About this property

NEW! Bright and Cheerful Historic Cottage in Woodstock

Step into a piece of history! Built in 1930 by Bolton Brown, an original founder of the Woodstock Artist Colony, this Arts and Crafts-style cottage is a true gem. Home is artfully decorated and filled with light and creative energy. Nestled on 1.4 private acres of wooded land, it offers a tranquil, treehouse-like atmosphere to connect with nature.

Cook in the charming country kitchen. Relax in the cozy living room, originally an artist’s studio. Unwind in the unique sunken tub that overlooks the surrounding forest through a large bay window.

There are two bedrooms that are both bright and airy. The primary bedroom downstairs has a queen-size bed, a private sitting area, and its own entrance. The main-floor guest room offers a full-size bed and a large window ledge overlooking the Sawkill River. The living room includes a queen-sized lofted bed, perfect for lounging or accommodating extra guests.

Outside, you’ll find ample space to enjoy nature, including a spacious deck and a screened-in porch with an overhead fan and dining table, ideal for summer meals.

Located in the hamlet of Zena, just 3 miles from the town of Woodstock, you’ll have the best of both worlds: enjoy live music, eclectic restaurants, and shops, or stay in for a peaceful evening by the fire.

Please note: The front entrance of the home is accessible via a set of stairs. Guests should be comfortable with stairs to enjoy their stay.

We welcome well behaved dogs for an additional pet fee of $75. The yard is not fully fenced, so we recommend keeping your dog on a leash or under close supervision when outside.

Cottage in Woodstock

My husband and I had a wonderful stay. Kristin was quick to respond, provided easy and accurate check in instructions, and even came by in the morning after a snowstorm to shovel the stairs and driveway. The house itself is so great! Pictured as is from the listing- clean, well stocked kitchen, eclectically and thoughtfully designed, and working fireplace with wood provided was definitely a plus. If you’re planning a trip to the Woodstock area, I would highly recommend Kristin’s place and we will definitely be back.

Hi, I’m Kristin! I’ve always loved the Hudson Valley, and four years ago, I was fortunate to purchase a home in Woodstock. After living in New York City for over 10 years (which I'm often back and forth to for work), I’ve found Woodstock to be the perfect weekend getaway—close enough to commute yet full of small-town charm, a vibrant creative community, and a lively nightlife scene. I fell in love with this beautiful historic house and am excited to share both the property and the relaxed, inspiring vibe of the area with others.

What makes this property unique

I fell in love with this quirky little house the moment I saw it. It was hand-built in 1930 by Bolton Brown, founder of the Woodstock Artist Colony and a famed lithographer. After his passing, it was sold to another local artist, Kurt Sluizer, and his wife. Since then, it has been home to writers, fashion photographers, and even the pioneering punk band Bad Brains. The house exudes artistic energy, with its treehouse vibe offering a relaxing wake-up experience and fun for all ages. It truly is a gem of a home and an unforgettable place to stay.
