Construction noise

Noisy site with many motor bikes coming and going day and night with the gate light going off and on shining in the bedroom. No sleep. Pillows are old worn. And dirty. Construction tile saws running all day.

Beautiful Location

Lots of wildlife viewed from patio and the gardens are beautiful and well maintained. There is a second rental on the property and another in the process of being built (no work during our stay although the neighbor was having construction done on his property). Thomas was accommodating and responsive when minor issues occurred. Body soap and shampoo are not provided. While there is no AC, standing fans worked well for cooling for sleeping. Overall would definitely stay here again!

Family Vacation

This property is excellent! The biodiversity of the area was in full display at all times. It was peaceful and isolated with the sound of the ocean constantly present. If we wanted great food we only had to walk a short distance to numerous restaurants. The beach is equally as accessible. Thomas was a great host and took the time to give us a few ideas of things we might enjoy in the area. I highly recommend this property.

Great place!

The house is well kept, extremely close to the beach. Then interior is nice and you have everything you need in the house. You can walk to the beach and it's also very close to town.

Responsive Service

We arrived early and were allowed to check in, which was very helpful to us. We asked for an extra fan and this was also received. We appreciated this as it was very, very warm during our stay. The location being right on the beach was super convenient. We rented the bikes on the property and this was the ideal way to get around. Grocery stores and several good restaurants were very close. There was even a locally owned fruit stand at the end of our street. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

AMAZING!!

Five of us stayed here for 18 days. What an amazing place. Had the best time. So close to the beach, landscaping is beautiful and location was perfect. After 18 days, none of us wanted to leave. I would HIGHLY recommend this wonderful place.

Beautiful and convenient location

The house was amazing! It had everything we needed for our two week stay. The setting was beautiful and you could hear the ocean from the master bedroom. You will wake up to the monkeys every morning so go to bed early! The beach out front was amazing and such a treat for us. Thomas was wonderful!

Magical

The property is the perfect paradise location. It sits in the jungle with a short path to the beach. Such a thrill to watch the monkeys climb the canopy of trees over head each morning. At night we were rocked to sleep with the ocean waves. The beach is very private and pristine and the people of Costa Rica are lovely and so helpful. Plus, I cannot even begin to describe the food. Everywhere we went was amazing. Thomas, our host was accessible and knowledgeable about the property and Costa Rica. A great soul. I wanna go back!!!

Privacy & Relaxation in Punta Cocles

Casa Marisa and Casa Caracola exceeded our expectations! The descriptions and pictures do not do them justice. Comfortable, welcoming and relaxing - and merry steps to the (nearly) private beach. We fell asleep to the sound of the Carribean Sea every night. We walked to beach clubs and restaurants, and drove 700m for groceries. Secluded, yet close enough to the action in Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. We absolutely loved our stay!

Beautiful jungle garden next to beach

My sister & I loved the property for its natural beauty, privacy & direct access to a stunning beach. The house was lovely & felt spacious & comfortable for 2 people. It is walking distance to grocery store & restaurants. The owner provided us with a lot of info to make our trip go smoothly. The property felt very secure as well. We also enjoyed watching howler monkeys in the trees one evening during our stay!

Absolute dream vacation

This property is absolutely beautiful and well located! Our family stayed for a total of 5 nights and enjoyed the confort and layout of the house as well as the garden surrounding the property. Although many restaurants and markets are walking distance, the property is calm, relaxing and very secure. We had the pleasure of falling asleep to the sound of the ocean and waking up to the sound of the playful monkeys right above us! I wouldn’t hesitate to return to this rental paradise! Favorite restaurant in the area Sol de Caribe and definitely recommend a visite to Playa Punta Uva. Enjoy your stay! Stephanie March 2023

Beautiful Home and Fantastic location

Architecture and layout of this home are quite beautiful. Very short walk to a beautiful beach and many excellent restaurants, grocery stores, etc. are close by. Cocles Beach, Punta Uva, and the Jaguar Rescue Center are must sees. The house has many windows and fans to provide ventilation. However, it does not have air conditioning so this might not work for someone who is not comfortable in the warm humid climate of the southern Costa Rican Caribbean.

Spacious, great location

This home was spacious & in a great location as it was between the main road & the beach & very secluded & we saw sloths & monkeys right out the back door. I would have preferred A/C in the bedrooms as it was very warm for sleeping for us & we couldn't escape the heat & humidity. My "heads up" info (please don't take as strictly complaints, just info I wish I had known before booking/arriving) if you are looking at staying here are: No screens in windows, so they say open windows for sleeping, but you will have bugs fly in. Doors & windows are not sealed & therefore we had ants, geckos, small crabs & frogs come into the house. There is no cleaning service & you have to bring laundry off site. No "supplies" as far as shampoo, etc & they do not restock dish soap, toilet paper, etc if you run out. The contact person, Thomas, was amazing & super responsive though when we needed water tank switched over & a new toaster, as well as provided information when asked very promptly. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but can't say with 100% certainty I would stay here again.

Fabulous property in a beautiful location

We rented the house for a week and absolutely loved our stay at Casa Marisa! The house is so uniquely designed and comfortable. If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rica experience, you will find it here. Every wall has doors and windows that open to the gardens and jungle that surround the house. The privacy is wonderful and the fully gated property made us feel very safe. From any room in the house, you can watch toucans, howler monkeys, crabs, sloths and other amazing wildlife. You can hear the ocean from the house, and there is a through-the-trees ocean view from the back. The location can't be beat. It is a very short stroll through the gardens and a small strip of jungle to get to beautiful Cocles Beach. A grocery store and restaurants are also a short walk away. The town of Puerto Viejo is also close by and has many more amenities. There are so many tours and activities nearby, but we really liked to just hang out at the beach, swim, surf, eat the great local food, and enjoy the hammocks! Thomas, the local property manager, was also very helpful and responsive. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants a true Costa Rican adventure!

Great location

We stayed as a family of 4. The house was spacious, and in a great location within easy walking distance of x2 grocery stores and many good eating places. It is set in lovely gardens where we saw howler monkeys, birds and x2 sloths. As described in the listing there is a gate leading onto a large beach but due to the time of year (July) it was not safe to swim and diffucult to access due to the amount of rain. There was a lovely beach with a safe swim zone and life guards just 5 mins drive away so not really an issue for us that we couldn't swim from the house. The house is in need of some TLC. Some of the insect nets around the top of the house frame were damaged both in the in the main living areas and the bedrooms. There was not enough crockery (bowls in particular) in the kitchen for a family of 4 and we were only able to use 2 of the 4 gas rings on the hob as the ignition was broken on the other 2 and the lighter provided didn't work. 2 of the 4 outdoor chairs were damaged, one the arm was broken and the other had a broken seat. The cushions had been left in the rain so were very wet and couldn't be used till we had dried them out. We really enjoyed our stay in Playa Cocles and loved the position of the house and the abundance of wildlife in the garden. Our feeling was that with a bit of TLC and maintenence, this property would offer better value for money.

Very nice property

Let's start with Thomas, the property manager. He is very friendly and helpful. Our wifi went out a couple of times and he was right on it to get it fixed. He was also helpful with knowledge of the local area. The property is in very good repair. The kitchen is full and has plenty of place settings and knives, spatulas, pots, etc if you want to cook. The fridge has plenty of room. The hot water is plentiful, but may take a bit of time to reach the kitchen or bathrooms. I am not sure where the hot water heater is, but I suspect it is the "on demand" type and in the shed that holds the laundry room. Either way, plenty of hot water so don't worry about that! If you have kids pay for the laundry. Hauling clothes to a laundry in town can be a drag. As a side note for some reason finding black pepper at the stores was harder than I expected. You may want to bring some :) I gave up looking. The house can be made very secure when leaving and there is a safe and alarm as mentioned. If the alarm goes off the police and Thomas are notified. That said, I never saw any evidence of crime in the area and felt totally safe both on the property and in town. We found the house to be exceedingly clean and the grounds as well. Once off the property on the beach side it does get a little dirty. This is not the owner's fault in any way. There is a public beach access near the house and it is used frequently by locals and many do not have the same ideas about keeping nature clean for the next person as many do in the States. That said, the beach is a close walk from the house. The beach usually has few people on it. There is a small river to cross to get to the northern part of the beach right at the end of the trail from the house. This is also where the public access is. The river side of the beach forms a lagoon of sorts where our kids enjoyed playing as well. The waves were red flagged in places, but we never found them to be excessive and our kids (6 and 8) had no problems in the surf. They are excellent swimmers so do take that into consideration if you have children with different abilities. The area is OK and what you would expect for this part of Costa Rica. There are grocery stores within walking distance of the property but can be pricey. We found the Mega Super beside the clinic in Puerto Viejo to have very reasonable prices and much better selection. But it is a haul if you don't have a car. All in all I would recommend Casa Marisa for a good vacation.

Jungle paradise

Property was a little challenging regarding road access, but we managed. It would have been perfect if not for the neighbor's dogs constant barking and 9 days out of 12 of rain. (i know there is nothing property management can do about that!) My only suggestion -not property related- is choose dates .wisely . The overall property was great!

Great beach and location to town.

Our family of 4, two boys 7 and 10 years old had a great visit to Casa Marisa. The property was beuatiful and steps to the beach, and less than 10 minutes walk to a great restaurant and grocery store. The town of Puerto Viejo is an easy 5-10 minute drive and has most things you'll need for your stay. We found plenty of things to do to keep us busy for a week, we could have stayed longer. A chocolate tour (we did the one at Caribeans Chocolate and Coffee), and the Jaguar Rescue Center were fantastic tours for us and our boys. Both were informative yet not too long for our boys to lose interest. We also really enjoyed the trails and beaches at the Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. The house sits on a large lot with tons of trees and wildlife, our first day we saw monkeys and a 2 fingered sloth in the trees. The property does have a casita that other guests can book. We had 3 seperate guests use the casita during our week stay. 2 of the guests were extremeley nice and friendly. The other couple was not friendly (although it could have just been a language barrier, or shyness), they did park right next to our hamock and outside eating area which seemed a bit intrusive to our space. Casa Marisa was a really beautiful and enjoyable house to stay in. The house is older but has beautiful construction detail and architecture. It could use a little tlc in a few spots but it was clean and very comfortable. It does not have AC, which is clear in the listing. It did get warm a few nights for our family, granted we like and are used to sleeping in cool temperatures. The kitchen could be better stocked with dishes and cooking pans and utinsels. It got a little annoying the more we cooked at the house. We've spent weeks in Costa Rica since staying in this house and found it to be one of our favorite houses and locations. Even with the few items that were not "perfect", it's a fantastic place to stay. Thomas was very helpful and available any time we needed something.

Why they chose this property

Costa Rica offers a wide variety of spectacular terrain , animals and plants. With its unique location it boasts both Pacific and Caribbean coast lines. The Caribbean Coast offers a more relaxed friendly holiday with the added excitement of some extreme sports, for those who want to venture away from the delicious local food, drinks and beach. There are many reasons why Puerto Viejo is known as the most happening town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. There is so much to see and do here, but far and away the overall vibe here is the 'pura vida' that Costa Rica is so famous for. So whether you come to relax under the palms on one of Puerto Viejo's beautiful beaches or try and tackle the surf at Salsa Brava (just 100 yards away) or Cocles, there is also great snorkelling and diving in the areas active coral reefs. Or how would you like to hike and bike through the jungle? There is also excellent white-water rafting in the area. It is all possible here.

What makes this property unique

Cocles Beach is the winner of the highly coveted Costa Rican government Blue Flag for pristine beach and is the only lifeguard-protected beach on the Caribbean Coast. The golden sands meet the warm Caribbean ocean and from the beach no buildings are visible. This beach has both great surfing at one end and safe swimming for families with children at the other. Please note that the route to the beach from the beach gate goes through a small strip of jungle (about 5-8 metres in width). This is national park and therefore cannot be cleared, so at times it can be over grown. If guests have mobility issues, the beach can be easily accessed from the main house gate, where the beach can be reached by just a short two minute walk along a small lane.
