About this property

Central San Diego Quiet Retreat one bedroom condo close to all

Apartment consists of a one bedroom one bathroom with queen bed. Ample closet space with linen closet in hallway and pantry in kitchen. Fast wifi. A/C and heat pump. Private deck off of kitchen with nice backyard views. Full kitchen with gas stove and full fridge. Kitchen table was designed and created by legendary local artists Marcus Gutierrez and Fernando Apodaca (same artists that did Pearl Jam's 'Life Wasted' video). Shared laundry in backyard. Nice backyard garden. Quiet neighborhood. If you want to be 'in the middle of the action' and be able to walk everywhere, this is probably not for you; however, if you don't mind short drives to sd attractions but would prefer a quiet place, you will probably like it here. Urban hiking nearby in Tecolote canyon.

This was the best experience I’ve had on VRBO. Scott’s place was fantastic. I hope to stay again.
The place had everything we needed for a long stay. The neighborhood is great, parking is plentiful, and there was even a cat to greet us everyday! I had absolutely zero issues. I hope to stay here in the future it was so great.

One of the best!
We use VRBO routinely. This listing was 100% accurate, wonderfully comfortable, and the hosts were so responsive (I messed up remote/tv within minutes of check in, which was super easy, and the host arrived within like 5 minutes to fix my error). During our stay, we felt very supported by our hosts and safe in their beautiful neighborhood. If we ever find ourselves needing accommodations in SD in the future, we will definitely reach out to this property. One more thing, the listing does not mention the wonderful backyard patio. Every day, my husband spent his morning out there relaxing in the morning sun!

Easily one of the best rentals I've ever had. The unit was comfy and well stocked. Scott was very responsive and helpful. Easy street parking. I would rent this unit again without any hesitation.

Excellent Value, Beautiful Place
Spent a week while attending a conference. This is great alternative to an economy hotel room. Great location, short drive to all major SD sights - Balboa Park, Old Town, Downtown, Pacific Beach/Marina/Sea World. Minutes to USD. Major shopping center a couple of miles north. Cool ocean breeze keeps rooms comfortable. Part of a duplex so really all the advantages of a home - direct access to outside private area. Quiet neighborhood, feels more like being out in the country.

Another good stay in San Diego
This is the second property of Scott's that we've stayed in. We've had good vacations in both of them. We like having a private, quiet place to stay when we're in SD playing baseball.

Ideally located, clean, comfortable, quiet, cozy...ahhhhh...
My husband and I stayed here for eight nights, and our experience was EXCELLENT. The description of the space that Scott and Bisera have composed is very accurate, so take the time to read it, because they truly represent the accommodations as they are. Things worth emphasizing: -- The unit was very clean. -- The neighborhood is so quiet and safe that we left the front door open every night, locking only the screen door, and left the windows open as well (all the windows have safety stops). A single woman traveling alone would feel completely at ease here. -- The bed is every bit as comfortable as described. Wow! -- The kitchen is very well equipped. We cooked most nights and had almost everything we could have wanted. -- The house is ALWAYS comfortable. During the heat of the day, the space felt cool; in the chill of the evening, the space felt cozy. -- There are multiple outdoor spaces where you can read, relax, watch hummingbirds while you have your morning coffee, watch the sunset while you enjoy an evening cocktail, etc. If love being outside and prefer to sit in the sun, there's always a spot for you. If you love being outside and prefer the shade, there's always a spot for you. -- From this location, you can easily drive anywhere and everywhere. We went to the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas; we explored the tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument; we went sailing in San Diego Bay; we spent a day in La Jolla; we ended most days at the dog beach at Ocean Beach. Everything was a short drive from "home". Bonus: If you want to use public transportation, the Morena/Linda Vista trolley station is nearby. You can park there for free, take the trolley into town, and hop on and off trolleys and buses all day long with a $5 MTS day pass (a great way to get to and from a Padres game without the hassle of traffic and parking). -- Grocery and drug stores are close by, as are several gyms (if you belong to LA Fitness, there's a gym in nearby Kearny Mesa). Tecolote Canyon is practically in the back yard -- easy, pretty day-hiking. We did not use the television at all, but we did avail ourselves of books from the large, eclectic collection available -- nice touch! If we need accommodations in San Diego in the future, we will happily stay here again. If you're looking for something fancy or hip, this spot is not for you. If you're looking for a place that feels like home, you'd be hard-pressed to do better.

GREAT RENTAL COZY AND COMFORTABLE QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD. GREAT PRICE
I loved the place from the moment i walked in. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots, pans and dishes. The bedroom was a good size with a large closet. The bed was really comfortable with a great comforter and pillows. Slept like a baby. Bathroom had plenty of towels and toilet paper. Close to beaches and grocery store Vons a few mins away. Great parking out front. When i asked Scott about places to take my son Bret with autism for walks he sent me an email with a list of places to go. When i spoke to Bisera about Bret and the noise he made at times she was very understanding and compassionate and said that i would be welcome back anytime. She is even filled my arms up with oranges from her tree out back. She is AMAZING!!!! I would definately recommend this rental.

Home away Home
The hosts, Scott and Bisera are so nice and accomodating. Scott was the one who welcomed us and even helped us with our luggages. The house is simple, quite old but very homey. It has a big backyard with some fruit trees. As you go out from the kitchen, there's a set of table and chairs where we always have our breakfast. We were able to use their washing machine and dryer too. My son enjoyed the fast internet. The bed was so comfy! Unlike the other apartments/hotel beds that are either too soft or squeaky or hard.My son didn't mind the softness of the sofa but i wasn't confotable sitting on it. It's too saggy for me. They don't have a dining table but it's ok for us coz most of the time, it's just me and my son. Everything in the website's description is true. The place is quiet. No problem in parking. One more thing, I forgot to ask Scott/Bisera about food deliveries. There was one time that I was looking for any restaurant that can deliver food but I couldn't find one. It says, area is not available for deliveries. Well, I just went out to pick it up. Overall, we are very much looking forward to stay there again!

Perfect
Although we were expecting a single family home, not just the upstairs unit, we were very pleased with the balcony/view and just as indicated, the bed was very comfortable (full size). Very nice, quiet neighborhood...at the end of a cul-de-sac with easy street parking. Very clean and all amenities provided. Extremely reasonable fees. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

Nice property in a quiet ethnic neighborhood
The property is very nice, spacious, quaint, located in the quiet residential ethnically diverse neighborhood of Linda Vista, furnished and interior decorated from the 70-80's. The owners Scott and Bisera are very helpful and promptly responsive when I had questions. Note that there is no dishwasher.

Nice and quaint!
We realy enjoyed our stay! The place was very clean and had all the kitchen utensils you would need to cook your meals there. The location was pretty central to all we did in San Diego. There were times we just wanted to stay and hang out at the house, because it felt comfortable! We look forward to staying here for our next trip to San Diego!

Great location and great owners.
My niece and I traveled from Indiana to stay in San Diego. Scott's and his wife's rental description is very accurate and the rental was very clean! Be sure to rent a vehicle and their rental is close to everything in San Diego. Scott was very helpful in every way...as far as with the rental or great local places to visit. We were gone during the days, but evenings at the rental were relaxing to sit outside on the deck. We'd both stay again at the rental in a heartbeat. Thanks Scott :)

Amazing little 1 BR in Linda Vista!
This was a perfect retreat for myself while visiting a friend. (Serendipitously, I could view her building across the canyon when sitting on the front porch!) Very comfortable space and there would have easily been room for my hubby too! The bed was just right! Good supply of cooking pans in the kitchen! More than enough clean towels and extra blankets too! The small deck and chairs in the back were a lovely little surprise as were the orange trees where I was able to pick and squeeze fresh juice! YUM!! My friend and I enjoyed sitting out back a couple of evenings. It was a great spot to sit and sketch the beautiful places we had seen each day! The only downside would be no AC. This was noted in the descripstion and for me was not a big deal, but there was a bit of a heatwave last week and the living space got toasty a couple of afternoons. With the windows open the sea breezes made things comfortable. I would highly recommend this lovely spacee for a single person or couple looking for a quiet space to stay in San Diego!

Solid Value
This is a cozy, clean, quiet little place perfect for two during a long weekend stay. Nothing fancy, a little rough around a few edges but with a lot of heart and an artistic flair. Hosts were attentive to the one or two issues we raised. You'll be happiest if you have a car, and we were quite pleased with how easy it was to park and to travel to our many destinations.

Easy Drive to Every Point in SD
We spent a long weekend at this large one bedroom and were able to get to all the major destination on our list in under 25 minutes by car. I don't know how it would have been without a car, but with one: I cannot recommend it highly enough. Would definitely stay here again!

Comfortable Stay With All Necessities
I had a great stay here and it was a significantly better choice than any hotel in the area. It has the suburban feel with a short drive to the heart of the city. Everything was clean and comfortable and had that "home" feel. Scott and Bisera are excellent hosts as well.

Quaint retreat for extended stay
As our first grand baby was born in Linda Vista, this summer, my wife and I found this quiet and safe location within close proximity to our son's home. Having never used HomeAway before I was a bit skeptical. What we found was an affordable, full featured condo/duplex that met nearly all our needs. It is clean, centrally located within a few minutes of downtown, very close to one of San Diego's finest schools, the University of San Diego. In the entire six week stay, we never had an issue with parking, each night we parked right outside our front window. We were also delighted with some of the recent additions, like the patio just outside the kitchen. The owner Scott is just next door and is courteous and easy to reach. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a safe, comfortable and affordable stay in San Diego. Definitely a thumbs up.

About the host

Hosted by Scott Hamashige

Host profile image
i (with the helmet) have a small mobile bicycle repair business in town. Bisera (the blonde) and i enjoy riding bicycles, going to the beach, and going to the swap meet on weekends. Bisera is from Serbia and enjoys cooking.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood of Linda Vista is very central, close to all. Close to beaches but without the noise and congestion of the beach area. Close to convoy street where San Diego goes for Asian food. Close to Tecolote Canyon, great for urban hiking and/or running. Quiet.

What makes this property unique

If you prefer a quiet neighborhood and don't mind short drives to SD attractions, this could be good for you. If you like a garden, we think we have a pretty nice one.
