Sounds of the Jungle

8 in our group and for some it was their 3rd time back. Puerto Jimenez has grown considerably since our last time here. However, this place is off the beaten path ,still fairly secluded, and with the beach a short walk away, which is what we were looking for. Carlos is there to keep an eye on things and help however was needed. He is so kind and always has a smile and a Pura Vida for you. Chon our chef was incredible! If you don't speak Spanish have a translation app downloaded to help with communication. Jackie the housekeeper was also wonderful and kept the house clean daily. While we were there it was very warm and humid and the pool was appreciated to cool down. We had all the jungle sounds throughout the day and night. As well as visits from the howler, squirrel, and capuchin monkeys. We also saw many other jungle creatures right on the property. Definitely an adventure we will cherish and talk about for years to come.

Spring Break Trip (Family of 8, with 6 kids)

Excited about unique home, but expected some breeze given proximity to beach. Given how far back home is set in the jungle that was not the case. While house has ceiling fans, one in kitchen didn't work, and wasn't fixed despite us reporting. Many bugs in master, no other rooms had issues. We almost moved to a hotel the first evening (it was that bad), but we stuck it out. Enjoyed the pool (Carlos kept it clean each day!) and ended up making some great memories. -Capuchin monkeys on the property were a highlight! Being awakened by howler monkeys each morning at 4am was a surprise. We were warned upon arrival, but I wasn't aware when we booked. No way to sleep through this as it's VERY loud and quite frightening, but just went to bed early to be prepared to wake early. -Can't say enough good things about Chef Chon. Everything he served for dinner & breakfast was out of this world. -No dryer, only washer..hang on lines -Need to buy water..told better to not drink from tap. -Beach time was minimal as black sand too hot and the under toe was too dangerous. -Cab rides are VERY expensive. Rent car instead. -Book excursions before arrival. We were told we could wait for some, but then wasn't able to except snorkeling, which was disappointing. 2 hr ride to/from the boat..served picnic on beach no restaurant...didn't see much in a 8 hr excursion. -Necklace disappeared from our room, but Jackie (maid) was relentless in searching and found it after we left. Had swept it onto the roof.

BEST place to see the Osa !

I stayed with my family, three children ages 8, 12, 14. I feel like I couldn’t have picked a better Place to enjoy all that the Osa peninsula has to offer. The house is stunning and situated on the most private property. From the house we saw sooo many monkeys, birds and butterflies. The beach is just a short walk away, again, so private and beautiful. I suggest going to the point to swim where the water is calm. We were well taken care of by all the staff and we felt very safe there. We were able to enjoy so many outings all not far from the house. It was such a treat to have Chon cook for us, his food is delicious!! We let him decide what to make and it was so nice to not have to worry about cooking and cleaning. It truly was a trip of a lifetime!! You won’t regret staying here!!! I do suggest bringing a portable usb fan to have at night as the ceiling fans are not that powerful. The pool was such a nice way to cool off. With kids, the pool was essential! I hope I get to say at casa Atrevida again.

Amazing experience and adventure

Down a fun road, nicely secluded is the property. Beautifully manicured gardens line the driveway and walking paths with natural jungle overhead and all around. Gracias Carlos! Birds and monkeys were common visitors. When you approach the casa it lives up to the pictures. The casa is perched on pillars that elevate the walkways and living areas high enough to hover above the gardens for open views of the jungle surroundings. The rooms are spacious, each with their own private bathrooms. Clean and comfortable, gracias Jackie. We are two families, the rooms are grouped on either side of the 2nd floor walkway. The youngest child was 9. I would not bring toddlers or very busy minors that need constant supervision. Open views equals no railings on lower floors. Living area is welcoming and was great for hanging out. Kitchen has all necessities. Chef Chon was excellent! He had amazing meals ready for us and kept the kitchen spotless. The short walk back down the driveway, cross the road, walk through an archway covered with natural vegetation, palm trees, and the massive beach. The water and sand was great for our 9-10 year olds for playing in the small surf with no undertow. Water temperature was warm and relaxing. The pool is perfect, it has sitting areas like a hot tub. The middle was surprisingly deep, with cool refreshing water. The jungle was alive throughout the day, and at times, intense(howler monkeys) at night. Awesome experience! Gracias team Atrevida.

Living in the wild

We had a great time at casa atrevida at the beginning of March. We stayed for one week. We had howler monkeys living in the trees all around us so that took some getting used to but they are so cute. There was even one carrying a baby on her back! The house is very much in a wild setting with the beach only 2 minutes away. We had to learn to live with frogs, bats and lizards (and sometimes other creatures) in our rooms but we got used to it. The road in is a wild ride with all its car swallowing potholes lol. Pascal helped us book some amazing tours (loved la perica sloth garden and kayaking). Vladimir was always around keeping the grounds clean and helping us out and Carlos always had the pool super clean as well. Jacqui was there every day to clean the rooms and the house. Last but not least was Chon, the super amazing chef. Every meal was amazing. We werent sure what to buy so we gave him money and he did the shopping for us. That man is super talented! I loved the openness of the house and how there was nature all around us. We saw howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, a capuchin stopped by one day, scarlet macaws, parakeets, trogons, frogs, crabs, bats, basilisk lizards and more! The beach was basically secluded and the sunrises were beautiful. We always saw macaws flying by and caracaras on the beach or in the trees. We adored the dog Drako that lived on the grounds. He always came by to visit, get pets and hang out. Overall, we loved the place and all the people!

Great place to relax and enjoy the "Pura Vida"

My wife and I and an older couple stayed four nights. The house is of exceptional quality and very comfortable. Pascal and Vladimir were extremely helpful in making sure everything was to our satisfaction. Chon, the cook, prepared a number of meals for us and they were delightful. The sounds of nature (birds and monkeys) were a joy to hear and experience. On one note of caution....the main road to the property from Puerto Jimenez had really deteriorated from a year earlier (when we had stayed at a neighboring property) to the point that without an SUV it is nearly impossible to get to the house due to the many deep ruts in the road. Hopefully the he road will be regraded soon.

Wonderful!

Our stay at the property was short but wonderful. We would stay here agin in a heartbeat. The people: Upon our arrival to Casa Atrevida, we were greeted by Pascal, Carlos and Vlad. We really appreciated this warm welcome! Also, thanks to the Welcome Book that we received prior to our arrival, we knew exactly what to expect and the staff and the property did not disappoint. Pascal is a superb communicator and made sure that all questions and wishes (last minute arrival dinner! - Thank you) were addressed. Carlos and Vlad took care of the property (the property is well maintained!) and we truly enjoyed the occasional conversation on our way to or out of the property. And of course, I can not omit Chon, the chef, from this review. If you are planning on staying at this property, you MUST try his dishes. All his meals were delicious and there was plenty of food for everybody. He is a master of his trade! No doubt here! We still talk about Chon and his cooking! The beach: The beach in front and is beautiful and we had the whole stretch of the beach as far as we could see to ourselves. The wildlife: it surrounds you even if you don't see it, it is there! Be sure of it - it is Osa Peninsula! One day we had a troop of capuchin monkeys climbing all over the trees and the roof of the house. We enjoyed watching them from up close as they kept the safe distance from us. The house: The house is well designed and well maintained. The main part of the house, as shown on the pictures, is an open-air concept space. We were in Osa at the beginning of the rainy season but never had any issues with mosquitos. We occasionally applied standard amount of bug cream and were OK (note: we also treated our clothes prior to our trip to CR). There is a small pool but we never used it. General: This property is perfect for people that enjoy nature and don't mind being surrounded by it. We found the description of the house and pictures to be accurate. I would encourage everybody to also check out the Casa Atrevida website. I think the website is well designed. We really enjoyed it! We will be back - Thank you.

Perfect Place to Stay on the Osa

This place is the perfect place to stay on the Osa. We've stayed elsewhere in the area and were blown away by this property and will definitely be back. Here are some highlights. THE HOUSE The house is absolutely beautiful. The open-air downstairs with a great hangout area for our group of eight. Insects weren't much of a problem with bug spray. We brought a couple backpacking chairs which added some options for seating downstairs but weren't necessary. We also spent a lot of time on the upper deck (with the chairs) for birdwatching and the views up there of the canopy. The internet was okay for loading web pages, but don't expect to use it for reliable video/voice calls (just go to the Iguana Lodge if you need that). The beds were comfortable, and we slept great. The pool was a wonderful place to cool off and has perfect seating built in for lounging in the water. SERVICES Vladimir and his father were INCREDIBLY helpful to us. They live close by on the same property and were always available for questions on the house/properties or questions about the area or where we should go. They made sure we were comfortable, and we had everything we needed. Their friendly demeanor and genuine care for us was the highlight of our stay. They truly worked hard to make sure we had the best time. They kept the grounds spotless and the pool perfect. We really loved how they always greeted us with a huge smile and made us feel like we were at home. Chon cooked for us for our trip. His food was healthy, delicious, and creative. We were a bit apprehensive about having a chef at the start (because we all love to cook), but quickly realized that Chon was much better than we are! His use of local ingredients and attention to dietary restrictions was amazing and we looked forward to all his meals! Pascal was communicative and helped us by WhatsApp with any questions we had. He setup a few activities for us which were amazing - the highlight was the release of baby sea turtles into the ocean. He made sure we had groceries and water when we arrived. Jackie cleaned the house daily. We swam at the beach multiple times a day and she always made sure we had fresh towels. She was great about being non-intrusive too - we've never had someone clean while we were on vacation, and she was wonderful. SUMMARY Really, I don't think there is a better place to stay on the Osa if you want an entire house to yourself. 10/10 would recommend.

Nature Abounds

We had the most amazing experience at Casa Atrevida! Monkeys at our doorstep each and every day. Macaws, tree frogs, and more! Amazing privacy and footsteps from a beautiful beach! Walked for miles on the beach without seeing another soul. Had never stayed anywhere with a cook before, and it was totally worth it. They were the best meals of our entire trip. I wish we could live there. Will definitely stay there again if we return to the Osa Peninsula!

OSA Amazing!

Our group of 9 adults stayed 9 nights in February. The house and property are beautiful and the surrounding scenery is mind-bogglingly pristine, serene and peaceful. Carlos the groundskeeper/security guy was jovial and congenial and ever so accommodating. Jaqui, the housekeeper, quietly kept the common areas, bedrooms and bathrooms clean and refreshed. Pablo, the chef, is enviably talented, super friendly, and prepared for us whatever we requested...including surf and turf at the beach, with a bonfire. The wildlife sightings included countless howler monkeys, white face capuchin monkeys, scarlet macaws, bats, iguanas, leaf cutter ants, blue morpho butterflies, possum, coatis, dolphins, flying fish, crocodiles, whales, a scorpion, a snake, and lots more. The entire experience was amazing and the service was top-notch "pura vida".

We loved Casa Atrevida!!

I cannot say enough good things about this property. We came to Costa Rica to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation. My husband and I, our 18-year-old daughter, 14-year-old son and a friend of my daughters. The house is beautiful. Jackie, the housekeeper came every morning to straighten up. I highly recommend paying for Pablo to cook for you. His dishes were amazing....fried plantains, fresh Pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, pancakes and eggs for breakfast, fresh fish, Gallo Pinto, I could go on and on. He made a different kind of delicious fresh fruit juice every night and my kids loved that. Pablo does not speak very much English but my daughter's friend is fluent in Spanish so it worked out well. The house was a perfect get-a-way for family time with no internet and no tv. We saw monkeys every day in the front and backyard. The Howler monkeys were our alarm clocks at around 4:45 am every morning. I truly didn't feel the need to go on any wildlife tours because we had that in our backyard!! We had our own private beach where we paddle boarded every day (we brought our own). The pool was a perfect way to cool off after a day at the beach. My 14-year-old definitely got our money's worth out of the pool. We went at the end of May so it was warm without air conditioner, but it wasn't unbearable, and the ceiling fans kept you cool at night. You most definitely need to wear bug spray at all times, and you will see an occasional frog sitting beside you in the living room. Pascal was super helpful with suggestions on where to go and he checked in on us every day. Everything about the staff and the property was fabulous. If you want a true Costa Rican, Pura Vita experience, in a non-touristy area and you love adventure then this is the place for you! Pura Vita

Beautiful, special home with the best of the jungle and beach

Our stay at this home is quite possibly my favorite vacation rental we have ever found! This house is magnificent, the pictures cannot adequately capture the quality of the home. We loved interacting with Carlos who is the caretaker who lives in front of the property - he is so kind and helpful! Pablo is a fantastic chef and made some truly delicious meals. We spent our days enjoying the proerty, hiking around, watching the monkeys in the trees and many species of birds, and we loved the beach access. The beach is gorgeous and no one is around. We loved ot play in the surf, walk the beach, play frisbee and watch the sunsets. We did a day hike in Corcovado and cannot recomend that enough if you enjoy wildlife and nature. Johanna was our contact and she went above and beyond with her helpfulness and kindness. This place was truly special and our favorite part of our Costa Rica trip. And if you are worried about no A/C, we were there in April, the hottest month, and were so very comfortable at night with the breeze and fan. I truly hope we cna make it back to this splendid place one day.

A Gem Surrounded by wildlife

Our family of 9 stayed here for 7 nights. It is a beautiful home that 2 of us had been to before. There is no A/C in the bedrooms, if that is a must you may want to consider staying elsewhere. The wildlife surrounding the home is incredible and can be loud at all hours of the day. If you want a true jungle experience you will get it here. The chef Pablo made incredible dishes with great flavor. He doesn't speak English and I think a few things were lost in translation but the food was delicious. There is a washer and dryer onsite which we knew and planned accordingly bringing less clothing with. Sadly the dryer was not working and with the humidity we had a very difficult time getting our clothes dry. This was a pretty big inconvenience as the clothes did not smell good after hang drying. Carlos lives in a home on the property and keeps an eye on things. He is a great guy that always had a smile and was willing to help in anyway. We all felt extremely safe and comfortable with him there. All in all it was a good stay and we made great memories there.

Paradise by the beach

A unique and fabulous property. We enjoyed the unique house and having the private chef was wonderful. I cannot praise Pablo enough...fresh food prepared in imaginative ways. Waking to howler monkeys was unique. Service was excellent and the beach was as wonderful as described. We hope to be back. The only slight negative...the beds were hard for my taste and the local bird tour guide suggested by Pascal was a complete waste of time and money...we saw more birds on our own...when a bird guide shows up in flip flops with no spotting scope just say no! We should have gone on the tour to the Chocolate Farm which was fabulous...we stopped on our way out and regretted not making time to book a tour..and you do need a reservation! Overall I loved this property.

Beautiful indoor outdoor house in a wildlife paradise

Casa Atrevida was astounding in person, the pictures don't capture it's full beauty. Within minutes of arriving we found a sloth in one of the trees where we parked. We saw all four species of monkeys in Costa Rica from the house and on the walkways to the beach, including squirrel monkeys! The bamboo and teak wood used in the architecture are beautiful and sturdy. The highlight of our stay more than these aspects was Pablo, the professional chef that comes to cook three meals a day. His cooking was so creative and beautiful. He cooked almost all vegan food for us and it was fantastic! We loved Pablo and his cooking. That was a beautiful part of our day, three times a day. The first night was my dad's birthday and he prepared a gorgeous fruit cake. Thank you Pablo! The beach out front is gorgeous and perfect for swimming. We found little creatures and fish right there and saw pelicans, scarlet macaws, toucans, and hawks along the beach and at the house. The house flows with nature, the animals travel around and sometimes through it while the property still maintains the feel of an upscale eco villa. We can't wait to come back to the Osa and I would never stay anywhere else.

An incredible property with a superb support team. Make this your home base for exploring Osa.

If you are considering visiting Osa, you no doubt possess an adventurous spirit and are open to new discoveries. Stay at Atrevida and prepare to be astonished, The house is architecturally stunning. The open-air living space anchors the center of the home and provides an inviting common area for conversation and dining. The bedrooms are located at either end if the house allowing a degree of privacy. In terms of the staff Carlos was friendly and kind with a positive personality. Pascal and Gil checked in daily and helped with excursions. We cannot possibly say enough about Pablo - he was one of the highlights of our 11-day visit to CR. He is polite and accommodating. As the chef he prepared a wide variety of flavorful meals, expertly presented. He was unassuming and comfortable remaining in the background even as his meals were very much in the forefront of our daily routine.

Traumhafter Aufenthalt

Kommen gerne wieder!

Absolutely fantastic!

We called this our jungle house before our stay and weren’t disappointed! The main living area and breezeways between bedrooms were completely open to the very private surrounding jungle. We saw Howler monkeys and spider monkeys right on the property from the house. Also seen from the house were a huge iguana, anole lizards, bats and beautiful Scarlet Macaws. Every night we ate by candlelight (citronella that we brought with us) and left the electric lights on by the stairs. After our always fantastic dinner, we had at least three species of frog on the stairs who came for their bug dinners. The night air is filled with the sounds of the jungle. I missed every noise but the cicadas upon our return home. We shelled out the extra $40/day for Pablo to cook three daily meals for us. You’d be crazy not to do this! He is fantastic! Pascal (concierge) came by daily to check on us and was very helpful with reservations. He even shopped for us on day one! Carlos (caretaker) brightened every day with a very friendly “Pura Vida”! He kept the pool very clean and was always friendly and helpful. I never got the maid’s name, but every day she kept the house very clean and nice. The pool is small, but cool and very refreshing after daily activities. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! We all loved it. Of note: the house is raised 5 feet off the ground and there is nothing to keep little ones from falling off the edge. Our 4 year old fell once, learned his lesson (he was fine) and didn’t do it again. For this reason, I would not recommend this house for babies and toddlers. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all enclosed and private, no worries there. We felt very safe here and had a wonderful stay! We hope you do too!

Deluxe Oso beach house

Refreshing, cold and homemade juice beverages were shared upon our arrival. Pablo, our chef, created not only delicious food, but it was beautifully presented as well. We enjoyed bird and monkey watching, beach walks and the zip line tour. Pascal is very helpful. Be sure it have What's App to communicate in CR.

Casa Atrevida is impressive!!

Impressive house, setting and overall experience; would recommend it to anyone who enjoys outdoors and has an adventure loving spirit. The fact that the structure is entirely made out of bambu a truly organic material makes this house very unique and sustainable. The chef Pablo was talented and made our stay very enjoyable. Bedrooms clean and well decorated: simple and truly tropical. I would stay here again anytime!!
