getaway
This adorable lake cabin was the perfect stay for our 3 night Traverse City trip. It has the most incredible lake views and water frontage. The outdoor living area offers several sitting areas, fire pit and brand new dock to watch the sunsets. The indoor living space had everything we needed and more. It’s conveniently located and easy to get to everything and everywhere. The owner was graciously available if needed. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Traverse City.

Nice Lakeside Stay
We booked a last minute up north stay here for a weekend. Pros: Great location overlooking the lake. Beautiful setting at sunset House was clean Furniture was comfortable Close to Traverse City, wineries, golf, restaurants... Cons: The only con was it was on a fairly busy road, although it didn't bother us much. We will definitely visit again!

Loved our stay at Lakestone Cottage
We loved our time at Lakestone Cottage! Here are some of the great things about it: The beds were very comfortable. My first couple of nights on a unfamiliar bed are usually pretty restless. I didn't have that problem at all - I slept well right from the very first night. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed, and even a few things we didn't think about but found very useful (some spices, chip clips, etc.). The AC kept up really well, and we were very comfortable during our stay. The water heater had impressive capacity. Four grown people showered right in a row, and none of us ever ran out of hot water. It was wonderful to have a garage to park in! The washer and dryer were super helpful, especially when we came in from the lake. We could pop our towels and suits in the dryer and they were all ready for the next time. The outside space was beautiful. We enjoyed making campfires in the fire pit, and the sunsets were beyond spectacular. It was also really nice to have some yard space where we could play yard games as a family. Lastly, Cathy was an incredible host! She was very accommodating, and made the entire stay so easy.

Lovely Cottage
My family absolutely enjoyed our relaxing long weekend visit to this sweet cottage! It has been thoughtfully appointed with pretty much everything you could need to feel right at home! The kitchen is fully stocked with supplies, even plastic baggies and plastic wrap. As a lady I especially appreciated the cosmetic mirror in the bathroom, as I forgot mine as home! The setting and aesthetic of the cottage is serene and allows for great family memories! Cathy was a helpful host and easy to communicate with. She even offered ideas of local kid friendly attractions when we had rainy weather. Between the many board/card games and Roku my family had plenty of entertainment when we were indoors. Overall we had a great weekend trip and I highly recommend Cathy’s lovely cottage!

Lovely stone cottage
Cottage was clean and well appointed. Lake was lovely, clear and warm. There is very fast moving traffic on the road which was a little concerning so we kept our dog on a leash in the yard facing the lake. Owner was very responsive and nice.

Perfect Peace
I can not recommend Lakestone Cottage enough! It has the character of when it was built and all the modern conveniences. The decor is so well matched, you will think you’re in a magazine. I was thrilled to be able to bring my dog, as was she. It is very private and quiet - so peaceful! This sweet stone cottage is on Long Lake, where I’ve been coming since I was 7 years old. It is so close to Interlochen and Traverse City for amazing entertainment and and true treats for every foodie! The owner is so accommodating and thoughtful. You will love it! Just don’t take my week!

Amazing Sunsets/ Amazing Big Lake
Entering LakeStone Cottage I was transported back to my 50s & 60s childhood at Morrison Lake where my parents owned a simple cottage perched on an embankment inviting cool breezes on hot summer days and cool nights. No a/c needed but instead a fire pit to warm by as you view beautiful sunsets & silhouettes of sail boats gliding across the water. The cottage, from a much earlier era, offers the “original open concept” living with a welcome updated/ remodeled bathroom. I giggled noticing the boomerang pink Formica kitchen countertop my own mother picked out when remodeling in 1959. A brand new propane grill sat proudly on the inviting patio area which we took full advantage of for our dinner meals. Descending the steep hill we could see warm shallow water below w/ 4 kayaks. There’s no “beach” per se but one can wade out along the estimated 128’ long dock and still be only chest high. We rented also a pontoon from Rick White “Up North Boat Rental” so we could Sun ourselves without taking the boat out, which we did of course. It’s a BIG LAKE! We pontooned around the lake at about 10 -15 mph and it took 2 1/2 hrs! Other days we boated to Island sand bars where my adult daughter and I paddled around on floaty chairs while our hubs “yanked some lip” hoping to snag a big walleye like displayed on the cottage wall. The only negative was the actual year being 2022, not 1950, was evidenced by the once sleepy less traveled South Long Lake Rd now a well-traveled paved road. So I dared not let my well-behaved Papichon 15 yo pup off lead when outdoors and impressing on everyone the need to assure the storm doors were latched. My suggestions: Bring a good book to read, use the hammock in the garage to string between the two trees near the edge of the embankment, there’s lots of eateries in TC BUT eating at Boone’s Long Lake Inn is a must and only 1 mile away! Shop at Tom’s Grocery.. great cuts of meat. They don’t have a butcher counter BUT accommodated by cutting/trimming 4 - 1 1/4” thick steaks. If you are really into cooking just know essentials are on site but gourmet cooks should bring their favorite spices and even a well-seasoned pan. Mine are “Chicago Steak, Kickin Chicken, Worcestershire Sauce, sea salt and Cholupa sauce.” I was glad I brought a small small bottle of EEVO, and my fav pan for frying eggs, potatoes or searing a steak on a rainy day. Turn off the TV, phones & UNPLUG. I challenge you to enjoy 1950 life!

Great experience!
Lakestone Cottage is just what you need for a great vacation. The cottage is clean, beautifully decorated, nicely appointed kitchen (loved the retro look!), updated bathroom, semi-private shady lot with unobtrusive neighbors, lots of things in the garage to make your outdoor cooking and water adventures perfect for every age group. The lake is clear with a sandy bottom, the ladder on the dock makes getting into the water easy, and it was fun to sit on the patio with our dog and watch the boats go by. The road is busier than we thought it would be, but it was not an issue, and being able to park in the garage was a welcome surprise. Lots of restaurants and golf close-by. Cathy was a very responsive property owner, making check-in and check-out very easy. We highly recommend.

Great stay!
The lake is beyond awesome!! This is the best lake we have ever visited. Crystal clear water, great swimming, awesome islands. The cottage is super close to Traverse city which is nice. Also close to attractions such as cherry picking, peninsulas, etc. We did take walks to the nature area that is very close and that was great too. The cottage is by the road though, which made us a bit wary of our dog running off, so this is something to watch out. But besides that we fully enjoyed it, it was amazing! My husband even made friends with an elderly neighbor after I managed to drive a bit too much on his grass sigh. Otherwise the cottage was super clean and had everything we needed. Thank you for the stay!!!

Great cottage on the lake. Hidden in the trees. Amazingly private, even though there are neighbors on both sides. Owner keeps the place immaculate, and well supplied with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is obvious she cleans the place herself, and has furnished the cabin with genuine Northern Michigan decor.

Having married my Pontiac Central High School sweet heart in 1973 we both had the same goal to escape the rat race and move "Up North" which we accomplished in 1978. With both of us being licensed builders there was plenty of opportunity to provide a good living and life style for our 3 Empire, Michigan born children. Living in rural Leelanau County, the "little finger" of Michigan, required and instilled a good work ethic. Now in my 60's and widowed I maintain both the cottage and my residence in Glen Arbor and feel grateful to be able to do so which allows me to share Lakestone Cottage with visitors and family.

Why they chose this property

I would find myself "in town" grocery shopping in Traverse City weekly and always admired the little stone cottage on Long Lake. In observing throughout the decades the quaint neighboring residences being torn down to build larger lakefront homes, there still remained the wonderful stone cottage! When the last of the cottage's original family moved out of the area and the house was put on the market, my husband and I purchased it the following day. Little did we know he would pass away a few years later, leaving me a sweet little rental place to supplement my income. Lakestone Cottage is run and operated in a professional manner. I am available 24/7 and reside 20 miles away. My goal is to assure visitors an enjoyable, stress-less stay. I have enjoyed doing all the communications, book keeping, cleaning and maintenance and have been blessed to have such wonderful guests.

What makes this property unique

Lakestone is on the "quiet" end of Long Lake. Pontoon and ski boats are used in this southern end but not many jet skis and loud race boats. 4 of the islands are for public use with some providing docking and trails throughout. The lake bottom is pure sand and very clean. Many of the newer houses being built are located closer to the lake but provide little, if any, yard for use. It is so nice to sit around the fire pit, under the oaks, while enjoying the sunsets with plenty of yard space for children and/or dogs.
