The 'Great Escape' Ultimate Ski-in-ski-out Winter Holiday and Summer Retreat

If you are looking for a winter or summer mountain vacation for multiple families, a work retreat, wedding, ski teams, or bringing many friends together, you've found the perfect chalet. The 'Great Escape' is situated at the very top of the Silver Queen chairlift in the area referred to locally as 'The Knoll'. We purchased this house 18 years ago due to its perfect location for all levels and ages of skiers, proximity to skating, tubing, and easy access to cross country ski trails. It is the perfect winter holiday location. There is no driving or even walking involved to ski in or out from this chalet (see photos). It is also a great place to base yourself for a summer vacation to hike, visit lakes in the valley, or mountain bike on the extensive trail network.

The 4300 sq ft recently renovated chalet is 3 levels. The upper level is comprised of a kitchen, dining area, hot tub, sauna, steam shower, bathroom, ski locker, boot room, and two living rooms. The large harvest dining table can sit 18. The mid-floor has 4 bedrooms each with private bathroom, bath and shower. Two rooms with queen beds, one room with two sets of bunk beds, and one room with a queen bed with a bunk above it and a bunk bed. The bottom floor has one room with two double beds and an open basement with two bunk beds. We also have two single mattresses that can be placed on the floor anywhere in the house for a total maximum sleeping capacity of 23.

One of the best Ski-In/Out on Mountian
We've stayed in many houses in Silverstar over the years. This one is for sure one of the best Ski-In/Out spots on the mountain. It's literally a few steps to and from the ski locker and nothing uphill! We stayed with a group with ages from 70 to 11 and everyone loved the house. The Owner was super helpful in letting us check in early as we were coming from other accommodation on the mountain. I can't really fault this place, maybe you could say the ski gear room (for gear, not skis/boards) is a bit small, especially if you had 23 people in the place, but there is also many spots to hang your jackets in your bedrooms etc so not really a problem. The boot/Glove dryer was a huge plus for this place as well.

wonderful family reunion
Totally set up for a large group, most adults had their own bedroom/bathroom and great setup for the kids in bunk beds. Super layout in kitchen, everything was there, so kid and family friendly. Even had use of the hottub and pingpong table and BBQ. Thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

Great place in a wonderful location
This place is so comfortable, it just feels like home. It’s well-stocked, the location is perfect, and it’s spacious. Excellent communication with the host. We’ve stayed here a couple of summers now and could definitely see us coming back again next year. I would highly recommend it for families, either winter or summer.

Truly on top of the mountain!
Location is great, house is large and spacious with lots of rooms, beds, and bathrooms in each room! Great basement for kids to hang out and play. Screened in porch was amazing with hot tub, and all needed house items provided. Enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

We had a range in ages from 18 months to 70 years old. The house was well laid out so family groups had their own space. Kitchen, etc was on its own level, which was great. Only potential drawback is the amount of stairs if you’ve got mobility issues. Gorgeous house that I would definitely recommend.

Great skiing holiday
The house was perfect for our needs. Lots of room for 14 of us (from 78 down to 3 years) and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need and more. Communication with the owner and the property manager was easy and friendly. The house is right at the top of one of the lifts so it really was ski in and out, especially good for little people. There were games, cards, a pingpong table and the hot tub which was very well used. We had a great time and I strongly recommend the house.

This is a very comfortable chalet in a perfect location- the top of the Silver Queen chair (about 10 steps away)- true ski in/ski out. A ski/pole room and boot room (with fantastic boot/glove warmer) are directly available beside the door leading to the ski chair. The kitchen was very well equipped and spacious; there is a very good TV room; and a quality ping pong table and darts. Very clean and quiet. Good parking for 4 vehicles outside (plus garage). We would not hesitate to rent this chalet again.

Exactly as described this space was fantastic for our family Each bedroom having its own bathroom ! A huge fridge, wine/beer fridge and extra fridge in garage meant we had ample room for all our groceries etc The kitchen was equipped with almost everything ever needed - in abundance The window seats were a fan favourite and people were constantly “stealing” someone’s spot Hot tub and table tennis were also a hit Thank you so much for making our daughter’s wedding run a bit smoother with all of us well rested and settled The list goes on… fantastic lodge Huge space ! great location for the nature lover

Great place for families
The place is great! Ski/bike in and out. Silverstar is a fun mountain village, and this place is clean, comfortable, well stocked, and in very good condition. The personal touches made us really feel at home. Our host was in touch in advance with all the details and was flexible and thoughtful. Would definitely rent this house again and recommend it whole-heartedly.

Summer Vacation
First of all Hands down to Scott the owner of the house. He is excellent in communicating and tries to accomodate your request as much as possible. The listing is 100 percent accurate. Each room on the top floor has its own washroom which is very handy for large groups. The house itself is beside the ski lift which is excellent in winter time. We stayed there in July and the temperature was about 10 degrees cooler compared to the town of Vernon. NO MOSQUITOES I think its too high for them to fly up in the mountains 😂. The silver mountain resort is very neat. The only downside, it is 30 minutes from the resort to the town of Vernon. And the road is very windy and narrow. We avoided to drive after dark for better visibilty. If you needed affordable place to stay, spacious, clean and has all the amenities you may need in a vacation reantal Scott is the place for you!! Thank you Scott for everything!!

The Great Escape is a fabulous place to stay at Silverstar!
We were 14 women who stayed at The Great Escape for a week of winter activities and time together. It was PERFECT! The house is situated at the top of the Silver Queen chair lift which made for super easy access to downhill skiing,to the x country ski trails and snowshoe trails.It is an easy downhill walk to town and the shuttle runs frequently for those who preferred to take a small bus back up to the house. Being on top of the hill also allows for panoramic views out the front and back of the property. And it is remarkably quiet. We ate at home and were so pleased with the kitchen and dining room areas- complete with 2 fridges and 2 coffeemakers and a huge assortment of kitchen utensils, pots, pans etc. The living room has a wonderful fireplace and cozy furniture with good light to read.There is a separate room/den with a large TV so those who wanted to watch something were able to without disturbing the conversation in the larger room. The beds are comfortable and the sheets, towels, blankets were plentiful and of good quality. There is a very clean and functional hot tub that is serviced every 48 hours. There is also a sauna and a steam shower. The Great Escape is perfect for a large group or two or three families with lots of bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry facilities. It is bright and airy and makes for a great setting to enjoy all that Silverstar has to offer!

We stayed at Great Escape with four families in early February and this house was exactly what we were hoping for. Our group was 8 adults and 8 kids and the house seemed exactly the right size. We didn't take advantage of the bunk beds in the basement, but you could certainly sleep additional 6 if needed. The location couldn't be more perfect right at the top of the Silver Queen. The ski room equipped with glove dryer was an excellent staging area to get everyone ready and out the door. The kitchen was well equipped and laid out, and the large dining table worked perfectly for getting everyone fed and just hanging about. Unfortunately our visit intersected with the Polar Vortex and minus 20 degree temps for most of the week, but we made the best of it with so many other activities available at the resort. We also made extensive use of the Crokinole board in the living room which became such a huge hit we might end up getting one ourselves! Thanks for the chance to stay up at your property in Silverstar. We're already discussing a return trip.

This chalet is owned by a family that believes skiing is an activity that brings family and friends together. We have been skiing at Silver Star on and off for 35 years and consistently for the last 20. Family gatherings usually involve a minimum of 16 people and four families.

Why they chose this property

After renting at Silver Star for several years, we purchased the Great Escape as we thought it was best located and designed chalet on the mountain for multiple families or large groups. Every guest that visits is astounded by the perfection of this place to enable a true winter vacation. Once you are here, you don't need your car again until you leave. The chalet was extensively renovated and upgraded in 2017.

What makes this property unique

The best feature is that there is something for everyone within seconds from the door. If you are a beginner skier, you are 5 seconds from the top of the Silver Queen chair, if you are a young family, you can easily switch off parenting obligations, you can cross country ski from the door, downhill ski, snowshoe or skate, or go tubing all within minutes from the chalet.
