Extraordinary Experience
A group of us rented Westcove House, the Stables and the Garden Cottage to celebrate my 60th birthday. The property is extraordinary—and we were blessed with incredible weather (in January!). Katherine, the house manager was so helpful and took great care of us. Take advantage of her fabulous cooking—we had a celebratory birthday dinner that was magical and they did it all-she even arranged for local musicians for us. A beautiful place in a great location—I highly recommend!

Perfect
We booked this property as the accommodations for our small destination wedding of about 18 people. First, the pictures on the profile don't do this property justice. The surroundings are absolutely idyllic. Location: For our purposes, it was perfect, keeping in mind that we planned in advance for car rentals to ensure we had enough seats at all times. The bulk of the wedding events were about 10 minutes down the road in Caherdaniel (highly recommend the Blind Piper), which is not a bad drive at all. Sneem was close enough for an excursion, and shopping for supplies was easy enough at either Kenmare, or with enough planning, Killarney. Accomodations: Wonderful. Very clean, comfortable, spacious, charming. The room layouts worked well for the make-up of our party. Kitchens are very well supplied, leaving you to get just the particulars for your stay. Katherine and her staff were very conscientious around upkeep, and also quite sweet and friendly. The wifi is strong in the bulk of the property. IT worked well for our purposes. Catering/Event hosting: Katherine and her team prepared DELICIOUS food for a few meals for us, and their service was so welcoming. Our reception dinner was in the larger room in the stables, and it was perfect for our group. Highly recommend looking into this option. Overall, highly HIGHLY recommend, all of our guests raved about their experience here. We look forward to returning in the future.

Westcove Wonders
Westcove is the family home of Susannah Adlington and is very much treated like that. It is a lovely manor house of grand proportions and secret passages used in days gone by as servant access halls. The cottage and stables are charming and perfect for special guests and kids. There are plenty of activities on the grounds to keep kids entertained and adults marveling at the views and tranquil rural setting of the rugged Irish coastline. The staff takes great care of the property and the guests. We used them for several nights of cooking and enjoyed every meal. All of the suggestions made by Susannah for local storytellers, musicians and dance teachers were marvelous and made our evenings enchanting. The longer we stayed, the more we relied on Sussanah's local attraction suggestions and found that there is enough within minutes drive from Westcove to keep our diverse group entertained for two weeks. The boat captains and guides were all first rate. Overall, my family and I were very impressed by Westcove in every regard. We have rented many homes and villas around the world and Westcove was second to none.

A perfect vacation
Wow! This place was a bit of heaven on earth - my family (all 19 of us) stayed in the Westcove house and Stables to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. Katherine and her staff are wonderfully accommodating and the food and service was excellent! We enjoyed being on the water, breathtaking scenery, and easy access to many Kerry activities and outings: Skelligs, horseback riding, walking the Kerry Way, great pubs, Killarney National Park, Kenmare market, church in Caherdaniel. Refreshing and inspiring! Thanks for sharing your beautiful properties and grounds with us - we feel lucky to have stayed there! Luke Foster

What a lovely setting!
Westcove house is pretty amazing, from the lovely setting (having good weather helped) to the history and character of the house, all wonderful. We were a group of 23 (5 families) with children ranging from 5 to 17. We had a lovely time in the house with fun and games in the evening and walks/runs around the local area plus plenty to keep everyone occupied a little further afield (Eclipse Ireland - Adventure center).

An exquisite example of genteel Irish country life
Our family reserved and fully utilized the 3 buildings of this elegant Property for a week in June, 2015 when we gathered for a celebration and remembrance of the life of our son who loved this part of Kerry more than any place on earth. What a joyous and wonderful week! The staff could not have been more accommodating, addressing our every need; the meals that were prepared for us (with seating of up to 50 people on occasion) were delicious, and the facilities were perfectly suited to the multinational and broad age range of guests who joined us. I would highly recommend this vacation/respite spot to anyone!

Amazing Family Visit!
We recently returned from 12 days at the Westcove properties! 33 of us joined together to celebrate the amazing life of the family patriarch who would have turned 90 in April! The trip was originally planned for this milestone event but when a sudden illness took him from us earlier this year, the family felt we should still go forward with our plans. And we are so glad we did! Westcove was nothing short of perfect! The accommodations were comfortable, clean and provided the perfect alternative to a typical hotel vacation. Katherine and the staff were friendly and warm and exceptionally helpful, both throughout the planning process and our stay. And staying in one location allowed us to have the comfort of our own bedrooms and plenty of space to join together for meals and socializing. And the 17 grandkids all got to bunk together, an added bonus. I cannot say enough to truly explain how perfect our visit was! Well worth a visit and very reasonable. You won't be disappointed! Ireland and Westcove were a wonderful vacation we will always remember!

The Perfect Alternative Wedding Venue
We were looking for something different from the usual wedding venue and when we first found Westcove we knew we were on to something. When we finally had a chance to visit the property and meet with Suzannah and Katherine and discuss with them the ideas we had for our wedding, we knew we had found what we wanted. Westcove House is such an amazing property and is absolutely ideal for a couple that wants to create their own wedding - from scratch. With plenty of help from friends, family and Katherine and her team we pulled of an amazingly unique and special wedding with trad in the main house and DJ and dancing in the Stables and our closest friends and family staying with us in each of the properties for the wedding weekend. Katherine and team created a delicious menu for us and the food and service was impeccable, despite the fact that we had a few more guests for the meal than they are used to! We just want to say thank you once again to everyone at Westcove House for helping us create such a unique and intimate wedding. It's a weekend we will cherish forever! Claire & Paul C

Idyllic Retreat by the Atlantic Ocean
Westcove House is situated in a fantastic location, surrounded by lush green fields, mountain peaks and vast blue sky. The private harbour lends a wonderful quaintness to the property. The eccentric house is stylishly decorated, the grounds are beautifully kept and the views of the Atlantic estuary and Kerry mountains and Bearra peninsula to the South are spectacular. Katherine's cooking is hearty and homely in the very best sense. All of our catering requests were enthusiastically met. The property is located close to beautiful sandswept beaches, Staigue Fort and other points of local interest. A wonderful choice for a family reunion, intimate wedding or anniversary setting, or in our case, a yoga retreat.

Wonderful Wedding Week at Westcove
My Husband and I had our wedding celebration at Westcove House in August 2014 and it was perfect. We were able to house our guests on site for the week- the houses were all beautiful and very comfortable. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. We had everything we could need and more at the house. Susanne was excellent to work with when booking and planning our trip- provided many excellent tips and was easy to access for questions. Once we arrive Katherine made us comfortable and was there to help with anything we needed. The house was the perfect location to take day trips and hikes from. We cannot wait to visit again. The house worked perfectly for a wedding celebration. We did a small ceremony on the front lawn, had dinner in the dining room, local musicians playing, and celebration in the stables. It could not have been more perfect of a location to get married. The food by Katherine and others was superb. We had dancing lessons with Bernie the night prior which allowed us to attempt some Irish dancing during the reception which was a blast. The venue was perfect for a wedding and made all guests feel comfortable and at home. I highly recommend Westcove House for anyone considering for vacation or wedding accommodations.

The Stables - Perfect !
Our party of ten had a lovely and comfortable stay at the Stables in May 2013 (6 adults + 4 children). Property was clean and well maintained inside and out … but with charm ! Great facilities for the kids (and men) with the play room, boat, bbq, swings and sauna (although we didn’t get to use it). The open fireplace added to the ambiance and was much appreciated during the coolish spring evenings. Great help and assistance from Susannah prior to arriving and the same caring treatment from Katherine upon arrival. First time in Ireland and we loved it ; beaches, monuments, walks, Guinness and the warm welcome from all the locals. The Stables is perfectly located right on the water’s edge, nice big garden and with lovely hilly walks at hand. Derrynane beach very close by – breathtaking. Also fully recommend the local butcher in Sneem !

Garden Cottage, Westcove
The cottage was lovely – even prettier than it looks in the pictures. Simply and tastefully furnished it had everything we could possibly need and Katherine and Michael were always on hand to make sure that all was well. A typical day began with breakfast on the patio (freshly-baked from the bakery behind the Stables), then we set off to explore. The white sands of Caherdaniel and the historic Derrynane House were just minutes away in one direction, the colourful village of Sneem and the pretty little town of Kenmare a short drive away in the other. We toured part of the Kerry Ring and explored the unspoilt, rugged beauty of the Beara peninsula, We drove round Valentia island (in the pouring rain, alas!) and visited the impressive Skellig Experience, We went for walks, we played golf, we paddled in the sea. Sometimes we just sat by the quayside of the little harbour below Westcove and did nothing at all. This would be a great place for couples wanting to get away from it all. It would also appeal to families as there is so much to do, whatever your age or your interests. Surfing, riding, fishing ... enjoying Irish food and Irish hospitality … the list goes on.

Family Holiday
We had a wonderful family holiday staying at The Stables. The property was clean, well maintained and comfortable with some rustic charm! It has a fantastic games room for the children and easy access to some incredible beaches (by car or on foot). We also explored the hills behind the house which proved to be a challenging but wortwhile walk. Everyone in the area was so friendly and made every effort to ensure our holiday was a success. A small bakery attached to The Stables provided delicious bread each morning. There were lots of activities to do nearby (golf, visit the skelligs, Derrynanae) but the highlight was having picnics on the beach and pints of guiness in Freddy's bar! We will be returning at some stage!

The stables-extended family friendly!
We were most fortunate; not only with the wonderful briefing from Susannah prior to our arrival, but also,to find such a welcoming home from home. Everything was just as promised, not least the ever available Catherine and Michael for advice and guidance; the Family Supper organised by Catherine in the Main House is a must. The games room was a real hit with the grandsons, and to find a home bakery literally outside the kitchen window, was almost too good to be true. Add in glorious weather, "The Skelligs" and Golf at Waterville, with Freddie's watering hole in Caherdaniel, what more can an Irishman (an O'Connell to boot!),returning to his roots after many years, ask for. We look forward to our next visit, when we will, all 30+ of us, occupy the whole complex.

Unforgettable honeymoon...
My wife and I had our honeymoon in the Stables, and brought 10 friends along. The accomodation was superb. The house is perfectly laid out - there is enough big space to have everybody together in one room, but there are also enough private spots if you want more quiet time. This I thought was ideal for a big group of old friends. The kitchen is well equipped, and the ready supply for turf for the fire was very welcome. The surrounding areas has some of the best hiking in Ireland, and the nearby beaches and pubs are the ideal place to relax. I can not recommend Westcove highly enough.

Perfect Kerry Retreat
We have stayed at Westcove House for the past two years (we usually take the end of July/beginning of August week) and have booked for a third year this summer, so you can probably tell this will be a favourable review. We find the accommodation works well if a large group goes together - the house comfortably sleeps 10 of us and with extended family/friends in the stables and the small house, we were able to make the best use of all the space and of course, the games room on wet days. The house itself is very comfortable (not deeply luxurious, but with everything you could need), clean and with beautiful views over the water. We found Katherine's catering to be the easiest way to go, with hot meals prepared, served and cleared away. As long as she has some notice, this also allows for barbecues or eating out (or self-catering if you want). There is also a very dangerous bakery round the corner - making fresh bread, scones, croissants and cakes - it's walkable! There is the most beautiful beach at Derrynane, about a couple of miles away, a fabulous horseshoe of sand and great surf for bodyboarding (bring wetsuits if possible, we had to drag the children out of the water at the end of the day!). We also go horseriding on the beach through the local stables which is hugely exhilerating. They cater for all levels of horsemanship and the younger children also enjoyed some bouncy trots on the sand. There's a good pub on the way to the beach (The Blind Piper) where we enjoyed a great evening of Irish music - it got louder and faster as the evening went on! We usually do a couple of walks as well - part of the Kerry Way (I think!) which gives beautiful views following the coast, and in a loop from Sneem through peat bogs, farms, forest and a small quarry. The only downside is the variety in the weather - you can't expect guaranteed sunshine. As long as you prepare for some damp days, it shouldn't stop you having fun. We look forward to going every year and was half-reluctant to write a review - torn between wanting more people to have the Westcove Experience and hoping nobody books Our Week!

Westcove is the Best
My family and traveling friends stay at top of the line villas in Italy and Ireland almost every year...and I can honestly say that our experiences at Westcove far outshine the others. Whether we have a large group staying at the House, the Stables and the Garden Cottage or a small intimate group just at the House we see happy faces every morning for breakfast, planning their days activities in the fascinating surrounding areas of Kerry...and we see those same faces around the peat fire in the Bar before dinner, telling wonderful Irish stories. Then the cook/housekeeper pops in to bring an appetizer and announce that dinner is ready. Another great day at Westcove.

Host profile image
My name is Susannah Adlington and I am a portrait artist living in Hampshire, England with my husband Michael. My father’s family have had Irish connections for several hundred years, and my parents bought Westcove House in the early 60s … since then four generations of our family have been enjoying holidays here – we just love the place and feel sure that you would too. Indeed many of our guests return to Westcove time and time again – something which we view as the highest form of praise!

Why they chose this property

Westcove is very dear to our family - we have spent many years upgrading and improving Westcove House, and renovating the Stables, Garden Cottage and Pier Cottage whilst retaining their character and charm. The income we receive from renting out our properties at Westcove when we ourselves are not here, helps with the ever-increasing costs involved with the upkeep of period properties, whilst hopefully enabling us to share this much loved, unique and magical place with others for many more generations to come.
We are aware that you, our visitors, will all have different requirements and interests, so we try to be as flexible as possible to ensure your stay at Westcove surpasses all your expectations.

What makes this property unique

Westcove and the surrounding area is teeming with history, character and charm...there is so much to see and do. If you choose to stay home the gardens and terraces are magical places for dining or relaxing whilst admiring the views over the harbour and hills beyond. Even sitting by a window, the scenery and light is always changing as cloud shadows move with the wind across the water and bog-lands. The stresses and cares of the world just melt away ....
