About this property

Octavia Street Cottage

The cottage is sunny, classic New Orleans shotgun cottage with modern updates in a wonderful, walkable and friendly neighborhood ten blocks from Audubon Park and the Zoo and River.

Hardwood floors and high ceilings hold ceiling fans and a comfortable couch and chair lends to lounging. The open full kitchen with new appliances and a large oak dining table is a comfortable place to share a meal, play a game, or decorate your Mardi Gras throws. Lovely light and eleven foot ceilings and ceiling fans will make you feel at home.

The bedroom has simple Art Deco furniture and high thread count sheets and bedding. The bedroom leads to the bathroom with claw foot tub for soaking your dancing feet and dreaming as well as a shower.

The back door opens to the screened porch, my favorite room in the house, perfect for sipping your cocktail under the swirling ceiling fan. The brick patio could be your next crawfish boil site with a comfy table and chairs for those beautiful languid evenings. The small house in the back has a full-sized washer/dryer.

Sauter around uptown New Orleans with fabulous food within walking distance in all directions, including the best poboys in town. St. Charles Avenue, Audubon Park and the Mississippi River all within ten blocks of the cottage.

I came for two months to visit my children. The wee cottage was just right in every way - lovely neighborhood, totally responsive host, fabulous little courtyard and living space. If she will have me, I’d come back any time!

Wonderful Uptown home

Amy's place was truly wonderful--quiet and cozy and in a nice neighborhood. The location was ideal--just a few blocks from Tulane and Audubon Park, as well as the bus and the streetcar. Getting into the Quarter was a breeze! Amy was a communicative and gracious host. Highly recommended--would definitely stay here again!

nice spot in great neighborhood

This was a cute, comfortable spot in my favorite neighborhood, perfect for a one month stay. Walk to the best stretch of Magazine Street and explore the city from a clean, cozy home base.

A great uptown choice.

A charming well decorated cottage in a friendly and safe uptown neighbourhood. Well equipped and cool with two air conditioners. Shops and restaurants nearby and one does not really need a car, though walking is difficult in the summer months. All in all a nice choice and communication with the owner was easy and pleasant. No real complaints. You should note that to access the bathroom it is necessary for users of the sofa bed to go through the main bedroom. Recommended.

Location and property all perfect

This place completely hit all marks on what i was looking for. I was looking for a 30 day rental while visiting that was in a safe area close to my mom's place near Napoleon. Amy's house is excellent for one person or a couple. There's generous space for living and even having company over. The kitchen and living room combo was great. She had all of the amenities you'd need for cooking and you can still host or watch tv. The bedroom had a very comfortable queen bed with a dresser for storage in addition to an open closet storage area right in front of the bathroom. The storage closet also had an extra set of linens for guests or if you'd like to wash the ones on the bed. The bathroom is a great space with a precious clawfoot tub. There is a washer, dryer and dish washer kindly all available for your use. Amy's property is located 4 blocks from an excellent spot on magazine where you can go to shop, get coffee, get lunch and even get groceries. Winn Dixie is three blocks in the other direction if you're looking you shop local. I really lucked out with this rental. Thanks again, Amy.

Perfect way to experience New Orleans!

Can't say enough good things about this little shotgun house - located in a neat established neighborhood with great amenities (grocery, restaurants, and more!) and in easy proximity to the Convention Center, French Quarter, and more without having to stay right in the hullabaloo or pay ridiculous hotel prices, parking, and wifi fees. The house itself is ADORABLE, furnished comfortably, and had everything we needed - comfy bed and sofa bed with plenty of quality cotton linens, fully equipped kitchen with a large dining table for working in the evening (we stayed for a conference at the convention center), an adorable bathroom and closet setup with thought to needed space for toiletries and such, plenty of good towels, an adorable screened porch and private backyard for relaxing after a long day. Felt safe in this neighborhood, and periodically left the car and Ubered to other parts of the city where parking or safety were a concern. Would DEFINITELY want to stay here again when traveling to NOLA. Amy is fantastic - communicative, responsive, and made sure we had everything we needed, as well as suggestions of things to do/see, places to eat, etc! Highly recommend!!1

Great location!

Amy and her husband addressed the few small issues we had as best they could from far away. Great location, comfy bed, very clean, lots of linens, and fully stocked kitchen. Great place to stay in a neighborhood and pretend we still live in our favorite city!

Great little house. Very clean, well appointed, convenient location!

We had a very nice stay. Quiet neighborhood but only three blocks from Whole Foods and District Coffee on Magazine St. Even closer to Octavia Books and breakfast/brunch at Toast one block from house. Easy walk to Audubon Park.

A darling house in a great neighborhood

We really enjoyed this lovely one bedroom home. It was clean and well equipped. Had a sweet backyard. Short walk to great restaurants and shopping. I would have given it a five except the bed was very soft and the shower set up was cramped. Overall loved the stay. And would recommend this house and the host

Adorable home in a perfect location!

The house is just as charming as it looks in the pictures, if not more so. The location is ideal and walking distance to plenty of restaurants and beautiful residential streets for a little house and garden envy. I would happily stay here again!

Great location and very comfortable !

My husband and I stayed at the Octavia cottage for the weekend of Tulane graduation. The location was wonderful, because we were able to walk to several restaurants and shops as well as two different grocery stores. When we weren't busy with graduation activities, we were able to relax on the screen porch and patio in back which was lovely. The price is great and it is wonderful to know there are options like this in New Orleans. We will definitely stay again!

Loved staying in this sweet house!

My husband and I stayed here for over a week. The location is great (we did not have a car)... the neighborhood is very nice and safe... the people friendly. The house is very well-equippped, especially the kitchen. We shopped at nearby Whole Foods and cooked. The tall ceilings are wonderful, the space feels very big and roomy, a very nice home-away-from-home. The bed is extremely comfortable. We also loved the screened in back porch, and simply sitting and listening to birds... or sitting at night. I would love to go back to this house, it was extremely comfortable and clean.

Wonderful

My wife an I spent four nights in this lovely house and it was excellent. To begin, the owners were terrific with their response time and the booking process was very smooth. The house is perfect for a couple looking to have a great time in New Orleans while staying away from the hectic scene of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, though the house is within 2-3 blocks of two different bus lines and about 7-9 blocks from the St. Charles Streetcar, so getting around the city is fairly easy, I recommend purchasing a "Jazzy Pass" from NORTA to get access to the public transportation which we found to be reliable. The house is much more spacious than it appears from the outside and the back patio area was like a private little courtyard. The neighborhood is nice, safe, and clean. And there was ample on street parking. I would highly recommended this rental property and would definitely stay here again.

AWESOME stay!

This is our fifth stay at the Octavia Cottage and it continues to get better and better. Amy and Jeff really do a great job at keeping everything well appointed, and are very cordial and concerned about everything going well. The house is so comfortable and convenient, and the new windows are great! This is an absolutely charming piece of New Orleans, and yes, we'll be back!

Perfect! And with an 8 year old :)

My husband and I stayed for 7 nights with our 8 year old son. I grew up in New Orleans and we usually stay with friends but since we were going to be there such a long time we decided to get a rental. Our son used the pull-out sofa and we stayed in the bedroom. The house has everything although I must admit we didn't cook much since we had to hit all of our favorite restaurants! It was still nice to have a place for leftovers. It was great to have a washer dryer and the bikes, which we rode over to Audubon park (only a mile away - an easy ride). We did rent a car but also walked to the zoo, grocery (both Whole Foods and Winn-Dixie are blocks away) and restaurants. Frankie & Johnny's, Domilise's and Toast (excellent breakfast) all great with a kid but it's New Orleans, so even the "fancy" places are tolerant (and actually NICE) with kids in tow, just be polite and go early :). If you have a kid you will anyway. Also great for kids, and a short car ride away, Jacques Imo's and Camillia Grill, Of course. The cottage is in a great location and it will give you a taste of the real New Orleans - enjoy!

Octavia Street Cottage

I came with my daughter to visit Tulane. The set-up was perfect, a very comfortable bed and separate bedroom for me and pull-out sofa for her. We enjoyed having breakfast in the back patio and loved the location. Quiet residential street in walking distance to everything, including great restaurants and shops, Tulane and public transportation. New Orleans is a great city and we hope to return soon!

If you want to experience life as a New Orleanian, The Octavia Street Cottage is for you. This house is SO New Orleans! And so comfortable. Great stay for two

Everything was in tip top shape. Great location for a quite stay. Two grocery stores within 3 blocks. Wonderful patio. Close to a large, beautiful park - great for exercise. And New Orleans, what can I say but YOU DA BEST. When it comes to Restaurants, live music, and watering holes a person could not do better than the Big Easy.

Great Place

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was comfortable, clean and well-decorated. There was plenty of storage space and it had everything you'd need during your stay. Pam, the owner, was very responsive. The location was excellent, though I think it's best for someone with a car.

About the host

Host profile image
Amy is a New Orleanian and Jeff is from California. They are happy to share their sweet shotgun cottage and their favorite restaurants and music clubs with you. There's never enough time in New Orleans, no matter how much time you spend, you'll be coming back soon, hopefully to the Octavia Street Cottage in the heart of Uptown.

Why they chose this property

Amy's grandfather was born just across Magazine on Arabella, and she went to Lusher, and later Tulane for graduate school. She finds new things to savor every times she comes home and loves the way this neighborhood keeps getting better without losing it's sense of slow-paced charm.

What makes this property unique

I've always loved the shotgun cottage, simple with nice lines and no extraneous spaces, just enough room. Octavia street has all the things I love in a house including the ceiling fans and the screened porch for lounging and reading the Lagnaippe section of the paper to find out where to go for hot music or the Gambit for the best new restaurants in town. I love the old brick of the stoop and the fireplace and of course the claw foot tub, big enough for soaking those tired Jazz Fest feet.

We fell in love with the neighborhood when we stayed here years ago, on Annunciation and discovered the pleasures of biking in Audubon Park under the live oak trees and riding or walking the bike path on the levee along the river and within walking distance of fabulous restaurants and bars.
