Time was spent with family around the campfire and trout fishing the streams around the area. The cabin was ideal. We had everything we could ask for ... thank you Barry for sharing your cabin and beautiful property with us.
Another memorable stay at Bear Creek Retreat.
Our family has become regular visitors. Peaceful surroundings, beautiful location & cozy cabin! Couldn’t ask for more! Thank you!
Barry’s cabin was exactly what we needed! It was a beautiful cabin on an exceptional property. A comfortable, rustic, well taken care of cabin in a picturesque valley in Amish country. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing getaway, then this is the place for you….
This is our fourth stay and we have such a blast every time. The property is beautiful, the kids love exploring the creek, and we love relaxing outside. It’s always incredibly clean and well maintained, and Barry is great to work with. I hope for many more long summer weekends at Bear Creek in the future!
We had an amazing stay at the Bear Creek Retreat. The property was very well maintained and comfortable. Great views, fire pit, and trails along the creek helped make it a very enjoyable and memorable trip. Thank you!
Wonderfully placed along a sparkling creek in an ocean of corn and vivid autumn landscapes, this cabin is clean and welcoming! It had everything we needed! Luscious sofa where all 5 of us mothers/daughters could sit and chat, all things for cooking and eating, plenty of comfortable beds and blankets, nice shower, and we enjoyed the indoor gas fireplace and outdoor firepit complete with sunsets. Everything worked. We felt right at home and I'd love to go back (like right now!). The host is great, too. We had a fun visit in nearby Viroqua: farmers' market and vintage shops, but took extra time to relax at the cabin.
Enjoyed staying a Bear Creek, beautiful home with a great fireplace and lots of room for the dogs to run! Quiet and private jet close to so much in the valley. This is a second stay and we will definitely be back!
What a wonderful place to relax and enjoy family time! Barry has thought of everything. Plenty of room, more than enough beds, wonderful fire pit, stunning views, and meandering trails through the property. Thanks for sharing your little slice of heaven!
We have stayed here several times over the years and it’s always a wonderful relaxing time in nature. The owner keeps it pristine and updated, and for those who treasure the simple pleasures of life and nature, as well as fishing and other outdoor experiences, it is a gem of a cabin and locale.
We consider this property our happy place! Our family gathers here for the weekend to enjoy the beautiful landscape around the cabin, fishing, & campfires for roasting brats & marshmallows. Our family truly looks forward to this every year. Memories in the making. Barry is a great host and is very attentive. Highly recommended!
The Kickapoo Valley Retreat is the perfect spot for your Driftless adventures. The cabin is clean and roomy, easily accommodated our family of five. The location is perfect. I caught a 12” brown trout within 100 feet of the front door. On our last day we saw a pair of trumpeter swans.
We will definitely be back.
We liked our stay so much in 2023 that we returned for 2024. Fished a host of nearby trout streams all weekend. The lodge was great, comfortable, stocked with firewood and kitchen supplies. The host Barry was very responsive and helpful. We plan on returning for another trip in the future.

About the host
Hosted by Barry Donovan
The Kickapoo Valley has a special place in our hearts as we grew up here and came back to raise our family in this beautiful area. We have three grown boys who love to visit and enjoy the Kickapoo Valley and all it has to offer. We love to share this unique property with family and friends and welcome you to join us too.
Why they chose this property
We purchased this piece of land several years ago from friends and neighbors, and built the cabin bit by bit over the years with the help of many friends, family, and local craftsmen. We enjoy it's beauty and want to share it with you!
What makes this property unique
This setting is like no other. We have a top quality trout stream steps from the front door. Abundant wildlife in every season. The views are gorgeous all around. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the porch, watching the wildlife, hearing the sounds of Bear Creek trickling by, enjoying a fire in the fire pit after dark, and just relaxing.
