Vacation under the refreshing thatched living room and open kitchen of our intricately woven palapa, with waves and breezes accompanying you day and night. Casa Maya is a unique Mexican coastal-style home built in 2012 by skilled native artisans using palm fronds, aged tropical woods, hand-hewn stone and tile. It is perched directly on oceanfront with sandy beach on one side, and an infinity pool lapping from the other direction right into the living room. The surf break, with swimming beach and pods of whales, is visible as you sip your coffee from the palapa-thatched living area. This artistic space includes a marble dining table with tree root base seating ten, lazy ceiling fans, two giant pillowed lounge couches, and a shady pergola directly off the edge of the pool. A spacious chef's kitchen with wet bar and walk-in pantry is central, the woodwork capturing authentic Mexican tradition, punctuated by a swirled shell backdrop and pounding ocean surf.

Nestled within the gated compound are four luxury villa suites (ceiling fan-cooled and/or air-conditioned--your choice.) Abundant tropical palms and flowers grace the property, providing ample privacy and cozy resting spots.

Settle into--

La Ola and La Concha Suite: Two beachfront suites with King beds, cobbled outdoor showers for sun sprinkles or star gazing, a private shaded pergola terrace and direct pool/ocean access. Each suite sleeps 2 persons.

El Jardin Suite: This lower garden suite with King bed also has a double sofa-bed, indoor sitting area plus a wood-beamed outdoor terrace with huge siesta-pillowed couch and native bistro table offering veiled ocean views alongside an exotic garden with over 90 plant species and 16 species of palm. Sleeps four persons.

La Palma Suite: The quiet upper suite with King bed has a double sofa-bed and indoor sitting area, plus an open-air fully equipped kitchenette. This private outdoor refuge eclipses a tree-top view of the garden, the surf break, and crashing ocean vista. Sleeps 4 persons.

Twelve persons is the maximum capacity of Casa Maya---8 adults and 4 children 12 y.o. and under. A $25/person/night will be charged for more than 8 adults or children over 12.
Our groundskeeper, Edud, looks out for the property, and daily housekeeping by Adaly is also included, except Sunday. Cooking by Adaly is easily arranged at an additional cost. Or you may prefer to prepare your own meals in our large chef's kitchen under the palapa or grill outdoors on our Weber gas grill.

Consider renting the entire property for a family/friends gathering, a wedding, a reunion, or just retreat inside your own suite where you will experience peace and tranquility. The lush hummingbird-filled gardens and refreshing infinity pool of Casa Maya will unwind and enfold you.

Casa Maya was perfect...

We just came back from a 5 day vacation @ Casa Maya and we really enjoyed our stay. The property is well maintained, with manicured grounds, functional layout and was very clean and comfortable. Adaly and Edud took very good care of us during our stay and they were very helpful with all of our requests. The suites were well-maintained, beds were very comfortable and we slept well at night. I would not hesitate to book another week at this property in the future.

This was our third stay at Casa Maya. As always, the stylish and luxurious property was immaculate. Bedding and mattresses are high-end and extremely comfortable; kitchen is well-equipped; showers and the infinity pool are works of art. Heaven on earth.

Perfect for families

Absolutely amazing choices of beaches right out the door: surf break, swimming either in Manzanillo Bay or Majahua beach where there are charming palapa restaurants with yummy food, and even tide pools where the kids could experience colorful fish swimming between their toes. And the 3-level infinity pool allows for children to splash or water aerobics or floating without a care. The staff is tremendous and can cook breakfast, snacks and meals as you like. I can say our family of kids from age 2-20 was thrilled. High chair, cribs and children’s cots as well as sofa beds allow for maximum flexibility. Darling painted chairs and tables for children. Sand and pool toys and boogie boards provided. It’s our favorite vacation ever and we’ve already booked for next year!

It’s Like Having You Own Private Resort

Just a few miles up from the main street of Troncones, Casa Maya is located in a serene neighborhood right on the beach with spectacular sunsets and sprawling grounds that allow you to feel total privacy and a connectedness to the natural beauty of this very special place. Everything is decorated very tastefully from all of the common living areas to each of the individual suites with regional handicrafts, though nothing is overly fussy. Everything that we needed was there for us to prepare meals and entertain our group. When we needed special attention, Don made sure that things got taken care of quickly. Good restaurants are within walking distance as are excellent beaches. The staff are very friendly and helpful and were even willing to prepare some food for us for a few extra pesos. We have been staying here for several years and will no doubt be coming back as we find Casa Maya to be the perfect place for our Mexican getaway.

AMAZING! This property provided everything we needed.. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

We got to spend 10 fantastic days at Casa Maya with our family, including 4 children ages 2-15. The property is even more perfect than the photos provided. The rooms are beautiful and kept clean and tidy by Adaly and Edud keeps the grounds spotless. Claudia was super helpful with getting us set up and helping us organize our stay. We all enjoyed the huge palapa living area where we could cook our meals, lounge, relax and watch the beautiful sunsets each night. The kitchen has everything you might want to prepare your meals and the barbeque was a perfect way to cook up the fresh seafood and veggies we bought from vendors right at the door. The infinity pool is perfect for our larger group and the multi-depths were safe for the kids. Everything here is top quality, making our stay very enjoyable. Things like boogie boards, juicers, floating devices for the pool, games tub and first aid supplies are all there for you. Tronconnes is now our new favourite place and we plan to return to Casa Maya again.

Casa Maya Paradise

Absolutely fantastic! Oceanside paradise retreat on the northern point of beautiful Manzanillo Bay. Large palm palapa to hang out during day or evenings, next to a never ending edge swimming pool fronting the ocean. At night, the casitas offer a cool respite from the tropical nights. Easy walk to beach side restaurants or a swim in tranquil Manzanillo Bay. We loved it! I would rate this as a 10 for both accommodation and location.

Exceeded Expectations

We rented the property for a family get together, and everyone had a fantastic time. Everyone was impressed with the meticulous landscaping and attention to detail. The property appears to be one of the newer houses on the beach, and the construction quality is exceptional. Adaly and Edud were awesome! I didn't attempt the Tombstones break out front (I didn't see anyone try it either), but I did surf the point break across the bay a BUNCH of times. We also went out to the Boca break as well as Saladitas. Boca was a beach break that was mostly closed out when we went. The surf at Saladitas is very nice, but was crowded when we were there. As for improvements, a few more beach items would be nice. There were a few boogie boards available, but it would be great if the property had an old longboard or two. We found renting to be pretty pricey, but fortunately we had friends staying down the beach who let us use their's.

Best family vacation ever!

Renting the villa was super easy Don the owner is awesome he answered all of our questions and also sent us lots of informations concerning the villa and troncones he is super organized. We had such an amazing time at the villa. The villa is beautiful and very well equipped and very clean it was PARADISE. The pool is huge my kids were swimming all day. The villa is in the nature we saw lezard, crab fishes and many other animals. The best part of the villa for me was the outdoor shower wow what a great experience. Waking up every morning and having my coffee in front of the ocean was priceless. Adaly and edud where amazing with us they cook they smile to us we talked they made these beautiful flower arrangements they help with anything we needed. Overall the villa is a 5 stars ++😊 we were very sad to leave troncones but we have amazing family memories that will last forever because of Don and his great team. I went to a lot of five stars hotels in my life but spending vacation at villa casa maya was the best vacation ever. We can’t wait to go back and enjoy more peaceful time in the nature !!!!

Perfect retreat for families

Casa Maya is a special place. The garden is elegant. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Under the large palapa roof it is always cool with soft breezes. A large sofa-lounge is a perfect place to read and relax or whale watch and large enough for 4 people to share. Another large couch is poolside with great bay views. And if you like to barbecue there is a nice Weber grill that looks and cooks like new. However if you do not want to cook, Adaly, the maid can provide delicious meals. Or you can easily walk to 6 or 7 restaurants close by. But I think our favorite part was the large beautiful infinity pool. There are levels for everyone. A shallow area perfect kids, an area about shoulder deep for adults and an area deep enough for water aerobics. The poolside lounges are comfortable and there are several pool floats available.

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!

Hi ......Just wanted to drop a quick not to provide some positive feed back about our recent stay at Casa Maya. Firstly, many thanks to the flexibility of the owners, management and staff. The trip was initially just for me, but at the last moment 4 of my friends decided to join. The rooms were opened immediately and our "expansion" was quickly accommodated. This stay at Casa Maya was my 4th trip to Troncones this year. Casa Maya is an exceptional property superbly built by an extremely talented architect. If you are a surfer, the house has a gnarly left almost directly out front, appropriately called Tombstones. It is also walking distance to several other breaks. If you are surfing or just winding own, we would highly recommend Casa Maya and the good people who support the property. It is peaceful, clean and secure. I will definitely be staying there again. 5 stars from us. Thankyou. Ash Day

Most relaxing, beautiful location!!

Casa Maya was everything we hoped it would be for our family vacation. The house is just beautiful and the pool looking onto the beach and ocean is absolutely fantastic. Every room was so beautifully furnished and the palapa was the ideal family hangout location! We had very young children all the way up to grandparents with us and it was perfect for all! The staff is outstanding- attentive, friendly and so helpful. My 3 year old got a virus while we were there and the manager Claudia even helped us take him to the pediatrician! Absolutely recommend this lovely vacation spot to anyone - even those with very young children!! Thank you Casa Maya!!

A spectacular property and experience

We were spellbound from the moment we opened the gate into Casa Maya. We wove through the abundant tropical garden lush with flowers and succulents to an open 180 degree view of the ocean and distant Manzanilla Bay. Perched right on the beach is an expansive infinity pool that encircles the side of the outdoor kitchen and living area - A luxury campsite. Pelicans in flocks of 10 - 12 peel low over the site and horses approached from the beach offering rides. We could see surfers in the distance. The two front sleeping rooms are decorated with folk art and magnificent indigenous stone and ceramics. A double bathroom in each includes an outdoor shower enwrapped with bougainvillea and vines. Beautiful teak shutters allow for every adjustment for sun, wind and weather. A beautiful ocean breeze and surf sounds accompany every hour of the day. The temperature was perfect during our stay and even a bit of rain was welcome. The staff was like family and provided anything we needed and the local restaurants offered delicious fresh caught seafood. Surfing is close by and more recently mountain biking trails abound. Casa Maya offers a very special mix of native outdoor living and pure luxury. Our family of 9 with 3 children under 7 all found it close to paradise.

Absolute gem - unpretentious luxury!

We were a group of 7 staying over the Christmas break and we very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Maya. Everything was just perfect. We loved all the attention to details that the owners put into the place and especially how they designed the palapa area. Edud and Adely, the onsite caretaker and maid, were great - the property was spotless and gorgeous, inside and out. The main house, closer to the road, has two very spacious rooms. The bungalows are beachfront and are beautifully appointed. They are only a few meters from the pool and the mega-palapa. Everything on site is of high-quality (from teak doors to rustic metal sinks). Luxurious, yet unpretentious. The palapa was our favorite feature, as it stays cool all day (thanks to its size and three ceiling fans) and it has a huge kitchen where we could cook and mix drinks while keeping an eye on the kids playing in the fabulous infinity pool. The view of the ocean from the palapa is absolutely gorgeous - either from the king-size daybed or the massive semi-circular couch that faces the pool. The kitchen had pretty much everything we needed: quality appliances, utensils, dished and pots+pans. They even had a juicer (which we discovered on our last day!) and tons of glass containers with lids for saving leftovers or marinating our food. We would highly recommend renting this luxury villa for families or couples. Note that having a vehicle to get around to Troncones is highly recommended, as there are only a few restaurants that are an easy walking distance for families with children or elderly members.

Paradise!!!!!

I helped my family book Casa Maya to stay for during my destination wedding in Troncones. From start to finish Don was not only helpful and a delight to work with but conveyed the same special loving energy Troncones has blessed us with. The house is AMAZING and decorated perfectly. The house staff is helpful and loving and kind. My family has never traveled together so this trip and home made it all the more magical. Don forever grateful!

El propietario bastante amable aclaro todas las dudas y muy atento a todo.

Authentic Mexico

Casa Maya is a special and unique place, and the thought, and attention to detail Don and Chris have put into its creation is evident everywhere. The craftsmanship, and setting are exceptional. The rooms are huge and beautifully furnished, but the focal point of each day is the infinity pool and the Palapa. It doesn't get any better. The setting is georgeous, with the beach and Pacific only steps away. Our favorite part of our day was coffee in the morning, down on the sand in front of the Palapa. Claudia, Adelay, and Edud were super helpful, and quietly took care of everything while we were there. Another highlight was eating dinner at Martha’s and at El Toro, watching the fishing boats leave while the kids played in the surf. Magic! We were really lucky with the weather (we were there in September, and it rained only at night and the days were clear). The days seemed to run together so that we totally lost track of time. We didn’t really see any other Americans while there (low season), and most of the time we were the only people in the restaurants. We liked that. It was a great break and we felt like we experienced a much more authentic part of Mexico.

Perfect spring break vacation at Casa Maya

If you're looking for a place to relax and escape the usual hustle of tourism, Casa Maya is it. Thoughtfully and beautifully designed, the house projects an authentic, earthy Mexican atmosphere while still providing amenities such as free Wifi and AC. Clean drinking water is plentifully available from the jugs in the bathrooms and kitchen, although tap water is plenty clean for brushing teeth. Everything is kept very clean, and Christina and Edud are both incredibly helpful and resourceful. An infinity pool leads out into a flat, sandy area in front of the kitchen with a beautiful view of the ocean. Further down, a picturesque beach scattered with volcanic rock provides a great place to watch the amazing sunsets. A short walk along the beach to the left or along the road to the right, and you arrive at more sandy beaches perfect for swimming or other beach activities. There are great surfing breaks all around this area, including La Saladita not too far to the north. The area is very safe and the locals are friendly and inviting. A number of small shops and restaurants fill the nearby towns of Troncones and Majahua, and a short drive to the larger cities of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa will satisfy all your remaining shopping desires. Staying at Casa Maya was truly an awesome experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing beachside vacation.

Beautiful accommodations, lovely setting, stunning ocean views.

My husband and I spent 2 weeks( in late Jan./early Feb. 2016), with 2 other couples at Casa Maya. We have been friends for many years and we had previously visited the Troncones area in 2014 and 2015. Casa Maya is a truly beautiful property. This home is well designed and very attractive. Each room has great art work and the craftsmanship in the making of the doors, countertops, backsplashes, roofs, floors, furniture, etc. is really stunning. The beds and pillows are so comfortable and each bedroom is equipped with a ceiling fan and A/C. The infinity pool is always clean and you can sit in the pool and enjoy a view of the ocean at the same time. There is also a lovely small private beach area in front of the common living space that is perfect for viewing the ocean with a margarita as you watch spectacular sunsets. Christina, the housekeeper and cook, prepared wonderful meals (enjoyed in an open air dining space) and helped us with purchases from the local fruit truck and the fish truck. We appreciated Christina's daily room cleaning and Edud, the maintenance manager, kept the grounds (pool, gorgeous flowers and vegetation) in beautiful shape. We rented bikes and stand up paddle boards, walked and ran on the beach, enjoyed yoga sessions, visited small restaurants and shops in Troncones and Majahua (and enjoyed pozole at a small restaurant in Buena Vista) and simply relaxed by the pool. The property manager, Claudia, was available in person and by phone and was helpful in making arrangements for grocery purchases, etc. We felt totally safe during our entire stay and the people who live in Troncones and Majahua are friendly and helpful. We did not rent a car and used local taxis which are readily available. I highly recommend Casa Maya for a vacation get away. The owners of this property designed, created and maintain a lovely Mexican home and we had a terrific time there.

About the host

Hosted by Don and Christina Volkmann

Host profile image
After many years of traveling in Mexico, Don and Christina Volkmann followed their dreams and built Casa Maya. They hail from the Pacific Northwest where rains are abundant. Sharing this sun-drenched paradise with friends and family is truly a pleasure.

Why they chose this property

We searched far and wide throughout Mexico for the perfect spot. Here it is, in Troncones, where the surfing breaks and beach are uncrowded and glorious. This location is perfect for people who enjoy being outdoors and participating in every aspect of the natural environment from fresh fruit and delicious produce, abundant fish---to colorful flowers, birds, and marine wildlife. We especially love the proximity to several surf breaks, the chance to swim every day in the bay, and of course the rich culture of Mexico and the warmth of the people who live here.

What makes this property unique

Each vista from Casa Maya captures the raw, natural world of the beach. From lounging on the outdoor terraces to cooking beside a wall of stars, Casa Maya allows you to be a part of every breeze and wave, rocking with whales, pelicans, hermit crabs or iguanas--- and even the hummingbirds that dart into the outdoor showers. A stroll down the beach affords tasty restaurants, ceviche and beer, and of course a swim in the bay, or boogie boarding and surfing. Whether sprawling in a lazy hammock, hiking in the tropical forests, or saving a baby turtle, Casa Maya grants a true chance for reflection and relaxation.
