About this property
Charming Cottage on Trout Stream in peaceful Star Tannery with EV Charger
Welcome to Cedar Creek Cottage, your charming retreat in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. Nestled on the banks of Cedar Creek, this secluded haven offers over 300 yards of private, trout stream. It's the perfect spot to reconnect with nature and rejuvenate your spirit. Enjoy nearby wineries, hike or bike on picturesque trails, or unwind by the cozy fireplace and firepit. With a fully equipped traditional kitchen and a gas grill for outdoor cooking, Cedar Creek Cottage is your ideal getaway!
The space
Welcome to our fantastic rural cottage, secluded on over 70 acres along the serene banks of Cedar Creek! If you're seeking peace and privacy, this is the perfect getaway for you. Nestled a quarter mile off a quiet back road, you won't encounter any passing cars—just pure tranquility. For our eco-conscious guests, we offer a Level 2 charger for your EV, included with your stay.
One of the highlights of our property is the immediate access to over 300 yards of Cedar Creek’s fishing banks, just steps from your front door. The soothing sounds of the creek provide a relaxing backdrop, perfect for wading in the water or trying your luck at fishing. You might catch native trout, smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed fish, and creek chubs.
Our charming cottage features three private bedrooms, a loft, one full bath, and one half bath. We can also provide two modest camping-style cots upon request at no extra charge. Guests are welcome to camp outside with their own tents within the property bounds.
For fishing enthusiasts, we offer the option to stock Cedar Creek with Rainbow Trout for your stay. Rates vary, but in Spring 2024, stocking 60 adult rainbow trout (10"-14") was approximately $275. Imagine the thrill of catching a Golden Trout! If this interests you, just let us know.
If hiking is your passion, you'll love the trails to the top of Little North Mountain, starting right on our property. Suitable for both novice and advanced hikers, the trails offer breathtaking views and a rewarding adventure. Novice hikers should stick to the trail, while advanced hikers can blaze their own path to the summit.
To enhance your stay, we provide firewood at no cost (while supplies last) for cozy campfires in the fire pit or warming up indoors with the fireplace or woodstove.
We look forward to hosting you at our idyllic retreat, where nature and relaxation await!

Other things to note
Water and Wildlife Information
Water Source
The property uses water from a private well, which is "hard water" and may have a sulfur-like odor at times, resembling the smell of eggs. While some people appreciate the rich mineral content for its potential skin benefits, others may not. The water is safe for bathing. I always try to remember to ask potential guests to acknowledge this before I confirm, so if you have read this please include an acknowledgement regarding the water condition in your initial note to me - look forward to hearing from you-thanks!
Drinking Water
There is no need to bring bottled water. We provide 5-gallon jugs of drinking water for your use. Just bring your thermos!
Wildlife
The Cedar Creek valley is home to numerous and unique wildlife, including otters, bald eagles, snapping turtles, snakes, bugs, and sometimes mice. You might see deer at sunrise or sunset. Bears have been spotted on the top of the mountain but are elusive and are rarely encountered.
Safety
We prioritize your safety. Always supervise children, especially near the creek, and never leave them unattended near the water.
