OBX Beach House + Bikes-Paddle Boards-Kayaks-Beach Chairs-AC-Free WiFi

Rack up your travel miles at Rodanthe’s vacation home, Frequent Flyer! Whether it’s a day at the sandy ocean beach, water activities on the Pamlico Sound, world class fishing, or island exploration, let Frequent Flyer be the hub of your next vacation.

Check your flight plan online with a full video tour and pictures! See what other guests have to say about the Frequent Flyer in the traveler reviews section and don’t forget to like us on Facebook.

Why choose the Frequent Flyer? Because the Frequent Flyer features four bedrooms, each with their own private bath, two with private decks! This fully appointed vacation home boasts spacious living and dining areas, a cook-pleasing kitchen, and expansive decks for incredible views of the Pamlico Sound and breathtaking sunsets. You can access the Sound via a private grassy lawn to swim, fish, or play using the owner-provided kayaks and stand-up paddleboards! The Atlantic Ocean is just a short walk with paved access all the way to the beach. There you can relax all day thanks to owner-provided chairs and umbrellas. There are no long paths across dunes to struggle with on this part of the island. You can stay connected with complimentary internet access or unplug and tour the villages on the owner-provided bikes. Sit back, relax, and make your vacation a first-class experience at the Frequent Flyer.

The Frequent Flyer from a Parent’s Perspective

If you’re like me, “family vacation” brings Chevy Chase and the Griswold’s to mind. Bored kids, an over-packed “family truckster” and expensive meals are just the beginning! I wanted to share why vacationing with my family at The Frequent Flyer takes the National Lampoon out of the equation and makes for not only great family fun but also a real vacation for me.

The ‘man cave’ (aka garage area) of The Frequent Flyer is packed with extras to keep everyone busy! From sand toys to bikes and Kayak’s to stand-up paddleboards, the family will have plenty to do and you won’t have to pack, or worse rent, all of the toys that make life at the beach more fun. There are even beach chairs for the whole family!

From the best tanning deck on the house, I can watch my kids play safely on the beach of the shallow-water Sound. They spend hours trying to catch hermit crabs and minnows while I catch up on my tan and favorite book.

The fully equipped kitchen means we can save a fortune on restaurant meals and my teenagers can eat their late-night cereal and frozen pizza. We save buying the bulky but essential items such as napkins, tin foil, saran wrap, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies because the owner provides them as a convenience. And when you decide to eat out, the local restaurants are family-friendly, reasonably priced, and amazing.

The Frequent Flyer from a Watersport Enthusiast

The Frequent Flyer has a grassy 1 acre Soundfront lot, a perfect rigging area for every water sport. The winds from the S to NNE are ideal for kiting and windsurfing on the Sound side. While it is possible to kiteboard on the inside of the bridge area, you will likely want to access the water west of the bridge. As winds go NE to SE, you can launch directly across the street on the Ocean side.

The house includes a ground floor enclosed ‘man cave’ plus a storage room for equipment. There are equipment racks outside for drying and inside to lock up at night. A half bath and two showers are outside under the house, in addition to a cleaning station with a utility sink and hose. We can clean up our gear so that it is ready the next day. Rigging, launching, and storing your gear is a breeze at the Frequent Flyer.

The ‘man cave’ also has a small bar, and a fridge which adds to the convenience factor. This house really caters to those who want access to the Sound and Ocean for watersports. When the wind is not blowing, the Frequent Flyer still delivers with 6 bikes for cruising the island, 3 kayaks, and 2 stand up paddleboards. And of course, no trip to Hatteras Island is complete without a visit to the local surf shops. Fortunately, Real Watersports, Kitty Hawk Kites, and other shops are all within a few miles.

The Frequent Flyer from a Fishing Perspective

Why settle for the Ocean or Sound when you can have them both! The Frequent Flyer is located on a very narrow segment of the island providing access to both Ocean and Sound fishing. If your target is inlet fishing, “Oregon Inlet” and the “New New Inlet” are just north of the Frequent Flyer.

Convenient storage areas make unloading and storing your gear simple. A deluxe, outdoor fish-cleaning table makes prep a breeze. Bring your casting net as bait can easily be caught along the shore of the Sound. If you prefer to buy bait or need to update your fishing gear, several bait and tackle shops are just down the street including, Hatteras Jack.

Offshore Fishing Charters are available from nearby Oregon Inlet or head south to the Hatteras Inlet. The Frequent Flyer is a dream vacation spot for avid fishing enthusiast and novices alike.

The Rodanthe ‘Jug Handle’ bridge bypasses the S-curves area just north of Rodanthe. The southern terminus of the bridge comes back into land South of the Frequent Flyer, along Pappy lane. To fish near and under the bridge, you can walk from the Frequent Flyer private Sound access lot as the water is shallow. Trout and Drum are plentiful.

Please let me know of any questions or concerns. We look forward to another great season in 2022 and make it our goal to ensure everyone has a 5-star vacation experience.

Great house!!
Mark and his family has thought of everything in this house. My family enjoyed all the extras this house offered, from riding bikes, to kayaking on the sound, to taking the chairs and umbrellas to the beach. If you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of life this is the place for you. What I found to be the best about this house is each bedroom had it own private bathroom attached to the bedroom.. So no need to fight over who was getting a shower and when....with 4 teenagers in the house this worked great. It was great to spend a very relaxing vacation with family. Thanks again Mark for all of your hospitality.

OBX Family Vacation at the Frequent Flyer
Annual family vacation. First time to OBX. House was very clean & well suited for our extended family. Frequent Flyer has many amenities as well as a well stocked kitchen. Private bathrooms in every room were definitely a bonus. Paddle boards & kayaks were frequently enjoyed for fishing & exploring the sound. Beach was a short walk from the house. Many laughs & drinks were shared on all three decks. Our stay couldn’t have possibly been more enjoyable. Mark was very attentive & checked in periodically to make sure everyone was enjoying their stay. The only downfall was our week was far too short. Thanks for sharing your home with us. We highly recommend staying at the Frequent Flyer anytime you are in Rodanthe.

Encore! Encore!
What’s to say but that Mark’s crazy-well equipped Frequent Flyer has quickly become an integral part of our annual escape to Rodanthe. As repeat guests who predate the close-by Jug Handle bridge, we might also add that we think nothing is lost here. The beautifully understated bridge somehow elevates those killer sunsets. Biggest relief? No privacy lost for the outside showers. Mark could not have acted w more diligence when the washer that started the week broken had to be replaced. Nice to be in such great hands!

Perfect for a family of seven
The house was immaculate and perfectly suited for 7 adults as every bedroom had a full bathroom and there was plenty of room in the common areas. We also loved hanging out on the three decks that overlooked the sound. The ocean access was a short walk down the driveway and across the street. Mark was extremely responsive to any questions. I don’t hesitate to recommend this awesome vacation home.

Excellent property
Our family had a great time at the Frequent Flier! Each of the 4 bedrooms were set up perfectly with their own private bathroom. In addition there is a half bath on the main floor so everyone’s bathroom stayed private. The outdoor showers are super handy and fun. Location was great for walking to the beach. The large dining room table made for great family meals and transformed into a fun game table at night. Mark responds super quickly and is so helpful. We had a great week making family memories here!!

Great Vacation Week
The Frequent Flyer was the perfect vacation spot for our family. Located perfectly between the sound and the ocean, and supplied with all of the "toys" needed for land and sea activities, it was exactly what our family needed for a great week of fun, relaxation, and bonding. We loved it and hope to come back again next year.

Rodanthe Frequent Flyer
Took the whole family out to the Frequent Flyer and had a wonderful time. Kayaks were a blast with easy access to the sound. It rained the week before our stay and a couple times while we were there. The mosquitoes were horrendous, so bring lots of bug spray to get the kayaks to the water. House was a wonderful place to call home for the week. Loved the clotheslines for drying swim suits. Games for evenings after exploring. Beautiful sunsets from the deck. Lots of goodies, well stocked for kids and families, which is something we really appreciate in a rental. Mark checked in and made sure to let us know he was available if we needed anything or had questions.

Excellent communication with owner, who helped us through a few glitches w equipment & air conditioning. So appreciated the bikes, kayaks & paddle boards. True short walk or ride to beach. It’s a great home for family . . Bedrooms & gathering around kitchen & family room. Surface areas clean but a deep clean is needed. Other than traffic noise Frm bridge, decks & property was great! Perfect!
Our week in Rodanthe was amazing! Frequent Flyer worked perfectly for our group of 8. We made use of every inch - the kitchen/living area was plenty big and comfortable enough for everyone! The back deck saw plenty of happy hours and sunset watches. The beautiful beach was close enough to walk back for lunch easily. Loved this stay!!!

Great Getaway
We had never been to OBX before and were looking for a location that was less touristy and more laid back. This definitely checked both boxes. The house was perfect for 7 of us and we loved sitting on the deck in the morning with our coffee and then again at night to watch the sunset. Everything was as described in the listing and Marc checked in multiple times throughout the week to make sure everything was going well. I would definitely recommend the Frequent Flyer to anyone staying in Rodanthe! Hoping to get back down in a year or two.

The house was clean and great space for 6 of us - actually could have had 2 more people. Owner was extremely responsive to any issues we had. Unfortunately the bridge opened last week so you can hear some of the traffic passing- sound machine helped with that! All in all a great vacation!

Excellent Rental for a Family
Frequent Flyer was an excellent spot for our family of 5. The four bedrooms and bathrooms allowed for all three teens to have their own room/bath which was perfect. We could have easily had another 3 with us! The house was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We cooked all our dinners at the house were able to find everything we needed and more. Having a washer and dryer was also helpful. The best part was all the toys outside. The bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, beach chairs & toys, and cornhole made it so there were plenty of things to keep us and our teens busy. Both the sound and the ocean were easy to access by a short walk. We enjoyed watching sunsets from the back deck every night. Mark was very communicative and helpful before and during our stay.

We chose this house for vacation because of the positive reviews, proximity to the sound and ocean, and amenities. We were not disappointed upon arrival to find out that the advertising was accurate. Frequent Flier was perfect
The property is exactly as pictured. It's situated far enough from the neighbors that you have plenty of peace, quiet and privacy, unlike many other OBX rentals. We were impressed with how spotless everything was upon check-in. Mark, the owner, called me the day before to see if we had any questions. He responded quickly to our questions about restaurant and market recommendations and even sent us links to special OBX news, such as being able to view the Perseid meteor shower during our stay. Our group of four adults and four teens had plenty of space in the four bedrooms, and we all appreciated the fact that each bedroom had its own adjoining full bathroom. A huge bonus was all the equipment that comes with the house. The teens especially enjoyed the kayaks and SUPs out on the sound. The beach was easily accessible. It took only about 5 minutes to walk across Highway 12, but most days we put the included beach chairs and cooler in the car and drove the half mile South to park and spend the day at the public beach area. All in all, it was a wonderful week at the Frequent Flier.

Oh What a Snatch!
Talk about a perfect perch for quintessential OBX fun. Be not afraid of the bridge. It has a beautiful curve that somehow adds to the view. No lights. And the gorgeousness of this spot is undiminished. Though the bridge was not yet open during our July 2021 stay, we found our Sound access just as golden, our nighttime sky just as filled w shooting stars, the Sound just as full of fish. We have already booked our return, no qualms at all about that bridge. This home seems small to the naked eye, but those decks are poised for sunsets and tucked inside are comfortable, well-maintained accommodations abounding in thoughtful touches. Keurig? KitchenAid mixer? You had us w hand soap. Our crew w dozing teens particularly enjoyed the incredible bedroom-bathroom quotient. We loved the double (!) outside showers and bathroom, the well-equipped open kitchen, and perhaps most of all, the built-in fun fleet. Lift that garage door and suddenly you have more (nice!) paddle boards, kayaks, and bikes than people! It’s a good thing. Even better, Mark is an incredible host—not just available and accommodating, but terrific with his every communication and helpful to the utmost extent, right down to helping us catch fish and get into the house as soon as it was ready. In short, do not hesitate!

Amazing family vacation!
Mark was quick to communicate details - I am a super planner so wanted some information early. The house was as described. We had 8 adults and were all comfortable in beds. It was awesome to have so many bathrooms! The kitchen was large, plenty of room to prepare meals and enough chairs for all of us to sit at the table and eat or play games. It was awesome to have the garage toys! We used the bikes, paddle boards, kayaks and corn hole. Right across the street is FREE ocean access to a beautiful beach. We were shocked when we went to the Rodanthe Pier and they wanted $15 each to get on the beach there! None of us had been to OBX, the sound was a great surprise! We rented a pontoon and were able to be far from shore, jump out and touch bottom! The water was clear and warm, we had a blast throwing the football and frisbee around. An airboat ride was educational and fun. Rodanthe is in the middle of the outer banks, so we took day trips both north and south. If you want to get to Ocracoke - leave EARLY. We got to the ferry at 10:00 am and it was a 4 hour wait to board. We skipped it and went to Buxton beach. Jockey Ridge Sand Dunes were a fun outing. We made so many memories with our adult children - our hearts are full!

About the host

Hosted by Frequent Flyer - Mark Haines

Host profile image
The Frequent Flyer was named after the owner’s favorite pastime (well, he would argue it is not a pastime but a lifestyle) kiteboarding, and the way he earned his kiteboard time: traveling more than 1.5 million miles by air, working for an engineering company.

An avid windsurfer from back in the early eighties, Mark started kiting in 2000 and quickly became an addict. He soon became a new type of Frequent Flyer, earning miles of airtime boosting, popping, jumping, and soaring over the Pamlico Sound.

Why they chose this property

As his millions of Frequent Flyer miles dwindled, being used up on airfare from Cincinnati (CVG) to Norfolk (ORF), Mark realized it might be time to become a local in order to support his kite habit. In 2009, the family purchased the now Frequent Flyer. They hope that it is a fun vacation destination for families visiting the Outerbanks in the summer and a great spot for Kiters, especially Mark, in the windy off season.

What makes this property unique

From the Frequent FLyer, you can easily access both the Sound and Ocean for water activities. The spot is a dream come true for Mark and Frequent Flyer guests.
