About this property

Muskoka Cottage on Small Bay with access to large lake

Very private cottage on a small bay of a much larger lake. Only one neighbor, surrounded by crown land. Main cottage has one master bedroom with king bed, newly renovated bathroom with shower and laundry, kitchen including a small dishwasher, dining room, and living room. Bunkie has two bedrooms each with a queen bed, as well with a half-bathroom. Access to the water both from the dock and from the sandy beach. Living room has a pull-out couch to accommodate more guests. Guests can enjoy satellite TV as well as a collection of DVDs and boardgames on those rare rainy days (we also provide an hdmi cable should you want to bring a computer with your own movies and tv shows).

Guests coming with kids can enjoy the sandy beach which is shared with our single neighbour (our family). There is a platform which you can swim to to jump off of, and we also have 2 canoes, 2 kayaks, and 2 paddle boards which you may use at your own responsibility (paddles included, please bring life jackets). If you have any dogs, please feel free to bring them along! Our two pups, love running around the 2 acres of property.

With a private driveway, and close access to Mactier complete with a grocery store, hardware store and LCBO you will always have those necessities near at hand. Further, with little traffic, there is excellent terrain for walks with your entire family. Port Carling is also only a 40 minute drive away, with many shops and restaurants - enjoy a day out experiencing the Muskoka culture. If you would like some nightlife, you can visit the same Port Carling, or travel only 10 minutes further to Bala, both with excellent bars and clubs.

Our property is very picturesque, with the cottage sitting directly on the Canadian Shield, and over 650 ft of waterfront. Enjoy breakfast as the sun comes up over the bay, surrounded by crown land. Or sip your morning coffee from the peacefulness of the Muskoka chairs by the lake. On a clear night, the stars are phenomenal, influenced by no light pollution. When it starts to get a little chilly, or you just want to roast some marshmallows, feel free to make use of either our outdoor fire pit near the water or our outdoor, antique wood stove where you can safely enjoy a fire with your family and friends (subject to local fire regulations).

Pictures don’t do this place justice
I can’t begin to say how much we loved this place. It truly is serene! There are no neighbours on the the whole one side of the cottage which made it feel even more secluded. There’s everything you need at the cottage. We felt we just home away from home. The view every morning is breathtaking. We couldn’t get enough! Everything is so perfectly thought out for its purpose and location. We also really enjoyed building fires. And we’re so happy we were able to bring our fur pup with us as well. Some things to keep in mind, there’s about 8 mins of dirt road to the cottage from the main road. Don’t get a car wash before or if you have a 4x4 bring that. There’s also no AC at the main unit which worked out for us since it cooled down at nights and we had the windows open but make sure to check that weeks temperature. We loved the cottage so much we’re hoping to come back again and again! Jessica was awesome at responding and helping out with anything we needed. This cottage was just perfect for us and what we were looking for. Thank you!

Amazing spot in the Wilderness
Great vacation spot on lake Healey! The property was what we expected- had all the amenities we needed, good sheets, dishes, laundry soap, diswasher tabs etc. which is great to to have to worry about on vacation. The access to the water is amazing...many different spots to choose from (beach area, rocks, dock etc.). which makes it fun for our teenagers and dog :). You have sand for a little bit and after it's lake mud but that doesn't bother us. We used the Canoe and Kayaks quite a bit to discover the lake and went to a spot that the owner recommended to us to jump from a small cliff... lot's of fun! We loved that there was a fireplace up close to the property and lounge chairs. Bedrooms were comfortable although I would recommend adding some curtains to ALL the windows/ doors for the bunkie as the sun gets up early and we don't on vacation :). It would also be great to have an additionnal fridge because with 2 adults and 4 teenagers and food for almost a week, it would be great to have a separate fridge for the drinks (just an idea!) Owner was very fast and courteous in responding to the emails. Overall amazing week and perfect spot for a family that want a relaxing vacation to the sound of the looneys in the morning!

The Perfect Spot!!
I really cannot say enough about this cottage. It is clean, well appointed, roomy and comfortable. Communication with Jessica was easy. We knew she was a quick email or phone call away if anything was to arise. Our boys and our dog loved running around the property! Kids jumping off the dock, fishing, kayaking, splashing at the beach. The cottage was hot when we opened it up, but as soon as those windows and doors are open the breeze off the water was absolutely lovely. It cooled everything right down. We were not expecting the bunkies by the water to be two separate rooms. With our two boys I was not sure at first, but they loved having their own private rooms! There is a pull out double couch in the main cottage for younger ones. Lots of room! Loons calling in the bay, beautiful sunsets, gorgeous pines, Canadian Shield on display. But if you can say up for it, watch that sky at night - WOW - the stars and that Mikly Way in all it's glory!! Everything Muskoka has to offer! We will definitely be back! Thank-you!!

Beautiful quiet location, stunning sunset and night sky!!
Extremely well looked after, love the fact you can drink the water straight from the tap. They have a outstanding filtration system, no need to drag in bottled water. Great deck, excellent BBQ dishwasher and laundry. All in all a very well maintained and equipped location!!!

2018 Summer Vacation at Healey Lake
This is the second summer vacation we have had at this cottage and we hope it becomes an annual trek! We love the cottage (it is spacious and comfortable) and the property is spectacular. This is a well-maintained and nicely appointed vacation spot. Since last year, the owners added a new water filtration system, a new dock, new dishes, an electric fireplace and new deck lounge chairs ... and we already thought it was perfect! We made use of the canoe at the cottage and rented a boat for a couple of days from Mariners Cove Marina. We had a pile of fun in the water. The fishing is great right off the dock so if you are considering this property for a vacation, bring your rod. We highly recommend this cottage.

Clean and well maintained, beautiful view!
We had a great week in September to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary, thanks to our family. The cottage is in a beautiful location with easy access to the water. Small sandy beach that provided a great place for our young granddaughter to wade out. Mactier is close by for groceries and supplies at the Foodland and Home Hardware and has a LCBO which is also convenient. I caught a 4lb Northern Pike while fishing from the dock!! Tree colours we're just starting to change. Thank you to Adam and Jessica.

Fantastic Muskoka Vacation
We rented the McCabe's cottage from August 11-18, 2017. We had a fantastic vacation there. The cottage is completely charming and comfortable and the property is gorgeous. Everything we wanted in a vacation spot was there - the use of a canoe for early morning fishing trips, lovely outdoor seating areas, great deck seating and BBQ, life jackets and pool noodles for lots of water activity, and a well-equipped kitchen. We simply loved this place and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great getaway location.

Great cottage on a quiet lake
We stayed a week at the cottage. It was perfect for us. We had some friends and family join us and there was lots of room for 8 people. The cottage is on a beautiful piece of land with many areas you can walk into the water. We used the canoe and kayaks every day we were there. Our dog loved playing on the rocks and in the water. A short drive to mactier which has everything you would need for your stay - foodland, lcbo, home hardware. Lots of different sitting areas around the cottage deck and throughout the property. Owners were quick to deal with any problems that arose during our stay - handy having their family next door.

A great find !
We all quickly fell in love with this amazing place. A beautiful and comfortable cottage, a perfect location, privacy, quiet most of the time, modern appliances, comfortable beds, clean, and, bonus of all bonuses, dogs welcomed! The first clue that we had hit a jackpot came when our three-year-old spaniel madly ran around the property for 5 minutes when we arrived… like he had found heavens. We were 4 adults, one child, and the spaniel, and we had plenty of space, in or outside of the buildings. Two sides of the cottage face the lake and both sides have a deck - which are connected. The deck closest to the kitchen has a large wooden table that will comfortably sit 6 people, with a great Napoleon BBQ. The deck off the living / dining room has a smaller breakfast table and lounging chairs, and there are other loungers and Muskoka chairs on the property. Our 8-year-old granddaughter had a blast exploring the site, playing on the dock, catching (and releasing) minnows and frogs, kayaking (BYO PFD for proper fit), or in the water with everyone else. Our 81 year old mother needed help to walk around the property as it is not flat, but she did go in the water every day. Cyclists will need a touring bike for the gravel road – as I did, (I made it up the hill going out!) or, drive out to the paved roads with your road bike and ride Healey Lake road to Georgian Bay. There is a tennis court near the marina close by if tennis is your thing, but we never used it so enquire first – there may be a fee. The owners are very friendly, easy going, accommodating, and, pay attention to details, right down to the flower beds on the property. They obviously love this place - and so did we.

Hidden gem
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This beautiful cottage met all of our expectations: private (the kids loved exploring the little bay in kayaks and fishing in it's undisturbed waters), the truely lovely Muskoka landscape, the rustic yet clean cabin, and the little beach. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

About the host

I grew up going to the cottage next door, which my grandparents still own to this day. My husband and I live in Kitchener. We met each other at Queen's University, where we earned a math degree together. I now work in commercial real estate well he works in FinTech. We have 2 dogs named George and Charlie, who enjoy the cottage as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We bought this property off of my grandparents, who own the cottage next door, which is the only neighbor. Owning this cottage allows us to enjoy an area that I have been going to since I was born. Now, we can share this space with my husband's family, as well as our guests!

What makes this property unique

The cottage property faces South - West, allowing for all-day sun exposure on different parts of the property and the view of a beautiful sunset every evening, from perfectly positioned Muskoka chairs. The sandy beach is perfect for smaller children, as well the swimming dock allows for older kids (and adults) to have fun jumping into the water. Being on the bay means that it is quiet, but the large lake allows for boating.
