About this property

Oceanfront Cottage with Incredible Views and Deck, 2 minutes to beach

If you are looking for a remote, yet well-located retreat, this gorgeous, cedar-shingled Cape Breton cottage is perfect for a memorable getaway. It is perched high above the ocean with epic views and sea sounds. These are some of the most spectacular vistas in all of Cape Breton: endless ocean, beach and Sea Wolf Island (framed perfectly, as if for your personal pleasure!) You don't just enjoy the views- you hear the ocean beside you, lapping at the rocks below, sometimes crashing; it's almost hypnotizing. Check our short video in the "Photos" section.

In the cottage, summer evenings are cool –great for sleeping– often with brilliant sunsets. Outside, the large deck with its lovely cascading stairs, is positioned perfectly for spotting lobster boats, eagles, moose, bobcats, and the whales which pass by most of the year, and from where you’ll catch dramatic sunsets and panoramic views. Beaches? Hiking? Fine Dining? Music? All close at hand…

TumbleSea cottage changes over on Fridays. Charming and comfortable, the open-plan living space features beams and vaulting ceilings that lend it a bright and airy feel, with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area surrounded by windows for spectacular views. Finished with both rustic and contemporary furnishings and decor, the cottage is welcoming and homey, with one cozy bedroom for two.

There’s all the kitchen equipment you need to prepare a feast from local specialties. You will love the supple leather couch in the living room, which is the perfect spot for connecting with friends, (which is easier than ever, with a fast fibre op internet/ wifi connection).

Dig into a good book, or just gaze out to sea. You can watch storms develop on the horizon, and play themselves out before they ever reach you. As evening turns to night, relax and take in the starry night skies, and steady cadence of the flashing light of the island lighthouse.

Nestled amongst trees, roses and the water, TumbleSea cottage offers complete privacy, complete comfort, and an unforgettable week. All this on a beautiful property with spring-fed brooks, just minutes from three great beaches and the Cabot Trail, a half hour from the National Park; less than thirty minutes north of the cottage, the Park has an extensive network of hiking trails, including the Skyline Trail that overlooks the Gulf, as well as dramatic waterfalls, rivers and highlands.

TumbleSea is just twenty minutes from two of the world’s finest golf courses at Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs (respectively ranked by Golf Digest at #39 and #10 in the world). There are also great restaurants and music venues within 30 minutes.

Gorgeous oceanside cottage getaway
TumbleSea was unquestionably the finest Vrbo rental we've experienced thus far. Nestled in a charming location with a captivating view of the water, the cottage provided us with endless enchantment as we relaxed on the deck or in the cottage, gazing at the water and the sky. The cottage itself was impeccably clean and exuded a warm, cozy ambiance. What truly set our stay apart was Stuart's exceptional attentiveness to our comfort and overall experience on this beautiful island. His meticulous directions to the cottage were so well-written that we easily located the property late at night, despite the darkness and the looming Hurricane Lee (thankfully reduced to a storm by the time we arrived). Stuart also generously offered superb recommendations for things to do and see on the island. For outdoor enthusiasts, the numerous breathtaking trails in the area are a must-explore. Highlands National Park is very close and the Cabot Trail just a few minutes away. Moreover, the local seafood scene was truly outstanding! The cottage's well-stocked kitchen provided us with all the essential utensils for preparing breakfast, along with a diverse assortment of basic spices and supplies to suit our needs. Cape Breton has completely won us over, and we would eagerly choose to stay at TumbleSea again without hesitation. We wholeheartedly endorse this rental – it's an absolute gem!

Did you ever walk into your accommodations and drop your jaw and high five your mate. This cottage is a total score. Its located equally between the National Park and world class golf at Inverness. Two thumbs up! The proprietor is very nice, easy going and very helpful in terms of points of interest. You would be hard pressed to do better.

great location
The photos tell the story — a cosy and comfortable cottage in a great setting. Good for anyone looking for "ocean" proximity and privacy. The place is very thoughtfully appointed and comfortable although there were a few components which we felt needed replacement because of evident wear or functionality (eg. the bedroom dresser, the "back" door, the rusted lounger chairs). These weren't deal breakers but considering the price point, such improvements would give it a notable refresh. The main downside is not the cottage itself but how far away Cape Breton is relative to large East coast cities. (If we were to do it again, we'd fly in and rent a car.)

This cozy cottage has great views of the ocean and Chimney Corner beach. The Chimney Corner location is also perfect for spending time anywhere along the west coast, especially the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Inverness, and Margaree. The hosts are fabulous and responsive to every need. Thank you Stewart!

Beyond Expectations!
My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Tumble Sea in early September 2022. We were sad to leave this cozy, warm, comfortable, well equipped cottage that has to have one of the best views on Cape Breton and is in a great convenient location minutes from a lovely beach. Stepping out on the expansive deck upon arrival and throughout our stay was a joyful experience with stunning views, spectacular sunsets and seal and porpoise sightings. The Kitchen is well furnished and has everything you need, bath towels are soft, bed is comfortable, lots of good books to read and browse through. Stewart (owner/host) left us a warm welcoming note and spent almost an hour with us in person providing an orientation to the cottage and reliable recommendations to local restaurants, suggestions for great hiking trails on the island, and music venues for the beautiful Celtic music that any visitor must seek out. He is a very nice man who takes pride in his cottage and Cape Breton. Overall, our stay was a wonderful experience and Cape Breton is a gorgeous Island. We would come back to Tumbe Sea in a heartbeat. It was one of our best getaways ever and even with all the previous positive reviews it was far beyond expectations.

Spectacular!!
We had an amazing two weeks at Chimney Corner. The cottage is cozy, clean and well-equipped. It has a quaint yet modern feel to it, and is isolated and quiet, which was exactly what we were looking for. The silence was beautiful. The expansive deck provides lots of space to relax, read and take in the view. And the view…well, simply spectacular. Perched on a cliff, the cottage looks out onto beautiful ocean as far as the eye can see. The sunsets were a nightly extravaganza. With the windows open at night, you could hear the waves crashing below, which lulled us to sleep. The surrounding area offers endless opportunities for swimming (the nearby sandy beach is gorgeous), hiking, running, and sightseeing (the Cabot trail is a five minute drive away — it’s everything it’s cracked up to be). Our drive to White Point was breathtaking, rivalling a similar drive we took in Corsica some years ago. Make sure you visit the Dancing Goat cafe for the amazing coffee and sandwiches. And finally, Stewart was a gracious and helpful host, always there for us but not overbearing. In short, it was one of the best vacations of our lives. Cape Breton is one of Canada’s best-kept secrets, and Chimney Corner is a treasure. We will be back!

Splendide

Peaceful Tranquility
After my retirement I spent two weeks at the cottage in late May / early June to unwind, slow down, and clear my head a bit. What a beautiful experience! The TumbleSea cottage is a wonderful place to take in the ocean breeze, see amazing sunsets (and sunrises too), and I don't think I've ever seen the stars so bright. Stewart, the host, took the time to fill me in on places to go and see on Cape Breton, and his suggestions, especially for off-the beaten-path ideas, really helped make it a memorable experience. I highly recommend the Kauzmann Trail in the early morning--spectacular, and even better in my opinion than the popular Skyline Trail. Thanks to Stewart & Bell for an awesome stay at their beautiful cottage by the sea!!

Cozy and Romantic TumbleSea Cottage
TumbleSea Cottage in Chimney Corner, Nova Scotia is a clean, comfortable, inviting cottage with a breathtakingly beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. The cottage is cozy and a bit romantic, with it's private setting just steps from the sea and the accompanying sounds of ocean waves crashing below. Over coffee on the deck our first morning in the cottage we were greeted by an Eagle that happened to be flying along the coastline cliffs. The location of the cottage is just off the Cabot Trail and is convenient to a number of small fishing villages and the amazingly beautiful Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Each day featured a new adventure somewhere in Cape Breton, but we always made it back to our lovely cottage in time to witness the stunning sunsets. We can't wait to return to TumbleSea again.

Abbreviated Stay But We'll Be Back!
The property is lovely and the surroundings are stunning. The place was clean and well appointed. Take heed of the "must see" tips that host Stewart presents. We arrived several days late and had we not listened to Stewart we would have missed some great sites in favor of more touristy attractions. The national park, not far away, is absolutely stunning. We plan to come back when we can stay the whole week and take it all in properly!

Spectacular Gem on Cape Breton Ocean Coast
My family and I spent an unforgettable week at this fantastic cottage at Cape Breton's Ocean Coast. As you can tell from the photos, the view is simply spectacular. But what even the photos can't capture is how this place perfectly encapsulates the dramatic beauty of Cape Breton Island. Whether during a peaceful day when the boundless ocean sparkles gently under the sun, or during an Atlantic Storm when the water tumbles and crashes with the wind -- you look out the window, and the sea is right there, with all its sweeping fragrance and engulfing majesty, and all your worldly worries are washed away. Even more incredible than the cottage itself, is Stewart as a host. He takes time to meet with every single one of his guests, giving them all his detailed knowledge of the best and most unique gems that the island has to offer. His guest guidebook is an enchiridion of all the essences of the island. In all our years with vacation rentals, we have never met a host quite like Stewart. His passion and dedication for this beautiful island and his craft are simply unmatched. When you look out of the cottage, you see the art of nature unfolding before your eyes. When you look within, you feel the art of a host making this magical experience happen for you. In our opinion, Stewart’s Cape Breton cottage is a must-have Cape Breton and Nova Scotia experience in and of itself. Thank you so much Stewart for having us. All the best, Vivian & Victoria

My husband and I spent the week here for our honeymoon. It was the perfect location! It was secluded and private with lots to do just a short drive away on the days we wanted. The views of the ocean during the day and stars at night were breath taking. Stewart was an amazing host, giving us lots of suggestions to do in the area. He took time to meet and orient us and answered any questions we had promptly. The property was gorgeous and the cottage had everything you might need. Can't not say enough good about this place! We've never said WOW so often!
It is true... this property has a huge WOW factor and my wife and I literally said WOW multiple times every day we were there. In fact, the entire west coast of Cape Breton is spectacular. As all the other reviews indicate, Stewart, the owner was fantastic and super helpful providing great insights and ideas on areas to explore. The arrival and departure process was flawless and everything was handled in a very respectful and professional manner. The cottage is fully equipped and exceptionally clean - just what you need for a peaceful getaway. And the pictures actually don't do justice to this cottage and the location. As great as these pictures are, it is so much better when you get here. The views are amazing and are constantly changing... even when the weather was a bit blustery, especially with gusty winds from the west, the waves and the sounds of the ocean just add to the atmosphere. This is, without a doubt, one of the most magnificent cottages for two in all of Nova Scotia. Thank you, Stewart, for an amazing stay and we hope to be back next summer.

Wonderful Memories
This is a beautiful property. We enjoyed our week here very much in large part to the helpfulness of Stewart and his recommendations. He goes out of his way to ensure you have knowledge of the area and local restaurants, etc. The cottage itself is just what you see on line. It's extremely comfortable and well equipped. Its hard to describe just how beautiful the view is until you see it for yourself. Here are just a few of the places we visited and ate at: the Mabou farmer's market on Sunday mornings is great with lots of local products, baked items, local crafts and music. Playing golf at Cabot Cliffs is a round that will always be remembered; we found several lovely pieces of sea glass on Inverness Beach; driving the Cabot Trail and lunch at Salty Rose's (try the crab salad sandwich); the Dancing Goat Cafe (twice); Helen's bakery located inside the Co-Op (the oat cakes and Porridge bread are so good). It was just a wonderful week overall and provided us with some wonderful memories.

I have been living here for more than 20 years, and Bell grew up in Cape Breton, in Margaree Valley, just 20 minutes away. We met in art school in Halifax, and after living in New York for a few years, we moved back here permanently in 1997. We both love Cape Breton, which comes alive in June and the weather stays awesome until October. There are plenty of beautiful places to explore here, even if you have lived here for 20 years!

Why they chose this property

I built the cottage in 2015-16; there was a dramatic spot on the property with spectacular views. It is a lovely location with wild roses all around, juniper vines and fabulous unobstructed views of the ocean. The views of the ocean, Chimney Corner Beach, and Sea Wolf/Margaree Island are simply amazing. There is also all of the privacy one could want. This building is a perfect getaway for a couple; there's just nothing else like this cottage in Cape Breton. There's a real sense of romance and intimacy here, a multi-level deck, which is stunning- what an incredible panorama stretching out before you! You hear the sounds of the ocean all of the time- really a soothing thing.

What makes this property unique

Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and the scenery on this stretch of coast is particularly striking; the mountains, dramatic plunging cliffs and ocean make a stunning combination. it can also be dramatic, with 130 kph winds at many points of the year. The ocean is warm enough for swimming in the summer, and we see some of the most dramatic sunsets anywhere, watch whales play in our front yard, and fishermen haul their lobster traps each year. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars.

You are also close to the Cabot Trail (5 minutes), the National Park (25 minutes), and other towns and villages (5-15 minutes). If you are a golfer, you are close to Cabot Links & Cliffs in Inverness, which offer one of the great and unique golf experiences in North America. Cabot Cliffs is now ranked 9th in the world (!!) and was developed by Ben Cowan-Dewar and Mike Keiser (who developed Bandon Dunes in Oregon). The acclaim for Cabot so far is pretty much unanimous-from the New York Times to Golf Digest.

You can also take advantage of local restaurants, eat freshly cooked lobster or crab, and be only a short distance from one of the best hiking networks outside the Park, between Mabou and Inverness. There's also a fantastic boardwalk in Inverness, only 18 minutes away, which winds its way along the oceanfront, beach and golf course. Check out renowned crafters in the area; quilting, rug hooking, and folk art can all be found locally.
