Looking forward to a return visit.

Convenient walk to the beach. The owner even provided beach chairs and a cart. The bed was very comfortable, a must for me! The kitchen had everything we needed and plenty of space to work in. We loved the deck and spent lots of time out there. Cant wait for our next visit.

Great location

Really enjoyed the proximity to the beach. House was somewhat dated, but that was fine. We really ljked the deck - If weather had been warmer, we would have enjoyed the deck even more!!

Wonderful stay at Bucky's vacation rental

Cute and cozy little house, I would agree with the capacity of four guests. Worry free check in, that's a plus! House was clean, still had that cleaning smell when we walked in. Good cold A/C. House had everything we needed. Coffee maker is a keurig combo with kcup and the pot. Housekeeper/Manager is very nice! She stayed in communication with us during check in and check out. Short walk to the beach access. Was able to take my fur baby down to the beach with us. Dogs are not allowed on the beach in the State Park. The State Park is very nice though, we went one day out of our trip. Had a great time on St. George Island and would stay at Bucky's again!

Great place to stay with the family and dogs

I loved this place. It was bigger than I expected and all the amenities. We have dogs and they loved the beach. The views are great...I loved sitting on the deck watching the dolphins. The beach was super close and easy walking distance. I will definitely stay there again. Thank you for sharing your home with our family!

Convenient location

Overall good experience. This is a good bungalow home for a couple or family. It is a short walk to the beach and the owner provided nice beach chairs and a beach buggy. The kitchen has all of the necessary basics, the washer & dryer were handy, the outside area was convenient for washing off sand and washing the pets. The deck was large but not screened in.

Great place to stay on an island visit

Bucky, Sorry we missed your call . But no time to stay in with all the great weather we had. Your home was great everything you need on a vacation. My wife and I hope we can do this again next year and if we do Bucky's house is the place to stay. Thanks so much for your concern of our well being during our stay at your home. You and yours have a great year and I hope I will be writing another review next year.

Relaxing and fun week

We had a wonderful week at this beach house. The property was clean and the kitchen was equipped to cook anything you would want. The furniture was comfortable and the deck has plenty of seating. The beach is a short walk away. To our delight, it was not at all crowded. We are especially grateful that we could bring our dog, and he had a fun time chasing crabs. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of St. George Island, spending most of our week just relaxing on the beach. Bucky was great to work with, and we have already recommended his beach house to friends.

Good location

This home is in a good location on the island. It’s an easy walk to the beach. The beach chairs provided are a nice addition, as is the outdoor shower, even though we didn’t use it. Grill worked well (bring charcoal). Beds are comfortable and A/C works well. Kitchen could use an update of cooking utensils. Oven is a wall oven and smaller than a conventional oven. Dishwasher is dated but works well, as does the washer and dryer. There was a bit of miscommunication about trash pick up so it would be wise to confirm pick up days. Overall, we had a really nice stay!

Heavenly!

Very clean, family & pet friendly safe neighborhood and beach! I let my teens bike ride and walk to the beach alone-a first for us! The people are friendly and helpful. The house is beautiful and comfortable-the outside balcony and shower were great! Large selection of board games and books! The State Park was breathtaking, we have never experienced such a clean remote natural beach! I would definately recommend a family trip here! Bucky called moments after we arrived to check on us-I loved that! Such a great personal touch! Thank you Bucky-our vacation was perfection!!

Perfect spring break

I, two papillons and my girlfriend stayed in Bucky's Beach House for a week in April. Weather was fabulous , beach 2 min away, white sand and the quiet place. The house is very clean and comfortable. It has everything you need. My girlfriend has loved sitting and getting tan on the deck. My two pups loved walk on the beach. I have loved everything about St George Island. This was my second trip to this beutifull place. Bucky is a darling to deal with. He will call you and help you with all the needs for your travel and stay in his charming house. The best vacation ever. Thank you Dr. W. Hope to rent from you soon.

Fantastic Holiday Getaway location

My husband and I, along with a couple of our friends stayed for several days over Christmas at this fantastic little house. It was the perfect size for the 4 of us. St. George was a wonderful town and people were scarce at that time of year. The owner of the house was very communicative and he has a local contact who manages the property and she was very communicative as well. We did not need any assistance while there. The house was very easy to access and had plenty of parking. It's nestled into some live oaks so it's very private, while also being just off the main island road. The walk to the beach is about a block, but the house provided beach chairs and a cart. We grilled a couple of times on the two charcoal grills present downstairs. They have a combo Keurig coffee maker where you can brew a pot or K-pods. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. If I had to complain about anything it would probably be the low water pressure, but that's not a deal breaker for me. We cooked a lot while we were there, and the house had just about every kitchen utensil you can think of. The house also has a second refrigerator and a washer & dryer in a room downstairs. Also....the highlight of our stay was the fabulously huge deck out back that we gathered around and talked most of the day. All in all...this was a great VRBO and I highly recommend this location. The owner was very kind and offered many suggestions for things to do in the area. We will be back!

Met our needs

This house was the perfect size for 4 people: Mom/Dad + teenager and a friend. We had a small snafu at check-in, but the host was VERY quick to respond, so it worked out just fine. House needs a little upkeep and is high-level clean, but could use a good deep cleaning. (Cobwebs on ceiling & in corners, doors, cabinets & baseboards were dirty.) Refrigerator was immaculate, so no worries there! Appliances are dated (except microwave) but worked well. Oven is a little small but preheats super fast, and the dishwasher was AWESOME... I miss the good ol' days of having a dishwasher that actually cleans dishes, and this one got the job done beautifully. The coffee maker is duel: pot or Keurig. The "12 pot" mode doesn't work, but you can make 10 pots. BUT BUY WATER FROM THE STORE: The tap water tastes as you'd expect beach tap water to taste. Not a fault of the house... just how it is on the beach. Also, there's zero pantry space, so if you plan on bringing your own food, it'll have to go on the counter... we made it work just fine. W/D downstairs also work really well. Very short walk to an uncrowded beach, and the neighborhood is quiet. There's a wheeled beach chair cart that makes transporting loot to the beach super easy. Best place to eat on SGI is the Blue Parrot... excellent service, too! (And they don't water down their adult drinks!!) But be advised that no coffee places open until 9 AM... so bring your own.

Excellent week in the sun

All three of us (3 middle-aged adults) found Bucky's place to be exactly what the doctor ordered during our early June vacation. We liked the house and its appointments quite a lot. There was a slight problem with the plumbing on our first day, but it was quickly fixed. Bucky was extremely helpful and so was his on-island handyman. Everything worked and the description of the house was as advertised. The house is close to the beach. Although there is no direct access to the Gulf through the "backyard," the walking distance to the beach is still probably under 250 yards--certainly no need for one of the ubiquitous golf carts you see everywhere. An excellent, private, outdoor shower, we used every day. We did not grill out, but the grill seemed to be in good working order. We did cook in the kitchen, which has everything. The freezer portion of the refrigerator makes ice quickly. Interior temperature was nicely cool during a hot week, though the AC seemed to cut off of its own volition during the early morning hours. No real problem. The ceiling fans kept everything comfortable. We have rented a number of houses over the years (west coast, east coast, south coast) and this one ranks high on our list. We would definitely come back. Recommended.

Great property and close proximity to the beach!

I surprised my husband with a trip to St. George Island for his 40th birthday. This was the first time either of us visited SGI so was going to be a new experience for both of us. We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation and loved every minute of it. The property worked extremely well as we had our dogs with us. The dogs quickly adjusted to the new surroundings and absolutely loved going to the beach each day. The house has an outdoor shower and water hose so made bath time for the dogs a breeze. The house was kind of in a "tucked-in" area with trees and provided a some exclusion from the road. We were a close walk to the beach - no complaints at all! The property was clean and well-maintained and everything we basically needed was there at the house. Before we left for SGI, I read other reviews so came prepared with grocery, household and toiletry items. I didn't experience an issue with the clothes dryer as some other renters expressed. The washer and dryer worked perfectly for us. There is a Piggly Wiggly Express, so if you do forget something, you should be able to find it all the grocery store. Wi-fi was a must for me and the wireless internet did not disappoint - had no issues connecting. Probably my only nuisance was the size of the master bedroom bed. We have a king-size bed and I thought the queen would be okay. When you are used to a king, a queen-size feels really tight and we had a few restless nights getting used to the less-width bed. Overall, we were very pleased with Bucky's property and I cannot say enough good things about our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay and highly recommend this area/house to any prospective renters.

Very nice for our family

My husband and I took our two kids (ages 2 and 4) to SGI and stayed here for a week mid July. The home was tidy, well equipped and with plenty of room and comfort. The kitchen is extremely well stocked. You will not have to bring any cooking accessories if you stay here. The only kitchen staples that need to be squeezed in the luggage are dish towels, paper towels, and trash bags. Stop on the island for some bottled water for the coffee maker. (Island water is a bit "different", trust me) The dish washer is a bit tired. Does the job, but it's loud as heck so we would run it while we were headed out to do stuff. The dryer that caused such a fuss in an earlier post has, in fact, burned almost all of the linens (very minor, but you'll see the spots when you make the bed) The good news is that I'm pretty confident that it's operator error. The dryer has the option to run for 15-100 minutes. The avg dryer run time is only 40-50 mins. If you put most materials on continual high heat for twice as long as recommended...no shock to me that it damaged stuff. Do your self (and Bucky) a favor and set the time to 45 minutes. The walk to the beach is short. You walk to the bike path in front of the house, down two houses to the road that runs you right into the beach access point. This house is a third row house, so don't expect to be able to hear the surf. It's the Gulf, they don't have the big surf that makes a loud ruckus. The place is kept quite clean. I had to put a toddler rail on a twin bed that slides between the box spring and mattress. Moving the bed to do so didn't result in icky surprise, quite the opposite. I was very pleased with the care that had to have gone into cleaning. Stove, fridge, bathrooms...spotless. Overall this is a really good option for a family. I loved it here, the week went too fast, and I can't wait to go back. Hope this review was helpful! Happy travels!

Disappointing...

I cannot write a favorable review on this property. There were just too many issues with the house that really dampened the enjoyment of our stay. We loved St George's Island, the close proximity to the beach, and the location and layout of the house. That's it. Upon arriving on Saturday afternoon, the housekeepers were still cleaning. They were just finishing up which was fine. However strewn about the driveway were large pieces of raw fish steaks that someone must have tossed out. The stench was unbearable. We took a drive around the island while the housekeepers finished and expected them to remove the fish debris from the parking area. When we arrived back the dead fish remained. The next day the smell became unbearable so we had to take sticks to toss the pieces into the wooded area and then hose the parking area to try to lessen the stench. I would expect a home to be prepared for guests inside and out. The first day in the home we found dirty used dishes in the cupboards. I ran the dishwasher the first night to ensure some clean dishes and utensils. The door on the dishwasher is broken so it falls to the floor and you cannot slide out the bottom rack properly. The dw makes tremendous racket and leaked water all over the kitchen floor. The air vents throughout the home were caked with dust/lint/soot whatever and black marks of dust along the walls and ceilings. The carpets were filthy and crunched when you walked on them. The exhaust fans in each bathroom had layers of lint/dust hanging from them. The shower curtains were moldy. The one sliding glass door to the deck was broken and did not lock. On the 4th night there the one toilet would not flush or fill up with water and continued the duration of our stay. The outside shower we did not use because there was a broken table and other debris left in it. Thank goodness there was a hose left outside. I was in contact with the owner about my concerns right away and the handyman came out one day and fixed the slider lock. He could not repair the dishwasher. The toilet stopped functioning after he had been there and we were too frustrated at that point to continue to have interruptions. The owner did offer to have a carpet cleaning service come to steam but again, who wants their holiday interrupted? It was very disappointing.

Not what I expected

St. George Island has not come back from the hurricane. Very grown up and sad looking compared to 5 years ago. The home was very outdated, floors were dirty and mold on bathroom faucets. Towels dingy and ripped, same with sheets. Mouse poop in Dishes in the cabinets from not beating cleaned in so long. Balcony spindles broke and a hazard. Moved loveseat to get dogs ball and very large dried stain underneath. While there manager texted to say they were coming over to get linens out of downstairs closet, next day noticed rocks and shells were moved and taken from patio area. Left two days early because of the experience.

Hard to Describe How Perfect and Comfortable this Property is!

This property is nestled in native live oak trees and you drive into the protected driveway and then walk up the steps to an immaculately CLEAN house that is so comfortable. I felt like we were staying in our own private cozy treehouse. First, it is super clean, the floors are new and wood in a light color. The house was light filled, open, airy. The paint is either new or spotless. Everything is in working order and it is not cluttered. The furniture is clean and very, very comfortable. The main room has the kitchen and living room and leads to a very large patio deck with a table, chairs and loungers. Part of the deck is covered, which is nice, because when it rained, we sat on the patio at the table, staying dry but watching the rain and the ocean beyond. Off each side of the large great room are the two bedrooms with bathrooms. The bathrooms were very clean and had ADA height toilets. The entire house felt fresh and well taken care of. The outdoor shower was really nice to use after being at the beach. Our large extended family stayed on another property, and it was always nice when we drove "home" to this property at night, ascended the stairs into our cozy cabin/home. We will stay here next year for vacation, for sure. It was perfect for my husband and I. We did not have other guests with us for the other bedroom, but that was fine as we put a few items in there and just enjoyed having the place to ourselves. Also, the owner was great - he called us as we were driving down and I asked him about the coffee pot - it was a good one! The home was decorated appropriately and there was no clutter to take up space. We felt at home and our family who stayed at another property loved coming up to visit.

We have had our home on the island since 1972 when I was a coach and administrator at Florida State University. Our children were raised on the island (we spend most weekends here) and they still call it home. We completely remodeled and enlarged the property in the early 2002. It is virtually a new home. In the last two years I have replaced the air conditioned and heat pump, the dish washer, the clothes dryer and the refrigerator, painted the interior and the outside decks, installed new carpeting throughout the carpeted areas and added new larger flat TV's to the great room and the master bedroom. The home is again like a new home. We currently live in Statesboro, GA where I have retired as Associate Professor of Sport Law and Athletics Director at Georgia Southern University. I have also retired from my own athletics consulting business am a licensed real estate broker. My wife has retired from being a manager at an electrical coop. We have four children, all married, all college graduates, and all able to pay their own house payments.....We are in love with the island and hope to spend much more time here in our retired years. I am an avid fisherman and can tell you where to fish and when to fish and my wife knows every restaurant and every shop in the area. Please feel free to ask out advice about anything pertaining to your vacation.

Why they chose this property

This property is a stand alone home on pilings located on a half acre lot. We have a view of the gulf and we are a short walk (150 yards approx) from the waters edge. It is super clean and well maintained. Very comfortable for four but can be used for six with my permission and after discussing with you your needs. We are located less than a mile from the middle of the island and the stores and restaurants. We are located on the walking path that circles the central part of the island.

What makes this property unique

As a stand alone property, it is peaceful, quiet, and has all the amenities to make you vacation a success. Including WiFi.
The island and the surrounding area is very special, quaint, bountiful, with the most beautiful beaches with the most splender than nature can provide.
