About this property
House with hot tub on 2.5 acres
The Owl House is a sanctuary of calm on 2.5 gorgeous acres. A huge, covered porch is your lookout to the back forest where you can explore our lighted loop trail and listen for the owls before dipping into the outdoor spa or roasting smores over the fire on the patio. The detached studio offers a DVD library and movie projector, foosball, ping pong, mini-fridge, games, and puzzles. The main house features lofted wood ceilings, an open layout, books, large fully stocked kitchen, and 55 inch TV.
There are three bedrooms (two on the main floor and one in the loft) with two queen and two twin beds to comfortably sleep six. A dedicated workspace for your laptop can be found in the main floor twin bedroom and high speed fiber-to-the-home WiFi will keep you well connected, Each floor has a full bathroom.
The main floor's open layout features a large fully stocked kitchen that flows into a bright living and dining space under wood paneled lofted ceilings. The wall of windows takes your view outside across the covered porch and into the spacious yard, apple orchard, and back forest. The kitchen is well equipped with several types of coffee makers, a selection of local coffees and teas to choose from, all the basics for family meals, plus some extras like a Ninja blender and old-style ice cream maker.
The heated detached studio in the back yard has a clubhouse feel with theater and giant bean bag seating, a pile of throw blankets, and a movie projector for big screen viewing with extensive DVD library. The other half of the studio offers foosball, ping pong, a magnetic dart board, a game and puzzle table, and a STOCKED mini-fridge.
The spacious 2.5 acre property is part Pacific Northwest forest, and part spacious yard and apple orchard. There are no visible neighbors on three sides for country seclusion, peace, and quiet. Walk the lighted loop trail day or night through the forested back half of the property.
From the front of the property, the Owl House is set back from the gravel access road down a long poplar-lined drive and past a seasonal pond with an old bridge (pretty to look at but not sturdy to walk on).
On the secluded south side of the property, tucked in between the house and the woods, you will find an outdoor sanctuary with the hot tub and firepit flagstone patio with footpaths connecting back to the seasonal pond.
From the Owl House you are just two miles to the nearest Salish Sea access at the Freeland Beach Park and community boat launch. Not much farther and you can explore numerous Whidbey Island hideaways like the sandy Double Bluff Beach and South Whidbey State Park with old growth trees. Venture just a little to the east and spend time in Langley, which I call a "beachy Mayberry" with its friendly and easy-going vibe, waterside views and several good restaurants, art galleries and shops.
Of course, all this is just a start. Inside the owl House you will find several local guide books and a stack of pamphlets with enough sights and activities to keep you smiling and exploring this beautiful place which the locals like to say is the "shortest distance to far away."

About the host
Hosted by Doug Geiling

My name is Doug and I am from Colorado, but love to spend time in my second state of Washington where I previously lived full time for nearly a decade.
Why they chose this property
There is something unique and special about Pacific Northwest Island life, and Whidbey Island in particular with its special blend of Pacific Northwest culture and rural ruggedness, bracketed on two sides by the mountains of the Olympics and the Cascades with the saltwater of the Salish Sea in between.
What makes this property unique
The house is wonderful, but what makes the Owl House really special is the setting with its long poplar-lined driveway, seasonal pond, little apple orchard, and large yard bordered in the back by a forest of cedars and red alders. When the owls arrive at dusk (and they usually do) and call out from the forest, it turns this unique place into a magical one.
