Isolated Charming Knotty Pine Cottage on 575 Acre Forest Preserve

Rates vary by date please click on rate tab above for complete information

Relax in this cozy small 2 bedroom cottage, nestled on a 575 wooded acre preserve with a rushing native trout stream flowing through the property and a series of mini water falls with a huge cool soothing swimming hole. There is an abundance of wildlife, an exceptionally pristine natural wooded landscape. Perfect for a quiet romantic getaway, only 75 miles away from New York City.

Entering the driveway, one begins a slow descent into the relaxed, other-worldly aura of the peaceful, bucolic and mysterious Dwarfskill Glen, traveling half a mile before reaching the cottage, the four-bedroom vintage main lodge (VRBO # 414465) and a small one-room cabin (VRBO#: 445407). From the top of the driveway, one can see a far ridge, which is part of the Dwarfskill Preserve Property.

This building is one of three rental properties at the Dwarfskill Preserve, which include a 4 BR Lodge, 2BR Cottage and 1Rm Cabin. The buildings are spaced around a large circle at the end of a 1/2 mile driveway. The Lodge faces the Dwarfskill Creek and its screen porch and deck cannot be seen from the other two buildings; the Cottage faces a meadow, similarly private. The Cabin sits between the other two buildings, at the beginning of the trail to the waterfall on the 575 acre property. The only other habitable structure on the property is the Caretaker's Barn, halfway up the driveway, which is not available for short-term rental.

The open combined kitchen, dining and living area in the cottage is all knotty pine with wood floors, ceiling fan, cathedral ceiling with French doors leading to a large screened in porch overlooking the meadow, with a picnic table, charcoal grill, abutting the forest. Two small bedrooms, each with queen size beds. Comfortable furniture, gas stove and kitchen stocked with necessary dishes, cookware and spices. Immaculately clean, with quality bed and bath linens. Window Air Condition Unit in the main bedroom.

The Dwarfskill creek is just down a path through the woods; it can be heard babbling through the dense hemlock and pine forest as it rushes downstream to Split Rock Falls (ten minute walk from the cottage). More than a mile of the Dwarfskill, which is a naturally-reproducing trout stream, runs through the property.

The cabin is located six miles from Milford, PA, which Atlantic Magazine once called “the prettiest county seat in America”; three-quarters of the village is in a National Historic District and it galleries, antiques, coffee shops, boutiques and specialty shopping.

Heritage attractions include Grey Towers (Richard Morris Hunt-designed 19th c. stone mansion), The Columns Museum (featuring the blood-stained Lincoln flag, which cushioned the President's head moments after he was shot) and the Hotel Fauchere/Relais & Chateau (see website at hotelfauchere) with its three restaurants, patisserie, day spa, vintage menu collection and permanent exhibit of Hudson River School paintings.

Great stay with pups
Great quiet weekend on the preserve - we saw turkeys, deer and wood chucks. Very good variety of restaurants and walks in/around Milford!

Peaceful stay
We enjoyed a peaceful long weekend at this beautiful property. We stayed in the cottage, which was rustic, and true to the photos. It's worth noting that there is also a screened-in porch, which is wonderful after sun-down. We ate all our meals at the picnic table so we could drink in the beauty of nature that surrounds this serene property. The creek is an easy walk, very cold (!) and there is a big swimming hole, which was quite refreshing. We appreciated that Sean and Javier met us when we arrived quite late at night to welcome us to the property.

Beautiful and secluded
We wanted a place with as little interaction with people as possible. There’s a town not too far if socializing is your thing but for us, it was about campfire, grilling, and exploring. The creek is great view and can follow it in either direction to see it in its natural condition. Just be wary that the terrain as is not optimal for people with movement difficulty or young children. We was always alert for the possibility of a black bear but did not notice any. The clean air, lush green, wind rustles, creek water, and aves animals set a nice atmosphere. Overall we had a great time and the wife didn’t want to go back home.

A cut way, way above the ordinary
My son and I loved being in a 600-acre preserve with a series of wild, utterly remote waterfalls. The cottage we rented was perfect for us--pine walls, ceiling, and floors, a kitchen and bathroom with all the necessaries, the best in comfortable beds. We especially appreciated the works of art on the wall. The "Reliquariarum," for example, is a stunning, thoughtful-provoking, amazing piece, a far cry from the cloying cutsie decorations often found in these remote cabins.

Rugged awesomeness
My friends and I stayed at this Cabin for 5 nights. The surroundings are serene, rugged and beautiful. There is a creek nearby that you can hear from the cabin. The cabin is clean with just what you need for a relaxing stay. There is a huge lawn with a fire pit, Adirondack chairs and a charcoal grill. We enjoyed a campfire every night. There are a mosquitos and flies so be prepared with a repellent.

Not great
Not child friendly. Swimming seemed a bit dangerous. Fishing was limited due to trees fallen in the water. Path to water is quite strenuous. Environment around cabin was nice, cabin was cozy, but wouldn't rent again.

Great stay!
Loved how quiet the property was, the only thing you could hear was the water fall that was nearby. Great that there were trails to explore. The screened back porch with a ceiling fan was also great, we had great afternoons just laying out there reading. Loved this cabinand hope to come back!

Cottage
It was nice and quiet place to stay, it was pretty much as listed except for the pictures made it look a lot bigger then it was. Also we ran out of hot water every time we took showers. And the beds weren’t best. But otherwise it was absolutely awesome. And very beautiful on the hiking trails and by the water falls.

Great Winter Weekend Getaway!
We had a wonderful experience. We were on over 500 acres of beautiful land with waterfalls and rivers. We loved the wood burning stove, very cozy. The accommodations were rustic and very nice and clean. Exactly what we were looking for! I would recommend removing the newly fallen trees in the river. The town is close by, quaint and the people are very nice!

Pleasant few days in the woods
This slightly rustic cabin was really nice for two; not sure about four people unless it is warm enough to use the porch. Cozy is an apt description. The check in process was excellent and we appreciated having a "guide." We never did figure out how to use the woodburning stove but the heat was adequate. The kitchen is ok, and we used it alot due to COVID, but we had to improvise a bit. I suggest people bring some of their favorite pans and utensils. There is no cookie sheet , mixing bowls, or large salad bowl, for example. There is a drip coffee maker, but no electric griddle for pancakes. Also, if it has been raining, consider buying or bringing in some dry firewood. We used the fire ring, but it was a struggle! Wifi was spotty but existant, but wasn't why we were there. All in all, very nice peaceful stay.

Wonderful Cottage, but Challenging Beds
We spent Columbus Day weekend at the Knotty Pine Cottage. The location is lovely, especially with the Fall foliage peaking. We enjoyed sitting around the fire pit and barbecuing on the grill. The cabin is delightfully rustic and comfortable ... except for the beds. The mattresses are saggy and we had a hard time getting to sleep. Other than the beds, we had a fun and relaxing stay. We would recommend the property to visitors and recommend to the owners that they consider upgrading the mattresses.

Peaceful getaway!
Had a wonderful few days at Dwarfskill Preserve. While there were a few small issues, most related to a storm that was completely out of the owners control, he was responsive and very helpful!. The cottage was clean, the property is gorgeous and the area lovely. We're definitely hoping to get back here some day!

secluded and beautiful
We (me, my husband, and my toddler) had a lovely stay at this property for three days in August. I was a bit apprehensive about renting a place with two other rentals close by, but in fact there was a lot of privacy; the cottage faces away from the cabin and house, towards a private meadow. The screened-in porch was a welcome amenity, and the cottage was a good space for our family--with one story it was easy to keep an eye on our daughter. The property itself is spectacular: you are halfway or more down a steep, wooded hill, with a stream further down. The waterfalls are beautiful and the swimming holes refreshing. I appreciated that we were met in Milford by one of the owners, whom we followed to the property. This is unusual for rentals in this area, but it was very nice to get information from a person rather than a sheet of paper. I imagine we will come back and I recommend it to anyone looking for some time away.

Great fun
Location is amazing. The creek is beautiful and swimming in the pools below the waterfalls is amazing. The cottage is rustic but nice. WiFi signal is weak so don’t plan on using it a lot but that was the nice part. We read books, played games and had bon fires. We plan on returning.

Everything was great and relaxing. The places was very clean. Wish the trails were better marked, we found ourselves just walking through the woods making our own trial mostly.

Owner is a writer and investor who lives in nearby Milford and New York City. Loves dogs, nature, reading and gentle, kind people.

Why they chose this property

I bought the property because it is exceedingly private, evokes a spiritual connection to nature and it is movie-set gorgeous. It is also close to NYC, only 75 miles away, but it feels like you’re in the Canadian northwoods or somewhere far away from the stresses and pressures of urban life.

What makes this property unique

Mushrooming; trout fishing; hiking; wildlife including black bear, deer, wild turkey, mountain lion. Very few mosquitoes (the bats eat them.)

Pond; stream; waterfall; swimming hole.

Exceptional privacy, half-mile long driveway.

The Historic Village of Milford - the birthplace of the American Conservation movement - is only 6 miles away, with heritage & cultural attractions, antiques and great restaurants (including the Delmonico Room, Bar Louis & the Patisserie Fauchere at The Hotel Fauchere, co-owned by the owner of this cottage).

70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
