Great downtown Tucson getaway

Great location for downtown Tucson. Within walking distance to everything, but still quiet. Right across the street from a parking garage, easy access and check in process. We would definitely stay there again.

Great spot downtown Tucson!

Really enjoyed my stay here! The room was very spacious and the onsite bar was fantastic. Anyone attending a conference at the Tucson Convention Center should absolutely book this place!

Great Spot!

We had a lovely stay at this newly renovated 'hotel style' VRBO. Check-in was easy and our hotel room had its own keypad for entry. Communication was quick and helpful with the host, and the service/staff at the Unicorn Zebra bar down the hallway were friendly and helpful, as well. Would stay here again.

A Happy Surprise in the Heart of Tucson

I’m so glad I booked The Unicorn Zebra! From the moment I arrived, I felt like I had discovered a hidden gem right in downtown Tucson. The location was perfect—close to everything but tucked into a quieter pocket that made it feel like a little escape.I especially loved the on-site bar—it was super cool and had a fun, creative vibe. I was a little worried I might hear noise from the bar at night, but it was completely quiet in my room. The soaking tub was a dream, and the property owner went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth and welcoming. The whole stay just felt easy and special. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Comfortable and super lovely vacation rental

I've been to Tucson many times, and usually a challenge to find a cozy clean comfortable room that appeals to me that has close proximity to U of A, 4th Ave, downtown and within minutes to the freeway, but I found it here! The host was prompt to respond and was one of the nicest places my husband and have booked on VRBO in a long while. The bed was comfy, plenty of pillows and blankets, a couple of sitting chairs and a cozy couch facing a BIG screen tv, a mini-fridge, a Keriug and plenty of space to sprawl if we wanted. I enjoyed the quietness of the building and surrounding area. There were many options within walking distance to dine at and we loved the unique offerings and ambiance at the cocktail lounge right on the premises. Honestly, look forward to staying again, I found the perfect place!

My husband and I were born in South Africa and moved to the US with our little girl in 2019. We opened the Unicorn Zebra to bring a little piece of the Cape Town experience to downtown Tucson. The business was named by Chloe, our 7 year old (at the time) who was going through a unicorn phase. We personally designed every space and I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Why they chose this property

This beautiful historic building once housed the Citizen Newspaper. Built in 1913, it was once the tallest building in the whole city. Located in the heart of downtown Tucson in a quiet suburb, the location is just off Broadway, walking distance from the street car, convention center, theaters and restaurants. The building reminded us so much of the Cape Dutch structures back home, it felt like home and we decided to transform the space into something that could quit literally comfortably transplant into Cape Town and not seem odd. Tucson has been recognized as one of the world's greatest places by Time Magazine. If you visit the Desert Museum (just a short drive from here) you will experience one of the many reasons why it earned this name.

What makes this property unique

The Unicorn Zebra cocktail lounge anchors the building and is a popular cocktail bar for locals and tourists alike. You won't find higher ceilings and large contemporary bath tubs in a boutique hotel anywhere else in the city. The Unicorn Zebra is truly a unique and impeccably furnished destination in the heart of downtown. This property has 10 uniquely appointed rooms, each with comfortable seating space a mini refrigerator and 75" flat screen television.
