***BOX CREEK CABIN is nestled in a quaint aspen grove, off a picturesque lane at the flanks of Mt. Elbert; a quintessential cabin in the woods! Peacefulness, rustic luxury, comfort and natural beauty are the key words here!
***The cabin is the perfect base-camp for a family mountain vacation or the ideal place for a romantic couple's getaway. It is also centrally and conveniently located on the Leadville MTB bike course and also, near the Leadville Trail 100 route!
***The cabin offers UNLIMITED recreation and relaxation in the great outdoors as it is surrounded by 5 Wilderness areas and over a dozen of Colorado's 14'ers.
***We now offer our guests the convenience of Starlink WiFi, so if you need to be plugged in, we provide the connection that you need! The cabin also has a television with a DVD player for those who wish to have a special movie night.
LOCATION:
***Centrally located in the upper Arkansas Valley, the cabin is convenient to some of Colorado's favorite mountain towns!
***Leadville, 20 minutes north; Buena Vista, 25 minutes south; Aspen, west, a 1 hour drive over scenic Independence Pass, (when open late May through mid-October); Vail, 1 hour north, Summit County/Breckenridge 1 hour east.
DESCRIPTION:
***The cabin is ideally suited for times of rest, and equally well suited for adventure and endless recreation.
***We stock a variety of reading materials and a large selection of board games.
***Kids have a safe area all around the cabin to let their imaginations soar outdoors. The front covered porch provides inviting seating to enjoy the expansive views of Mt. Massive, Mt. Elbert, Homestake Ridge and Galena Peak to the North, with Mt. Sherman and the Mosquito Range to the east. We offer our guests two additional outdoor seating areas to enjoy the mountain views right from the cabin.
HIKING:
***Hiking is right out the door with spectacular vistas only a short walk to the "Point" where there is a 2 person swing to enjoy a front row seat of 360 degree views of the entire Upper Arkansas mountains. In one direction is Mt Oxford, Twin Peaks, Rinker Mtn, Mt Elbert, Mt Massive and Galena Peak and to the east is the full expanse of the Mosquito Range!
***Hiking trails are too numerous to mention here but are within close proximity to the cabin. Simply Google "hiking trails in Lake County, CO" ,"hiking trails in Twin Lakes, CO", "hiking trails in Chaffee County, CO" or "hiking trails on Independence Pass, CO", and you will find an abundance of trails to explore in the region. This simply scratches the surface of the hiking possibilities!
***The south trail-head to climb Colorado's tallest 14'er, Mt. Elbert, is a 5 minute drive from the back door. Use the cabin as a base-camp for a dozen other fourteener climbs close by.
***Halfmoon Valley and Creek are 20 min from the door with spectacular high alpine basins to explore.
FISHING:
***The Arkansas River, a destination fishing venue, is a highly renowned trout fishery, just minutes from the cabin providing miles of accessible fishing for the fly fisherman or woman. For the other anglers in your group, fishing at the Forebay or at the two Twin Lakes may be just what is desired, offering relaxing lake fishing opportunities. There are numerous professional fishing guides in the region to help you plan your trip.
THINGS TO DO:
***Twin Lakes Village is a 10 minute drive from the cabin, offering boat rentals, guided boat tours, water recreation, sandy beaches and water play along its two lakes.
***In addition, there are some quaint stores in the Village, including Tenderfoot Farms grocer with local meats, gourmet foods and gifts, The General Store which is very National Park-ish with a wonderful collection of road trip items, such as children's games, books and souvenirs, a fantastic collection of regional reading materials both historical and informational for hikes, etc, Shooting Star Gallery with local artisans, The Roadhouse Inn coffee shop with amazing hot and cold drinks and soft serve ice cream, The Twin Lakes Inn for breakfast with quaint ambience and beautiful views of Twin Peaks, and also several food trucks which serve a variety of fast, comfort foods!
***The charming and lively town of Buena Vista, 35 minutes to the south, offers many unique boutique shops, fine eateries, and hard and soft ice cream shops. It is also home to a very dynamic music scene at several local restaurants with live music happening several nights of the week.
***Include a trip a little further south to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and rejuvenate in one of their hot spring pools or let the kids ride down their newly updated water slide features and larger play pools! The inspiring Chalk Cliffs are observed from all of these water features!

***Or head north from the cabin and explore the historic mining town of Leadville with its distinctive shopping district along Harrison Street and the National Mining Museum. Summer offers Boom Days with Burro Races, the Leadville 100 Race series, a 100 mile mountain bike race and a 100 mile foot race held in August each year!
***Winter offers guided dog sledding and snowmobiling tours, alpine skiing at Ski Cooper, 25 min; Copper Mtn, 45 min; Vail, 60 min; Beaver Creek 70 min; Breckenridge, 60 min; Keystone, 60 min; or A-Basin, 80 min.
***Ski joring in Leadville along Harrison Ave in March is always a thrilling event! It is the unique sport of skiers being whisked behind a galloping horse on snow, ridden by expert equestrians, going over jumps and maneuvering around obstacles at break-neck speed!

***For those who enjoy exploration, Box Creek Cabin is situated on the edge of a rural, country neighborhood, with hundreds of square miles of undeveloped National Forest in all directions perfect for exploration on foot or bike. The Upper Arkansas Valley is surrounded by 5 Wilderness areas with countless hiking trails and numerous high alpine lakes.
***SLEEPING
You will find beds for up to 4 adults, with a queen bed in the rustic elegance of the master bedroom and a twin over full bed in the cozy bunk room. Clean, crisp sheets will help provide for a good night's sleep on each of the beds.
***KITCHEN
The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances and utensils, including: 3/4 size fridge with upper freezer, microwave, efficiency 4-burner stove with oven, toaster, drip coffee maker, all cookware, hand mixer, baking ware, roaster, crock pot, French press, eating utensils, glasses, basic spices, etc.

***LIVING ROOM
There is ample seating in the living room with a custom, comfortable, over-stuffed rustic swivel rockers that allow for conversation or warming by the fire, and a sofa.

***All rates are based on double occupancy and/or families with children.
***Please educate yourself on high altitude sickness and understand that we can not refund your reservation in the event of altitude sickness. It is wise to acclimate yourself slowly to 9500' or even higher elevations which surround the cabin.
***Please use AWD or more highly recommended in winter, 4WD with good snow tires. This is required for accessing the cabin in winter months or even unexpected snowstorms in the high country of Colorado!
