AREA
This Ancient Golden triangle comprises Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Campo de’Fiori, the Jewish Quarter, the Riverside and the Piazza di Torre Argentina, so named by Johann Burchard , master of ceremonies of five popes from 1483, who owned the land in the area on the remains of the Theatre of Pompey and the Pantheon, one of the Ancient World’s best preserved monuments. Also within walking distance is the oldest Jewish quarter of Europe. Established as a result of the Papal bull, by Pope Paul IV in 1555, today the Ghetto is a vibrant quarter packed with many shops, cafés and restaurants, including a number of Kosher establishments and incorporates the Via del Portico d'Ottavia, seat of the ancient Fish Market and boarding the Teatro Marcello, whose construction was planned by Julius Caesar with the intent to rival the Theatre of Pompey in Campo Marzio, inaugurated in 13 B.C.
