About this property

Lakeside Cottage Facing White Mountains- overhangs lake - Panoramic sunset views

Welcome to this uniquely situated cottage at Ettowah Cove on Lower Kimball Pond in Fryeburg. The deck and the reading room of this cottage actually overhangs the fantastically clear lake water. This provides the sensation of being on a boat. You can fish right off the deck!

The lake is about 1 and 1/4 mile long, and 3/4 mile wide and straddles the border of Maine and New Hampshire. At 486 acres, the maximum depth is 65 feet and is home to: brown trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, white sucker, Hornpout (bullhead), and pumpkin-seed sunfish.

There is a tennis / pickleball / basketball court that is shared by about 11 families, In the cottage you will find: tennis and pickleball racquets and balls, basketball, fishing rods, paddles, books, puzzles, board games and DVD's.

This cottage was part of a summer camp at Ettowah Cove started in the 1930s. There is an interesting history of Camp Ettowah in the cottage guest book.

It is only 14 miles to the resort area of North Conway, New Hampshire (various shops, outlet stores and restaurants), 20 miles to Mount Washington, and 30 miles to the White Mountain National Forest (770,000 acres!). The area is rich in scenic drives and hiking trails.

Nearby are fantastic farm stands, produce markets and orchards, ranging from one stop shopping to honor system, roadside self-serve. The current information for those is in the cottage guest book.

A nature lovers treat, common animals and plants include: loon, cormorant, duck, goose, fish, beaver, turtle, chipmunk, bald eagle, hawk, owl, hummingbird, hemlock, spruce, pine, balsam fir, birch, beech, red maple, wild mushroom.

And the sky is so clear that the nighttime stargazing is spectacular unless the moon is full, and that's a different kind of beauty and a wonderful time to kayak and canoe on the lake,

The cottage is toward the end (about 1 mile from the paved road)of a well maintained, packed dirt road. There is no through traffic, so the area is quiet and tranquil. The cottage is on an area of the lake that is designated "no wake". You are steps away from your own small, private sandy beach.

In addition, there is a common sandy, sunny beach nearby and a common tennis/ pickle ball / basketball court.

There are two matching kayaks and one canoe available. Bring along your own stand up paddle board or small sailboat for more kinds of water fun. Various swim tubes and small floats are available as well as life jackets in a wide range of sizes, Or maybe a nap first in the hammock under the tall pines, or laying a campfire in the fire-pit for s'mores and storytelling later?

Sleeping accommodations: One upstairs queen size master bedroom with attached ½ bath, another upstairs queen size bedroom, and a first floor “bunk” room with three twin beds and one double bed.

Please bring your own towels and linens .

The cottage now has Starlink WIFI.

This was previously listed under the prior owner, Aleta. She had many years of happy renters, with 54 reviews and an average review of 8.8 out of 10. My husband, David and I rented from Aleta for many years, and when she decided to sell the cottage, we were determined to own it so that we could continue to enjoy it's beauty and to share it with others.

David and I now live on Maui, and this property in Maine provides for some of the things we miss from the mainland: Deciduous forest, fresh water lakes and rivers, North East wildlife...

If you have special interests, please let us know. We enjoy researching to find the types of local events and attractions that appeal to you.

In summary, a private, serene area with a cottage hanging over the water, striking mountain views and sunsets, deep in the Maine woods, perfect for a complete getaway and a regenerative nature experience.

Lovely lake house

We really enjoyed our stay at the lake house. While it could have been a bit cleaner, considering the price and the amazing location with its stunning view, it's an absolute steal. However, if you're not a fan of spiders or small insects, you might want to think twice before booking. Since the house is perched right over the lake, there are quite a few cobwebs and various insects around the deck. On the plus side, you'll also get to enjoy sightings of hummingbirds and other rare birds you don’t often see in daily life. They offer kayaks and a canoe, which we—and our dog—had a great time using. The water is clean and perfect for swimming. Overall, I highly recommend it!

Nice little spot

We have stayed here several times. The cottage leans more toward camp than summer home, but we love the location. The owner takes care of problems quickly and makes improvements every year.

Perfect location

It’s a great rustic cabin but is definitely for people expecting rustic. There is mouse poop in the cabinets and the neighbors wandering dogs poop in the yard, as well as a very mildew smell. But we are here for the porch and the pond so the interior doesn’t matter much for us. If you have little babies, you can’t baby gate off the stairs inside and the drop down room or the porch so something to consider. It’s a nature lovers paradise. The pond is relatively quiet and truly picturesque.

Very beautiful spot right on the water

The location is amazing and the deck is literally right over the water! The house fit all of us (7) just fine but could have been cleaned a bit better. We had to immediately buy toilet paper as there were only partial rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom with no backup rolls, there were quite a few cobwebs in a lot of the corners and the freezer smelled like fish. Overall, a bit rustic but we would stay here again due to the location on the water, the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere but actually being very close to Fryeburg and North Conway!

Perfect cabin getaway

I adore this place, it’s plenty spacious even with four kids. A little harder to baby proof for anyone concerned, and could be a little more rustic for prissy people. But if you’re looking for a cabin deep in the woods on the most beautiful pond, this is it. So quiet here and on the water. Just don’t be scared of bugs.

Beautiful spot!

We had great stay. The pond and Ettowah cove are beautiful and hospitable. Amazing natural surroundings and great proximity to other scenic and fun areas. The cabin was great - just needs a sliding screen door! Loved the kayaks, canoe, pristine views and amazing and swimmable sandy shores and water.

Gorgeous view but uncomfortable due to excessive spiders, mosquitoes and lack upkeep /cleanliness

We began our week by needing to thoroughly clean the cabin ., the view of mountains and quiet of the lake was beautiful., but we needed to leave daily and find water holes and areas to swim as every time we walked outside we were swarmed with bugs and they covered the water also. Kayaking was amazing once we were able to leave the cottage area and get away from the mosquitoes.

The location was great in terms of not having much traffic nearby or on the water. We spent the week watching the the mountains, water, stars, and hummingbirds.

Our fourth visit

No place is perfect, but we love several aspects of this property. We will probably try to rent again and don't want to say too much and create more competition for ourselves. It's getting hard enough to find lakefront places around Fryeburg. The owner is a fine hose, and very responsive if any issues come up.

Great place to unplug

Beautiful lake! Great spot for kids (if they like to fish, kayak, swim!). Not having wifi was great! We have 4 boys (12, 9, 7, 4) and it was wonderful to have them unplugged for a week! We made day trips to a mineral mine, Diana's Bath, Santa's Village, Flume Gorge and North Conway. Easy location to be able to fully enjoy the White Mountains! We also brought our dog with us. We snorkled all the way around Loon Island looking for fish one afternoon! Such a clean lake! I do wish the floating swim-dock was closer to shore. It was tricky to get my 3 younger ones there! Also, I did step on a nail right outside the house on our last day. Very small puncture, but I did need to go to urgent care to get a tetanus booster.

Great Lake House

This house was great, better than the photos let on!! Water was super clean and shallow for easy swimming. We loved having the canoe and kayak for use and brought a paddleboard. The lack of internet was only a problem when trying to decide if we wanted to eat out and where to go. I have AT&T service and was to walk down the road (not nearly to the end) and be able to look things up, but my friend (xfinity) barely had service even when out on the main road. Overall, I would highly recommend this house. If it had a washer and dryer, we would be more likely to re-book for next year but that's just because coming home to all that laundry was definitely a bummer.

Awesome vacation

The place is beautiful. Stocked with everything you need at camp in case you forget it. The little sun room was perfect on that one rainy day for book reading. All in all a wonderful experience for me and my family. Thank you.

It was overall good.

Beautiful view, great neighbors, quiet area. House was very clean. The plumbing was very weak, the downstairs toilet would not flush after using the shower all day. The heating system took a few days to kick in when the house got cold on poor weather days. But overall had a good experience here!

True Family Getaway

I rented this quaint camp with my children, my brother and niece. We loved the sunken sunroom and views of the mountains. At first I was uncertain about not having wi-fi, but it actually turned out to be one of my favorite things about the camp. It kept us all from being on our phones the entire time. When I really needed to get in touch with someone, I just drove to the end of the road (about a mile) There were plenty of games and puzzles to help us enjoy the rainy days. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. It was a convenient location to both Bridgton and North Conway. We even found a bowling alley in Fryeburg. We drove through the Kancamangus Scenic Byway, which was just gorgeous. The camp is in the heart of the Maine woods, so bring your bug spray if you are not on the water. Amazingly the deck was quite bug free! We definitely enjoyed our stay.
