Wonderful place
What a wonderful place to stay. The cottage is really beautiful, the grounds and the views are amazing and a really relaxing place to stay. We were welcomed by Val and her husband then to walk into find the scones cream and jam which was a real treat. The cottage is so well equipped.I would love to come and stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a break away.

Charming comfortable cottage
Good location in Malborough, so close to lots of beaches, and not as busy as Salcombe. Peaceful with great views over the countryside, good size garden for the children to play in. Bathroom downstairs, but fine for us with slightly older children. Cosy with the woodburner when it got cold in the evenings.
We had a fabulous week at Vale Court Cottage, the cottage was one of the best we have stayed in, it was extremely well equipped! Yes the parking is tight we weren’t getting the VW van in, but we knew that from reading reviews and happily parked up in the free carpark less than a minute walk away. The location of the cottage was perfect, we walked to hope cove a couple of times with children aged 5, 8 and 11. Lobster at the lobster pod in hope cove, Burgh island, crabbing in salcombe and kayaking at south Milton sands are all a must. We really hope to be able to return one day for another week of heaven in Devon.

Fab fab cottage
We have just returned from vale court cottage, It was fab. Big but cosy, loved all the furniture, fitted in well with the character of the cottage but with mod cons such as the tv, wifi. It was important for us when looking for a cottage that we had outside space. The garden looked nice on the website but was better than expected. My dog loved the garden and we couldn't get him out of it. The views are amazing even when you are sitting in the lounge. The cottage is very central. We really did not want to leave and will be looking to make vale court a regular visit.
We had a great week in spring half term. The cottage is a home from home and nicely updated while retaining it’s considerable charm. The downstairs toilet and shower are a little inconvenient but this cottage is several hundred years old and it has been incorporated into the living space as well as it can be.
Take note of the parking situation. We managed to get our 4x4 in the courtyard to unload but we felt it was too tight to use every day. However we found plenty of on street parking close by.
The local beaches are wonderful but few allow dogs in peak season.
We look forward to coming again.
We took advantage of the jubilee weekend bank holiday and had a long weekend here
The cottage is beautiful with thatch and authentic old world charm
Open fire cottage garden and views
I am a gardener myself and this enclosed garden was important to me
Our dog was secure here too!
The local area is very rural but a local coop is a couple of minutes walk.
I would like to comment on the difficulty people have mentioned with the gateway being narrow.
We managed to park ok but it is tight!
Val and John are reassuringly nearby and introduced themselves, but also were discreet and not
Intrusive to our stay.
This is somewhere we would return to
Dawn
Cottage was lovely but a few things to note . The description although did advis a downstairs shower room I wasn t aware it was the only bathroom , so a little bit of a nuisance through the night ! It was also overall smaller than I had thought as it’s attached to another cottage which I didn’t know so again pictures were a little deceptive . Garden fabulous although we had a rainy week so couldnt enjoy it which was a real shame .. The parking was very tricky , if your car is anything above an average size you won’t be able to drive into the spaces in front of the cottage . We have an estate car and had to park a few minutes away at the village hall . This may not bother many people but I must say I prefer our car at the door especially having 2 dogs . I would have also liked a full length mirror ! A must for ladies ! Overall though a super cosy place with beautiful views in a peaceful location . Also be aware dog owners that dogs must be kept on leads there isn’t a local field for them to have a run which was a shame .
Fabulous location. Great base to explore the delights that Devon has to offer. The Sloop Inn for a cheeky pint before watching the water sports on Bantham’s sandy beech.
Had a lovely time, a very well equipped kitchen and nice fire in the lounge so cosy on dark nights and with a lovely garden so would be nice to stay in the summer too. Pub and playground very close & beaches a short drive.
The cottage is really lovely, with lots of well thought out bits and everything you need for a great break. There is a very modern shower room and a lovely lounge and very well equipped farmhouse style kitchen. There is a really lovely garden and the cottage is well placed to explore the surrounding area.
Val and John were lovely and really helpful with what was happening in the local area and where to go and visit.
The gate to the parking is very tight if you have a larger car, but it wasn’t an issue as there is a free public car park a couple of minutes walk away.
Malborough is a lovely village with a well stocked Co-op and two nice pubs and a farm shop.
This is our sixth stay here in a lovely cottage. The weather was sunny and warm and so we made the most of the garden with its beautiful views over the valley. It is really well located for visiting the beaches and local towns and the cottage has a really welcoming and homely feel. Very recommended.
Our stay at Vale court was incredible. As soon as we stepped in the door we felt ourselves relax. What an absolute treasure of a property.
As previously mentioned the parking isn’t ideal but a small price to pay for a week in such a gorgeous place.
We really enjoyed the peace at this cottage and the views.
The kitchen was a lovely welcoming space from our walks in the surrounding countryside.
Only slight problem as has been mentioned before is the parking. The entrance is narrow, however the village hall car park is a short walk so we used this instead.
Val the manager was available to help us during our stay and was very welcoming.
We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to visit this area.
Lovely warm cosy cottage with great scenic views from garden/sitting room french doors. The cottage has got everything you need so no need to take any extra ironing/cooking/hairdryers, sanitisers all supplied. Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds warm rooms.
The only down side for us was the gate to cottage entrance very narrow, so difficult to get car through so narrow only left inches either side. We decided to off load and park car 4 minutes walk away in free car park up the road.
All the reviews are spot on. Lovely stay at this very well equipped cottage. Garden is beautifully maintained . Val and John are great hosts and always willing to give some pointers.
- As per the description it’s worth noting that bathroom/toilet is on the ground floor and bedrooms upstairs;
- The entrance with the car is very narrow (don’t come with your Hummer) but you get used to it quickly;
- Sadly no BBQ for insurance reasons, but you are welcome to use a disposable one if you please;
- Mind your head if you are somewhat taller than average, in my husband’s case 6’4;
- The pub in the village aptly named The Village Inn is lovely and about 100m away if that. Book ahead;
- The Coop convenience store is very close by and you can get pretty much everything there;
- We loved Bantham beach and Hope Cove. Sadly the restaurant/cafe at Hope Cove is pretty hopeless;
- Walks around Thurlestone coastal path are amazing and hubby loved the golf there and played twice. He says its the Pebble Beach of the UK for £40 a round!
- Restaurants generally ram packed, particularly in and around Salcombe in August. Book well in advance if you can;
Great stay. Thank you.
We had a lovely stay at Vale Court. Val and her husband are a delight and made us feel very welcome. We stayed in the cottage with our three children (all under 6 yrs) and dog and had a lovely time. The kitchen is very well equipped and the cottage is very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect with handy conveniences nearby, 10 mins from the lovely Salcombe and less than 10 mins to the beach. Our kids did surfing lessons at Bantham Surf School (10 mins drive) which was a total hit!
Would highly recommend Vale Court Cottage. The garden is lovely too. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would return!
Beautiful cottage in idyllic setting with views of countryside
We had such an enjoyable week in Vale Court cottage. It was extremely comfortable and very well equipped with everything we needed. The property managers were friendly and welcoming and the cottage and garden extremely clean and well looked after. Perfectly located for stunning walks and short drives to the many coves, beaches and villages in South Devon. The village has great ammenities with a well stocked Coop and a delightful village farm shop selling all local produce. Our teenage boys enjoyed playing football on the village playing fields while we sat and relaxed in the garden watching the sun go down. A wonderful holiday.
We have just returned from a week's stay at Vale court cottage. The location is perfect for exploring Devon and its many beautiful beaches. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, cosy & quiant with idyllic views. Val and John were there perfect hosts and very helpful. In recent years we have holidayed abroad but this has really opened our eyes to a great british holiday. The kids loved every minute, exploring, learning to body board, crabbing and playing in the lovely garden. The days were fun packed but the evenings were so relaxing being able to return to our cottage. Couldn't fault it and can't wait to plan another trip, as loads more to see and do.
The location of the property is excellent with many walks a short drive away our favourite was to park in Bolberry car park and head out towards Bolt Tail or Bolt Head. The gardens and views were wonderful and the property ideal for us. As mentioned by others the entrance is narrow so we parked in the public car park literally a few minutes away and was not a problem at all. Look forward to our next visit.
Property was very clean, in a lovely location and has everything you could need for a break away. Lots of accessible beaches and Salcombe is easily accessible. We would recommend this property.
Lovely time at cottage. Val and her husband could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Access Information was excellent. The cottage itself was well equipped and very pretty.
Dog proof garden was hugely helpful.
Location was excellent and the surrounding towns, beaches and coves were stunning.
Just what we hoped for!

Why they chose this property
The South Hams' countryside and coastal areas close to the cottage are stunning and there is nowhere else that we'd prefer to live or be on holiday. The villages are charming with endless choices for restaurants and pubs with exquisite local shops for all your needs. With beautiful beaches, coastal walks and plenty of fun activities there is always something to do for all of the family.
