Doing Life Together 2022

Beautiful, spacious, relaxing, fabulous place to stay. Roomy enough for our group of 30 adults and 20 kids. Thankful for the early arrival check-in time. Everything was in order. Games in entertainment room are pretty old and missing pieces; television remotes needed batteries, we couldn't get the game room TV to work for a kids movie night but the fire pit made up for it :) The hot tub was not working :( We had an amazing time and would do it again!

First Family Reunion

My family and I were wowed by the sheer size of the property. The rooms were well accommodated, bathrooms clean and stocked with fresh linens and soaps. The kitchen has everything you need to cook big meals. We primarily used the gas propane grill for its ease of use. There is a very large charcoal grill if you feel the need to throw on 8 rack of ribs! The ice machine in the bar came in clutch when we took a trip to the lake near by (less than 10min drive). The parking lot is an easy short walk down to the lake. We spent most of the time on the bottom floor, cooking and catching up with distant relatives. Remember to post a sign outside the doors so strangers do not walk in. =) The grassy yard area is where 3 epic rounds of dodge ball went down. That was a highlight for sure. We were able to take some memorable family photos on the deck also! There is so much I can go on and on about this place that probably has been covered by others. This hotel fit the bill for any large gatherings, reunions & weddings. The only thing that needs improving is the WiFi connection is not that good. They are looking into improving this! Steve and Angela were great hosts, they were prompt and accommodating. Overall my family had a wonderful time and cannot wait for another reunion. (35 adults + 15 kids) We will keep the Union Hotel in mind for our future reunions or possibly weddings!

Great trip!

Really awesome place - well taken care of and great for large groups! The check in process wasn't very clear, but we figured it out by chatting w/ some people at the bar. Rob was a great property manager and very responsive to any issues/questions. Would stay again!

Family Reunion

Excellent property for a large family (33) reunion...commercial size/equipped kitchen was superb with EVERYTHING needed to prepare multiple daily meals! Eating area easily seated our entire group and the saloon was provided a special touch of nostalgia, drink coolers, and fun with the shuffleboard table. The on-deck hot tub was perfect for easy access to the house and private. Outside space was great for kids to play. A geat property that met all of our needs for a fun-filled reunion!

Best rental property for large groups EVER!

We have been coming to The Union Hotel for over 11 years and in those 11 years, we have stayed there at least 20 times! Yes, we come twice in one year! It literally is the best place to stay for large groups. Jay & Charese, the managers, are the BEST and take such good care of everything you need. The hotel is very well kept, very clean and so much fun! The kitchen is stocked full of everything you could possibly need for cooking - just add food & fun! The bedrooms are comfortable, each with their own full bathrooms. The beds are comfy and warm. The bar area is so cool - everything you need is taken care of there. Overall, I give the Union Hotel a 10 out of 10 stars. SO much to do in the area both in the summer & winter! You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here!

What a great old hotel

We had a family reunion with about thirty folks coming from all over the country. We wanted a place away from the big cities and typical tourist areas to encourage family mingling rather than everyone off in small groups to casinos or big city attractions. La Porte was ideal for us - very remote with a beautiful lake nearby for swimming and lots of trails for hiking. You do have to remember to bring everything you're going to need since its a long haul to the nearest large town. There is a small general store a half block away which has some essentials but plan on bringing everything you're going to need. The hotel itself is absolutely first rate. The kitchen is modern and enormous - two large refrigerators, two dishwashers, plenty of pots, pans and utensils. The dining area will seat everyone. Every room is spotless. There's no air conditioning but there are plenty of fans to go around. There was one gentleman with us who had to use the single room on the first floor designated for folks with disabilities and the staff brought in a folding bed to accommodate his wife. Cherise, who manages the place, is a delightful person who can usually be found at the general store. If you want glitz, glamour, restaurants and crowds this is not for you. If you want a clean, fully functional facility in an out-of-the-way place in the country, this is it.

GREAT Place to stay for a big getaway!!! Loved it!

Hello all, I rented this place for our Couch Family Reunion that we have been doing the reunion every 3rd summer for the last 40 years! and this place was GREAT! I had 48 Family members stay for the week of June 26 - 30, 2017! To have a place with 22 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms was so great. The entire family loved it from the perfect location, amazing kitchen and dinning room, to the old Union Bar! I hope to go back very soon and hope to have some more family time. The lake is just a few miles away with some very nice beach's and next time I'm bringing a boat! With all the rain and snow this last year the lake is full and perfectly blue water! The union bar on the first floor of Union Hotel/Retreat Center has a big cooler for drinks and a full ice maker for everything needed! Great beds throughout from Kings, Queens, Fulls and some twin/full bunk beds! LOVED IT!! Jimmy

We had a wonderful Family Reunion at the Union Hotel!! The accommodations were better than the pictures reflected. The lake is a short drive from the hotel with a boat ramp, picnic areas and a beach. We will definitely be back!

Wedding weekend shenanigans

We had our wedding here in June and we brought up all the food and drinks for the weekend. Like the Buerhings said, this place has everything you need to host an event. They told us they had a fully stocked kitchen, but many times that means old pans, dull knives, and a whatever else they find at garage sales. That is not the case here! Of all the serving platters, serving spoons, coffee urns, ice chests we brought up, we only used our chaffing dishes and wedding decorations. All our guests were blown away with the hotel. Everyone doubted the location as they made the drive up, but once they got there, they were amazed and kept asking how we found this place. I do wish we stayed for 3 nights, so we could spend a day exploring and fishing. We have a few guest already making plans to come up again. Things to know - Kitchen really is fully stocked with matching plates, cups, knives, serving platters/bowls, kitchen tools, misc spices - Bar has 2 or 3 fridge/coolers, drinking glasses, and shot glasses - 2nd floor rooms have bathtub/shower while 3rd floor rooms have standing showers - No inside dishes and cups can go outside, so bring your own if you plan to eat outside - Use the Queen room for the guest of honor - Put door signs on the rooms to help your guests find their rooms - They have irons, ironing boards, and a steamer. - Consider placing the night owls in the even numbered rooms that face the deck - Prep as much of the food you can before you arrive

Union Hotel, La Porte, CA

I rented the hotel for two nights to celebrate my wife's birthday. 20 couples total and everyone had a fantastic time. Laura (manager) was fabulous and made sure we had everything we needed. We will be back! A truly unique experience and ideal for a family gathering or great group of friends.

Awesome wedding venue!

My husband and I got married here September of 2014 and it was the perfect wedding venue! We were so pleased when we found it. The hotel has everything you need for a weekend getaway. We were able to house all of our guests for a weekend of celebration and people are still talking about it! The rooms are all cozy with their own private bathrooms. When guests got tired they could escape to their rooms for the night. Plenty of grill space for an easy rehearsal dinner and kitchen large enough for lots of helpers. They have everything in the kitchen you would need AND two dishwashers to clean it all. Dining room has georgous wood tables and can hold large parties comfortably. The lawn area was perfect for a wedding and they have chairs onsite if needed. The bar was perfect for dancing and games. The manager was so helpful and accessible if we had any questions. This hotel is an amazing place to stay! I cannot say enough good things, we truly had an amazing weekend! We can't wait to head back for another weekend!

Great Retreat!

Wow! This venue was perfect for our retreat! I am the Activities Directer at our high school and our Council consists of 39 students and we went up for our winter retreat. Not only was the hotel everything we needed and more, the owners were super nice and easy to work with. They greeted us at our arrival and were very helpful throughout our stay. The kitchen is simply wonderful and the hot tub was a great bonus that they kids really enjoyed. Our morning workouts were great too. The area is beautiful and there are plenty of options for on and off road activities. The only thing that was iffy for us was the internet. It was a little slower than we were used to and a bit touch and go, but it was great to see the students "unplug" for a while too. This place gets a solid two thumbs up! We'll be going back again.

Great wedding venue!!

We recently rented the union hotel for our wedding... And let me tell you the perfect wedding venue! Not only is the kitchen set up for food prep, and has enough counter space that we were able to set up our buffet line! The dining room was big enough for our 75+ guest ! The grass area was perfect for our ceremony, the hotel even had 100 of there own chair for the ceremony. My guest were all blown away with the natural beauty of the hotel. Most of Our guest stayed the night which made it easy to have a great time. All the rooms have there own bathroom. I do have to mention that the manager was so helpful, she communicated with me for months until the wedding, answering all my questions, and theweekend of the wedding was on site and extremely helpful! I am so happy we decided to rent the hotel for our wedding, and all my guest have said " best wedding ever" !

A great get-away!

Our church group recently stayed at this hotel for our annual outing. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Commercial grade kitchen is awesome and large enough for a group of us cooking and preparing food together. The hotel managers were very helpful and friendly. On the day of arrival, the hotel managers were supposed to get off work by 7pm. However, due to traffic, our first car did not arrive until 9pm. They waited for us without having dinner and walked us through everything. We were so touched! Everyone enjoyed the stay and felt three days passing by so quickly. We wish we could stay longer. A side note: There are 11 bathrooms based on the website descriptions, so I thought in average two rooms share a bathroom. Wrong! Every hotel room has its own bathroom. The 11 bathrooms must mean public bathrooms.

One of the coolest hotels and areas

This was our companies 13th year at the Union Hotel for our company retreat. Each year has surpassed the the previous. The staff that run the hotel do a wonderful job of making sure the facilities are in top shape and that our trip goes as planned. The bar area and kitchen have to be my favorite areas of the hotel. I am an amateur photographer so this area is heaven to me. Every year I have been I can find new trails and areas to sight see and photograph. The rivers/streams with their deep swimming holes provide a fun (but cold) place to relax. The lake is also a beautiful place to see. The water is crystal clear (and cold as well). Basically, if my company were to decide to do our retreat elsewhere...I would find a reason to go to this hotel/area for a vacation anyway.

Simply Amazing!

This, by far, is one of my most favorite places to vacation! The hotel is quaint and very cozy. It was very easy to feel right at home here. Everyone was so nice and eager to help you find your way around. It was great to be able to sit out on the back deck at night and see all the beautiful stars and just enjoy nature. The scenery is simply amazing! I will most definitely make it back to The Union Hotel in the near future!

Very Relaxing!

My husband and myself wanted to get away for a week. To find some relaxation. We decided to stay at The Union Hotel in La Porte... I must say this option was PERFECT~ It sits in the middle of this friendly small town, you are not just stuck in your hotel room you have access to everything, large deck with swings on the back porch, hot tub, we even played horseshoes. On the back of the property there is a green grass area with a porch and beded rock path. This scene would be perfect to even have your weeding at. ..... The staff make you feel right at home... beds were comfortable. You still have a family room downstairs to watch tv, read, visit etc... Now this hotel is close to a nice lake, many people were swimming, brought paddle boats out, wave runners etc. We went down to the lake and ate lunch one day. If you enjoy taking pictures you will take tons here.. Take a ride down/up the hill you will see soo much stuff, the rivers, hills, trees, just very pretty..... If you are looking for a place to go I would def refer you to this Hotel... I will be back....
